so just how and why ?? Never seen or heard of a machine like this! Its huge! I get the kernel cracking part, ive run a self propelled silage harvester with a Kemper header, so how does this work, is it coming from a combine to the roller at the pit?
Or you just put a combine head on a self propelled forage harvester that has a kernel processor and voila you have cob meal, or high moisture corn whichever you prefer
It's called a corn roller. This one has 6 mills on it. Its takes corn kernels and cracks them so that cattle can digest it and so we can pack it like corn silge to make it fermint and not have to build huge silos to store the corn
with the size of the feed yard it wouldn't work. the corn is dumped straight on the ground, rolled and packed into a pit like silage is. this mill can roll 250,000 bushels in 18 hours. so for the feed yard and our company it is better to do it this way, plus we can put 2.5 million bushels in 1 pit. That and the corn is purchased from local farmers, so it can come from a diferent farm every year if the farmer wants more money than the feed yard is paying.
All our company does is pack silage for several feed yards and dairies, and pack hmc at 2 feed yards. We don't have anything to do with what goes on in the fields.
rolling hmc to be packed into a pile the same way as silage. the rolls crack the kernal so cattle can digest it and so that when we put water on it packs because of the starch content. believe it or not this mill can roll a truck load of corn in less than 2 minutes. This is the only 6 mill in existance made by Kan-Roll.
By the way hmc means High Moisture Corn. (should of spelled it out) one more thing. its powered by a CAT 505 hp engine that is mounted on its own trailer the two connect to each other with a large drive shaft.

wudnt it be better if the chopper had a corn cracker in it or is this used to feed cows through a grain system or is it in a stack or pit??
