A couple years later, a few deployments and after picking up rank they expect me to do the farting. This is ridiculous. I didn't sign up to fart on scared boots.
To be honest it's impossible comparing the 2 armies, especuially as I've never served. The US spends more than anyone else in the world combined, so have the best facilities to train soldiers, however just because you have the biggest army doesn't mean you have the best, the problem is when you have such a huge armmy is that you can't train each person as skillfully.
However the people with natural skills will be picked for the marines. whereas the aussies train in a more persnal way.

To those wanting to join right after high school - I really suggest you go to college so you can go through Officer's school. Enlisted are treated a lot poorer and get a much lower pay for doing near identical jobs. I would say the core difference between duties the officer and enlisted is that officers are expected to lead. Officers do not sit behind desks or blatantly avoid combat (unlike other branches)

To those wanting to join right after high school - I really suggest you go to college so you can go through Officer's school. Enlisted are treated a lot poorer and get a much lower pay for doing near identical jobs. I would say the core difference between duties the officer and enlisted is that officers are expected to lead. Officers do not sit behind desks or blatantly avoid combat (unlike other branches)

over 5 years ago I was contemplating joining the Marines or the Army, and I gotta say the idea of Parris Island, the high physical fitness and marksmanship standards intimidated me to consider the Army, but you know what......one tought of me in those ugly ACUs sealed my decission.
I never regretted a damn thing since. I respect all those who grew a pair and went down to the Island to become Marines, I truly do, that took balls.
