Having been to both places, Maldives has much better marine life and beaches while Seychelles has more to do and the land is more beautiful as it's bigger with forests and good wildlife which the Maldives don't have. At the end of the day it depends on what people want.

For those saying Maldives are spoilt, there are about 2000 islands I think and only less than 200 are inhabited. The rest are untouched.

If you do not like big rocks then we have lots of coral islands with white sandy beaches, very clean, not crowded. We have no jungle in the Seychelles but only forests which are lush with lots of plants, fruits, streams, birds. We may not have a lot of beautiful resorts but we managed to accommodate the Duke and Duchess of CAMBRIDGE. The Seychelles is a unique place. Please read before criticizing. Only a few of the islands are accessible to tourists. Most are uninhabited. Thank you.

I was born a grew up in the Seychelles.Video has shown only the granitic islands of the Seychelles,The coral islands are just as beautiful as the Maldives. EVERY Country in the world has its beauty n something special, perhaps unique. Paradise is not to be found on earth. I have never been to the Maldives.

One cannot compare until you have lived there for sometimes. A Holiday and video are not enough to compare. Politic,economy matter

Actually, if you're looking for paradisiac beaches, like really paradisiac, luxury, relaxation, perfect diving, and amazing scenary then Maldives is the perfect place. If you're looking for sight seeing, beaches with big rocks and going through a jungle to get there, not feeling alone at any beach, seychelles is the place. Maldives is touched by human hands, but it's not contamined by it. I really can't compare both places, they are very different, but IMO Maldives is 1000 steps over Seychelles.

I have been on both locations, and I'd say Seychelles. Much more different stuff to see, more ethereal landscapes, and personally I prefer the lighthearted mix of european and african culture (creole) to the muslim background of the maldives a lot. It's just you usually don't have any contact with the natives on the maldives, on the seychelles you have that a lot..

At the end it's down to your personal preference off course..

Of course, the Seychelles!! They have a better landscape with tropical mountains, nicer beaches with granit rocks, a small beautiful capital, natural wonders, a breathtaking underwater world and much much more. But they are more expensive than the Maledives...

i was in Sun island resort for 2 weeks and it was fun for scubadiving , but the food is lousy and a bottle of coke or water US$5 and it was 5 years ago, hiring a bicycle cost a fortune by the end of the stay could buy a brand new bicycle instead of renting.

Being nominated for natural wonders of the world is subjective & depends on the effort of a country. Unesco dont even support new wonders list because its all about internet voting. No one can use that as a comparison between countries.

Any country is famous for the amount of marketing they do, its accessibility and value for service. Maldives has that.

But you cant use that for comparing the beauty of a country.

i am not from Maldives or Seychelles. maybe u are right.. it dpends on marketting so i asked a guy who visited to both place abt the beauty...He mentioned that he can't compete Maldives with Seychelles coz Maldives is much way better...I guess this can't be said by marketing.. if u feel i am just saying why don't u visit yourself and check it dude..:)

I've been to both already and many times too! Different people will have their opinions depending on what they like doing. I like both places. I like Seychelles more in general for their beaches, sight-seeing, island hopping, lots to do aside lying on the beach. As for Maldives I like it for their fantastic resorts and service but thats all they have. If someone likes Maldives over Seychelles it would be for their resorts. And they never got a chance to visit the coral islands of Seychelles.

both countries are nice but i agree Maldives is much better because i have seen that the Maldivian resorts got a lot of awards than Seychelles in many ways such as the best favourite honeymoon destination in this world. As a matter of fact Maldives has nominated in the list of selecting world 7 wonders for 2011 and still its on that list with some 30 places,. But i couldn't find any such thing abt Seychelles. If u don't blieve me then see the facts yourself by googling...:)

People people people...Seychelles wins it. Maldives consists of coral islands. Seychelles consists of both Granitic and Coral islands (just like those in Maldives). Therefore, Seychelles has it all. Alot of emphasis is just placed on the granitic islands as its a unique formation. And its coral islands are quite a distance and are protected areas so alot of people dont get a chance to visit them. Seychelles also has more activities to do than sitting on the beach.

*Entirely christian(catholic country local people have a more western way of life

*Has been both an English&French colony.Both languages are widely spoken

MALDIVES:

*Predominantly a muslim country&quite restricted

*Smaller islands with limited transportation

*Very vulnerable islands(tsumani 2004)

*Nothing more to do other than beaches

Seychelles being entirely christian and Maldives being entirely Muslim has nothing to do with the beauty or popularity. And u know why Maldives didn't face much destruction by the tsunami while the bigger nations faced severe destruction ? coz the the beautiful coral reefs were there to protect it. and of course both are very nice. But,Maldives is a way better and much famous than Seychelles anyway ..more and more people are visiting Maldives day by day. tc :-)

It is true that the Maldives are more popular.Living in the UK, I have visited both& found the Seychelles culture more similar to western countries. Also, the Maldives/Mauritius are a LOT more cheaper than the Seychelles, hence their popularity! In the Seychelles mass tourism is not encouraged. The reason being the detrimental effect it can have on the environment. There is an annual cap on the number of visitors allowed in the country. For me, this is good, as the islands are truely unspoilt!

I also find this clip, very one sided. It does NOT even attempt to show half the true natural beauty of the Seychelles. But shows a lot more for the Maldives. It has been purposely made to favour the Maldives!

Maldives.The Paradise, beyond every other Paradise!!!..And the Pictures are only a fraction of the beatuty of Maldives too. No one can show the full beauty in just 3 mins ;-) Have a look at more videos. you'll find more white, crystal and sparkling sands and all the shades of blue extending from the shallow lagoons to the deep ocean and the most beautiful underwaters. :-)

Whats wrong with Maldives? My vote is for the Seychelles and not just because my girlfriend is from there :) I can also fly my hangglider in Seychelles (don't thing i could in Maldives?) I know Maldives is good underwater. I plan to spend a lot more time under water in Seychelles when we go back in 2 weeks time :)Its still very nice underwater, but some spots did suffer the coral bleaching of 98 i think it was? around the main island, but there are still some kick ass reefs in seychelles!
