  • Great vid man 5/5 stars. keep 'em coming

  • Lots more to come.

    All the best,

    -Pete

  • real good dude but can i ask what a bugout bag is? is it simaler to a survival tin?

  • Pretty much.. Its a bag that you have ready if "junk" hits the fan.. Its all the basics you will need to survive.

Hope you had a great weekend,

    -Pete

  • Blast match is nice but you still need good tinder. I prefer the magnesium that yo shave. I also shave some before I head out cuz shaving it is a bit of a pain. But it burns so ho that it gets even moist tinder going pretty good. Thanks for showing.

    SurvivalWithBushcraft

  • Great post.. Yes magnesium is very handy.

Hope you had a great weekend,

    -Pete

  • Hey, you should check out this thing called 'Swedish fire-steel'

once you learn how to use it, it outputs small sparks around 400 degrees Fahrenheit

  • Interesting.. I will check that out for sure..

    all the ebst,

    -Pete

  • Coat the coton in Bag Balm instead. It is vaseline based but is also an anitseptic so you have both a fire starter and a first aid item in one. I use a 35mm film can to store mine, small and does not break down like a baggie will over time.

  • If you coat your cotton in Bag Balm instead of petrolium jelly. You have a first aid item and a fire starter in one.

    Jon

  • Sure tip..

    Thanks!

    Pete

  • Great video....but your shelves are leaning and your work bench is sagging.

  • its faster to make them if you heat the jelly to a liquid and did them it will re gel when it cools. also works rely well with dryer lint

nice to see other mostly sane people makeing bug out bags

    keep it up

  • Super post..

    Thanks.

    -Pete

  • I have this in my bugout bag along with 4 different methods of ignition - waterproof matches, butaine lighter, flint, and magnifying glass.

I tested the cotton balls with the flint and it ignited with the first spark and burned for about 5 minutes.

  • Nice.. thanks for the post..

    Very helpful.

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • why would you take vaseline camping with you ....... weird jk

  • OK your not the first to say that.. LOL

    ITs very handy.

    -Pete

  • There is a fire starter that is all one handed use called the Blast Match. It was originally designed for the USAF but was released to the public. Amazon sells it for $30.

  • nice I will have to check that out.

    Thanks for the post.

    -Pete

  • Are those Sure Fine brand matches? I want to make sure I use the EXACT brand, otherwise it won't work.

  • Any matches will work.Hope you had a great weekend,

    -Pete

  • just kidding.

  • Are those Sure Fine matches? I want to make sure I use the exact brand, otherwise it won't burn at all.

  • great tip man

  • Thanks! Lots more to come.

    -Pete

  • Have you tried to start it up with a couple of flint rocks (In case you don't have matches) Is the vaseline flamable or does it just slow down the cotton burn?

Thanks for the vid and thanks for subscribing to mine.

    PHARTATACK

  • I think vaseline on its own is not particularly flammable. I suppose it works the same way your average candle works

  • exactly.. And its great with cotton.

Hope you had a great weekend!

    -Pete

  • Sure flint rocks or striking rods work well too.

The vaseline is flammable but it seems to retard the burn too.

Hope you had a great weekend!

    -Pete

  • What also works great are tampons. Put a few into you B.O.B. along with a tube of petroleum jelly and you're done. Advantage: tampons normally come sealed pretty liquidproof and they don't take up much space.

Second advantage: if you're out and about and your gf has "one of these days" and forgotten to bring some tampons you can make her day ;-)

Oh, and don't blow out the burning, petroleum jelly-soaked cotton. It smells pretty bad.

  • Great idea! Tampons in a survival bag!

haha.. That just sounds wrong but very good idea.

    -Pete

  • I just wish I could be 18 already so I can live on my own.

    I got 2 more years.

  • Thank you so much I did not know that I have been following your video's and have now constructed my own bug out bag keep them coming and thank you aga in.. B42L8

  • Thanks for the great comments. I used to be a hammy N2RLS

I have lots more to come.

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • THANKS FOR THAT GREAT INFO,!!!

  • Im glad you enjoyed it.. Lots more to come soon!

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • An alternative is to bring the cotton balls dry and a tube or two of Vaseline Lip Therapy. Not Chapstick. Vaseline Lip Therapy uses the same active ingredient as petroleum jelly, White Petrolatum. This way you can apply as much as needed. Target sells their brand in the same size small tubes, two for 99 cents. Plus, you can also use it as lip balm.

  • Nice.. I will have to check that out.

    Thanks for the post..

    Have a great night.

    -Pete

  • cool thanks for the tip

  • Im glad you liked it..

    More to come.

    Have a great weekend,

    -Pete

  • How long can you keep them in the Ziploc bag? Do you need to replace them after a while?

  • Great question.. Im not sure!

6 months so far so good.

    -Pete

  • This info is gold. Thank you

  • Im glad you like the video..

    Lots more to come!

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • well, since you are being so positive in seeing that you were the one who originally rn you mouth, to start the discussion, not respecting the original poster of the video... I's still say grow up. I have to apologize to Mixcat, for your arguing. Hopefully, he will accept that. Just remember that you were the original one who did not respecct my knowlege and his posting page.

  • No worries... Just here to share info.

    Enjoy your night/

    -Pete

  • There ya go... WaZ chaw happy? Wah Wah... have some respect for the poster, unless your 12 year old mind cannot handle respect idiot! The poster didn't ask for you to start an argument!

