Great movie! It should be transformed into a TV series. It would be way better than Scrubs, Chicago Hope, ER, Grey's Anatomy all together. It would be dramatic, funny, critical, it would have everything.

Though some may be displeased with the story's outcome as crafted by the writer of the screenplay and would have preferred a different ending, for his efforts, Paddy Chayefsky was awarded an Oscar.

And rightly so. The picture is a savage and black comedy - and an allegory. From descent into total insanity and chaos, The Hospital (a metaphor for our modern Western 'civilization') recovers, well at least to its former dysfunctional state, and muddles onward - as we all do. More or less.
