i think when u do it with free weights ur arms stay on the pads. not positive. give it a try if u have one at ur gym. i happen to like the hammer strength though. i love all of the hammer strength.
I have noticed most machines like this one have a seat that either cannot be raised high enough to get my body all the way over or a bar in the middle that obstructs me from moving further far forward. Preacher curls are really more about the isolation of the upper arm so my opinion is that if your elbows arent all the way on the pad then its ok. If you can find on with a different angle that does allow the elbows to rest on the pads then please let me know if it makes more of a difference

This piece of equipment I LOVE!!! Try 1 Arm using that. Hammer Strenth Rocks!

Much easier to keep elbows on pads and to hit the biceps better when the seat is lowered and you're sitting lower.

how come its so hard to keep ur elbows on the pads? that happens to me everytime i do it. i dont know if thats bad or not. is it?
