by "hydroplaning" you can increase the speed of your body and board, downside to it is that you must know when to turn your board for the wave or lip. turn on the wrong time and your going to have a mouthful of teeth.

yes but it makes you be much more heavier and you are less agile, and to get more speed you have to stand straight to remove some weight from the board to go faster.

keep trying it all on the timing... think of skim boarding as trying to cross the street with cars going 10-15 Mph. once you find the sweet spot it will come back to you over and over and over.
