@yourkickinthepants ... it's largely in how you apply it. Done right, wasabi provides a minor little 'kick' with each sushi bite. Slathering it on as you did there is something I do only once or twice in a sitting. Depending on how the wasabi is prepared (we don't get the real stuff in the US), it may have the stunning effect of a real 'kick in the pants', without the unpleasant longterm effects. I don't know how acquired it is or can be. But you would never get there doing it that way.
Weak wasabi!?!?! That burned my whole face up and throat. Well I guess I shouldn't to try strong wasabi:) Maybe it's an aquired tasted.

That was hilarious. I love wasabi, btw, and you did it wrong. You're lucky, you must have gotten weak wasabi.
