Very cool effect. I think it would've been cool as well if you applied a slight animated liquify(or ripple of some sort) modifier to the area where you disappeared/appeared for a few frames. Really nice though.

It's the ink droplets from the Videocopilot evolution pack. I sped it up to make it look more like thick smoke and luma-matted it to color it purple.

You could also add a solid with a fractal noise modifier and mask it out and multiply it over the layer and animate the liquify modifier to make some nice smoke.

I was about to suggest the same thing (Glad I kept reading) What would have been nice is if you added the freeze time effect and let the orange juice stay frozen the "teleported" back to the couch and then let the OJ fall... (In my opinion)

well, if you pay close attention, you'll notice that ben is not only a teleporter, but a magician; because the lanyard doesn't even appear until he arrives at the fridge. we can only deduce that he must have conjured one up in the 3rd dimension
