  • great, he is going green by driving around a v8 diesel as transportation.

  • BIODIESEL AT THE UIUC FTW

  • where is fuel free someone made first

  • Twisted!

  • Learn how to speak before you try to make a statement that makes no sense in the first place.

  • ...Unless english wasn't your first language, die in a fire. Please.

But anyway, if you think about it, whoever you paid to dispose of the fryer oil probably wouldn't use it in their car anyway. So, by doing it yourself, your saving money instead of letting it go to waste. So yes, it does make sense.

  • Interesting... it still requires diesel. It is nice to know it has a gallon for gallon equivalence between the two fuels in efficiency. I bet it still needs motor oil to lubricate the engine. (I know there are such things as synthetic blends, but I don't know how many would come from green sources.)

  • this isn't really "green", it just saves you money at the pump.

  • It is green, in the sense that fossil fuel source was not used. The veggie oil is from carbon source that was taken out of the air as CO2 by a plant that performed photosynthesis now instead of millions of yrs ago. That is VERY green. Plus, the veg source is renewable and scrubs CO2 from the air, a good thing. Fossil source of carbon is imbalancing the carbon cycle on earth right now.

  • What I meant was that this isn't really a long term solution. I mean, what would happen if EVERYBODY used vegetable oil to power their cars?

Sure, we can recycle some, but I'm guessing the amount of oil used in the restaurant business is not nearly enough to power all the cars on the road today.

  • You're right in that we don't have enough waste veggie oil from the restaurants but your statement, " this isn't really green " was incorrect. If it is renewable and comes from carbon already in the atmosphere, it is considered green. This qualifies as green. We can use plants for fuel in many ways. This is just one of many. For every molecule of CO2 from this source used for fuel, we don't use fossil source, which is very good.
