@mangakan56 How exactly were the fight scenes in the 90s show better? SM took far more abuse in this show. Most of the fights in TAS just consisted of grappling and throwing. Infact in a few episodes of the 90's show SM gets hit once and then he's beat or too weak to carry on fighting. But SM in this show gets punched alot, chucked through buildings, gets slammed against walls or cars etc and yet he still gets up and carries on fighting. A few eps even had his costume getting ripped.
Is it me or does that helicopter pilot sound like one of the gargoyles from Disney's gargoyles, and then when spiderman gets caught in the net, he catches onto a gargoyle (2:29), that looks like one of the gargoyles from that same show?

The beginning of this show is brilliantly written. They do a wonderful job showing the transition from Peter as a dude in a full body suit swinging around the city beating up bad guys to Spider-Man as a superhero fighting super villains.
Really, really outstanding show. Much as with Gargoyles, Greg Weisman and Victor Cook knocked it out of park with this series. It had all the charm, outstanding dialogue, and action of the Ultimate SM comics without all of Brian Bendis's "emo" crap. Still baffles me how Disney could screw them over (again! -i.e. Cancelling then bringing back Gargoyles without it's creators-) simply because they didn't want to share the spotlight with Sony. Well, at least Greg's on Young Justice now.

First Generation of X-Men (1993) is amazing, Conan: The Adventurer is amazing, The Spectacular Spider-Man is amazing. What amazes me the most is that this show is so er... behind the times? un-PC? Watching it, despite the somewhat hokey animation, feels just like watching one of the greats from the 1980's like G.I.Joe & Transformers (gen1). And unlike other shows I used to consider great when I was growing up, like Thundercats, Voltron, & He-Man, these shows are good even after you've grown up.
good points: characters, action, plot, Spidey jokes, surprises, character development, klimax, suspense, badass villians.
bad point: the animation. Seriously, first time I watched the trailer, I didn't want to see this for its cartoonish animation that didn't seem to fit spiderman. Some designs are easy to draw and it looks like its better for little kids.
But that was overshadowed when I saw the first episode and I forgive it for that fail.
Just great... you get home finally after saving the city from a murderous super villain, you get home alive and well... and you get a lecture from your aunt about not getting home to late and such typical 'parental concerns' stuff... XD

@hitsugaya448899 well, its not a big change to the suit exactly. It was believed to be the wrestler or armature suit, but i saw a new pic of spidey in a strange civilian looking uniform. I believe this is the permanent suit for the movie (at least for the first film).
@Slashercon Its actually not taking a different look it's taking the actual suite from the original comic, the only difference from what i've seen is the web shooter.

If this episode is any indication, I'd say that this was a pretty good show. Definitely a cut above most US cartoons that air these days. Unfortunately, like most good TV programs, this one was canceled before it's time. (sigh)

With Spidermans reflexes that ninja shouldn't have been able to hit him and unless that big guy was superhuman, he shouldn't have been able to crush him either. But other than that this episode is great.

I LOVE how they pay homage to the comics! When Spidey brought The Vulture to the ground after disabling Toomes' suit, that same scene was in the Stan Lee/Steve Ditko comic where Spidey fought the Circus of Crime. It's also the issue where Spidey first met Daredevil!
Wow peter himself in this series is actually really charming and funny both as himself and spiderman Peter in the 90's, there was nothing to him he was completely flat and had no character same with mary jane
I don't like the animation but I guess I can get past that. I loved the 90s spiderman more but there were some things about that series I didn't like. For starters he no longer looked like well a geek and two he was way to muscular. Plus he wasn't funny enough.
When I made that comment, I had only seen this episode. Now I have seen the whole series so I can make more of a fair comment. I liked TAS' art style more because it tried to look real and not as loony as this. I also think it had better voice acting and story/character development. This series obviously has better fight scenes, and still manages to tell the story very well. I like both, but I grew up on TAS, so what do you expect.
TAS' s art style didn't help the animation. Prefer this voice-acting because it's not over-the-top like Christopher's but that fault goes to the voice-director. Find this character/story development better. Liz actually does something. All she does in TAS was be MJ's friend and suddenly gain feelings for Harry when he went crazy. I feel Spec's stories tie-in much more.
Even though you have nostalgia I thought this could change that. Lots of people love it though they loved TAS.
bad news is, it's been canceled and will be replaced with Ultimate Spiderman
i personally hate Ultimate Spidey... some of the storeis are okay and the writing is pretty good, but the new character designs/origins (ie. the Venom symbiote is the cure for cancer, Green Goblin is a 10 foot tall mindless monster, Electro is just a bald guy in a coat, etc.) are terrible
Good News: its being made by Paul Dini, who made Batman TAS, so that's reassuring
@RazKaz31 Sorry, but even though Disney bought Marvel (a stupid move; just buying a comic book company won't get boys to think Cinderella's castle is any less ridden with cooties and girly stuff), they don't have the rights to this show. They might put Spiderman in Avengers (since it IS in New York, and pretty much every single Marvel superhero calls the Big Apple his turf), but no more of this show.