  • and I knew you hasd to control, which is why I said what I said... grow up!

  • you're to predicatble

  • read your posts above. if you don't see it, start suing your school system!

  • But if you need to control the argument, you may have the last word 1990. If it will make you happy!

  • Thanks,

People been lighting things on fire for thousands of years.

    haha.

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • Maitreya has chosen this moment to fulfil His promise to enter the domain of men and to help them on their journey. He is emerging now; His herald, the star-sign of His emergence, is seen worldwide by many and is the signal of His appearance, openly, before men. Using the television resources of today, He will engage on a series of interviews starting in America and including Japan and many other countries.

  • I'm glad that you are brave enough to try something like that. 1000% guarentee, someone is going to try to get something out of you. being ignorant on possibilities gets you everywhere. but this is not the place for you to be arguing. do it on your own postings. have some respect for the current poster!

  • Maybe not, but if someone were to make the Vid a liabilty, yes. it would be his issue. Caution is always the best legal resource, to protect yourself from an ever selfish world, trying to get free cash and power. Any real survivalist should know this stuff. Since the newest tone is "Obama... Hand me my check," which proves this whole point. The selfish banks before and after the bailouts are another. How about all those out of work, not going into business for themselves? Yes, another.

  • Point being... someone iis going to bilk someone. if the poster makes himself outisde of the loop, good for him. That's why you always see "Do not try this at home" and "professional driver" disclaimers. Yes, Youtube videos are under the scope. If one is not careful, copycats will do something stupid... then the poster may be liable, if correct protections are not taken.

  • Ultimately, to say... yes it really IS his problem.

  • No problem, If you can manage to burn your house down in the middle of cement some how and still smart enough to get out have your lawyer call mine.

The thanks I get for trying to be helpful to people.

  • This is super sir :) totally awesome :D

  • Interesting and quite logical. A trifle safer than using a small squirt of WD40, which would smoke.

    A few things though...

Why did you do that on the floor? People copycat. Not good.

    Safety precautions?

Shelf life after mixing the 2?

I also notice that this is not something a real survivalist would do. They don't carry "butt lube" or Vaseline with them on trips. Can you use something else, other than matches or lighter, to light?

Toxicity? Is this toxic to pets, wildlife, etc.?

  • If you would have watch the whole video I was outlining how to build a fire quickly and a nice thing to have in a bugout bag.

If you would like to share some of your own tips, thats fine.. Make a video response I will approve it.

Again all this is to go in a ziplock bag that will keep for years.

    -Pete

  • A friend of mine has a different version of this. She melts down the remaining wax from those fancy candles and dips the cotton balls in that. Does the same thing and it smells good. LOL!

  • nice! thanks for the tip.. I might have to try that out..

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • Simpler way to start a fire. Can of deodrant, stove lighter. Drive the spray through the lighter flame at some twigs (or someone you don't like) and BOOM!

  • And anything you cook will even smell nice too! ;o)~

    Thanks for the post!

    -Pete

  • Wow! That's really useful information! I'll definitely remember this!

  • Thanks.. I will have more to come.

Hope you had a great weekend.

    -Pete

  • FIIIIYYYYAAAAAHHHHH!

  • lol Love your name.. SirCrudNoodles.

    Enjoy your weekend.

    -Pete

  • Thanks! I love magnesium for many reasons.. LOL

Very hot flame. Bright and many uses.. ;o)

    Enjoy!

    -Pete

  • That's a hot tip, especially for wet weather. Have you tried lighting it with the magnesium?

  • That is Cool I will keep this in mind for canping trips instead of arring around gasoline or butain.

  • Thanks for the comment!

    Enjoy your weekend.

    -Pete

  • Everyone should have one of these put together. Thanks for the info!

  • For me the fun of building a fire is in using natural resources around me (and maybe a lighter). I like using the dry moss off trees. But this is great for wet days.

  • I hear ya! That works well too..

Many ways to skin the cat.

    Thanks for the post..

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • Nice.. thanks for the comments.. Im glad you liked it.. More to come!

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • i'm from the high country and i use somthing like it in my emerg. Kit great job thanks

  • What a frigging bummer! Vaseline used as fire starter! Anyone remember women?

  • lol... I will just leave that alone.

    Enjoy,

    -Pete

  • in Alaska we call it the "uh-oh" bag. As in uh-oh the dern boat is sinking where's my uh-oh bag...

  • haha.. That will work too!

Well take care and I hope your boat done sink.

    -Pete

    Take care,

    -Pete

    More to come.

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • Thanks Pete. Great tip.

  • Great survival vid. I'll be picking up some cotton balls soon. Just made a fire last night, but it took alittle while to start, this could have helped. Thanks for the info friend.

    Rob

    Fight the NWO.

  • Thanks Rob,

My friends and I are going to go backpacking and see how we hold up.. I think we have what we need to survive well. This really makes it easy to make a GOOD fire and fast.

    Stamp out that NWO.

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • Hey thats a good idea Pete.

My girlfriend and I were thinking of just setting something up in the backyard to gain experience. We live in the country with some wooded area behind us, so it'll work out great.

Thanks again. And hope it turns out great

    Peace.

  • Good tip...a bag of corn chips works too.

Just remember not to eat them all..!!!

  • Nice.. I will check that out.. YUM..

    Take care,

    -Pete

  • Chapstick works too.

  • I may just try that..

    Thanks,

    -Pete
