This still beats singing over a shitty MIDI rendition of the song with no lyrics. Or a video that says "Karaoke" but is actually the studio version with lyrics superimposed over it.

When this video appears in YouTube's search results, it clearly says right underneath the title that you can hear the vocals faintly and that it was made with Audacity. You don't even have to click the link to read this, it's right there in the search results. It really depends on the song. It only works properly if the main vocals are as close to the middle channel as possible, as this trick leaves the far right and left channels while eliminating what is directly in the center.