This show gets 9/10 points.

@PhillT1988 Anyone who followed the comic would know:
1) in order to get to Doc Ock, Spidey must first get past his arms (no easy task)
2)Vultures rig also boosts his strength and speed
3)Mysterio is often underestimated. His mist dissolves Spidey's web, and his suit is equipped with sonar which jams Spidey's spider-sense.
You are right, he does hold back, but none of them are easy wins, and all three have come real close to finishing our friendly arachnid off.

With Spidermans reflexes that ninja shouldn't have been able to hit him and unless that big guy was superhuman, he shouldn't have been able to crush him either. But other than that this episode is great.

And Fancy Dan is just awesome. As long as he's got other guys to distract Spidey, he can land a few shots in. One on one and its no contest.

Opinions are like @$Holes everyone has one and they ALL stink. Seriously if you grew up as a child watching a cartoon chances are that you're gonna prefer the "original" over its predecessor. Personally I like just about all the incarnations of Spidey, my least favorite is Ultimate Spider-man. Come to think of it because it was the successor to the amazing spider-man. Thus proving my point, though it is still imo.

I think it's cool that they're keeping it close to the original comics, though. That's generally a good sign for any adaptation.

@gmarvelous7: Well, then how is it supposed to be a homage to the comics? Either they follow them literally or they make their own interpretations. One way or another it's always based on the comics, since without we wouldn't have Spidey at all.

I LOVE how they pay homage to the comics! When Spidey brought The Vulture to the ground after disabling Toomes' suit, that same scene was in the Stan Lee/Steve Ditko comic where Spidey fought the Circus of Crime. It's also the issue where Spidey first met Daredevil!

I don't like the animation but I guess I can get past that. I loved the 90s spiderman more but there were some things about that series I didn't like. For starters he no longer looked like well a geek and two he was way to muscular. Plus he wasn't funny enough.

This is the first episode of this series I've watched.
It's pretty good. I like the choreography and cinematography, but I'm not a fan of the way they drew Peter's face.
I don't like the voice actor either, but I guess he was chosen to make Peter sound younger.
I doubt I will like this as much as TAS, but I'll see TAS it goes. TAS was perfect, aside from the lack of a 6th season.

When I made that comment, I had only seen this episode. Now I have seen the whole series so I can make more of a fair comment. I liked TAS' art style more because it tried to look real and not as loony as this. I also think it had better voice acting and story/character development. This series obviously has better fight scenes, and still manages to tell the story very well. I like both, but I grew up on TAS, so what do you expect.

TAS' s art style didn't help the animation. Prefer this voice-acting because it's not over-the-top like Christopher's but that fault goes to the voice-director. Find this character/story development better. Liz actually does something. All she does in TAS was be MJ's friend and suddenly gain feelings for Harry when he went crazy. I feel Spec's stories tie-in much more.
Even though you have nostalgia I thought this could change that. Lots of people love it though they loved TAS.

If I were to rate it, it would be 9/10 and TAS would be 9.5, so it's very close.

bad news is, it's been canceled and will be replaced with Ultimate Spiderman
i personally hate Ultimate Spidey... some of the storeis are okay and the writing is pretty good, but the new character designs/origins (ie. the Venom symbiote is the cure for cancer, Green Goblin is a 10 foot tall mindless monster, Electro is just a bald guy in a coat, etc.) are terrible
Good News: its being made by Paul Dini, who made Batman TAS, so that's reassuring

@RazKaz31 Sorry, but even though Disney bought Marvel (a stupid move; just buying a comic book company won't get boys to think Cinderella's castle is any less ridden with cooties and girly stuff), they don't have the rights to this show. They might put Spiderman in Avengers (since it IS in New York, and pretty much every single Marvel superhero calls the Big Apple his turf), but no more of this show.
