@TheTrojan2014 I ended up returning the Torch on day 30. It just wasn't for me. I am a big podcast listener and I found i couldn't get used to the podcast app on the torch, or maybe I am so used to how easy it is to update and sync podcast with itunes. I also got tired of always having to open and close to get to the keyboard. I have a BB Bold for a work phone and prefer it to the torch.
i have the same proble, i'm all about the size, even though i'm a women i like big bulky phones. I like to know i have something that if i accidently drop it's not going to break into many pieces. i have an active 6yr old i can't see getting a softy for a phone. thnax for the review, will see what choose tommorrow .
Thanks for the nice review! I'm on my second (well, the third just came this week) 8703. Had one for 3 years now. in fact, I'm replacing the case and lens of my second one today. Should be fun! Also ordered a new back-up from eBay for $50. You guys nailed it. It's a tank. Plus it's the only keyboard big enough for me to use with my big fingers! Until I found this video I figured I was the last remaining 8703 fan in the world. I'm not. THANKS!!!!
You are DEFINITELY not with the love for the 8700 series, there are lots of us still around. I'm glad you are enjoying this phone, keep us posted on how it's going with it.
I am a verizon customer and ordered an 8703e off of ebay for $50. It should be here in the next day or two. A friend here at work uses the BB Bold and it looks like an amazing phone. I was stuck with the choice of a curve or a storm or the 8703e and I decided to go with the 8703. I don't like touch screens (had an LG Voyager and it constantly came apart on the inside) so hopefully I will like the 8703. Your review was really informative and I really enjoyed it! Thanks!
Well, I have been using it for about 5 days now and I love it! It's my first blackberry, and the learning curve was a little steep... but now I am really enjoying it! And I am also using it as a tethered modem with my laptop and it works great! I definitely love the convenience of getting my e-mail on my phone... it is so nice. I really like this model too, definitely a great first blackberry for me! =)
Thanks for this review, it was EXACTLY what I was looking for. I wasn't too sure the 8830 was a great choice but I played around with it at Telus today and it looks and feels pretty decent and this video reassured me. I've got my eye on a barely used one with a clean ESN on ebay and with further investigation I will probably order it through the night.
Again, thanks very much, please make more reviews, they were very helpful and honest which is what I'm sure many users are looking for. Thanks:)
I just ordered my 8703e to put on my Alltel plan and after reading online about it and watching this vid I'm really excited to get it!! I like my Scoop but it doesn't do everything I want it to and its been crashing lately...
I just ordered a new 8703E from eBay for $89 and I was wondering, because you were saying how it was really tough, is it a durable, hard to damage phone?
its a pretty tough phone. don't need to worry about dropping and damaging your phone minus the scratches from dropping it but things won't pop out like when you would drop the newer blackberry models when the trackball would come out or the battery lid coming off when you drop them
Well I should do an update vid. We added ATT lines because my wanted to get the iPhone so we have 2. Being a bb person, I had to get the Bold and try it out. I have only had it for 3 days but so far this thing is hard to put down. Still have the sprint contract for a couple more months but took off the 8703. I still have it and plan on keeping it if nothing else to just get out and play with every once in a while. I never did have any problem with my 8703.
I'm in a similar situation... I'm with SPRINT as well, and I am currently using the 8703... The problem I'm having with it is that it randomly restarts or resets... The LED turns red and then the BlackBerry just resets and takes an hour to do so... Have you ever encountered the same problem? It has happened 3 times in one day, so now I've just about had it and am thinking about getting the 8830... but like you, I know I'll miss the 8703... Any word on a BOLD for SPRINT??? Peace
i orderd the 8700g from ebay. A new one so i could go back to tmobile and their cheap ass blackberry plans, great. I've had a curve, 8830WE, and storm. If i had to rank in terms of likability it would be curve, storm, 8830WE. But for now, i cant waste money especiall y in these times so i got a new 8700g from ebay unlocked and it will do it for me because their fucking durable and com'n its a blackerry
I have been through the exact same thing. I can tell you now,the curve grew old really fast. The only replacement to the 8700 series is the "bold". I have reverted back to my 8703e after owning every single bb ever made. Since im with verizon,im limited. I might buy an 8830 again because the latest "storm" is not good with me. Ive had 3 8703e's and still have one right now.8703e is a true classic. Im glad see that you think like me,i thought i was crazy for a minute.
I had an 8830 but as you said it really felt dainty and eventually some of the keys stopped working. Always kept it in the case and routinely polished it and blew the dust out but nonetheless I find it to be alot less durable then my previous 8703e. So I ordered an new 8703e from ebay for $89. I can't wait.
you should make mo videos because dis one was real informative. i had an 8703 wif Verizon went back ta Nextel now i'm thinkin i should reactivate mah 8703 or getta 8830. but i'm gunna get mah 8703 reactivated. Good look yo
You did a fine job reviewing, I like real people doing down to earth reviews so yours was good. I never have owned a BB but want to soon and I really like the 8830. I have Sprint, so I'll wait and see how the 8330 Curve is when it comes out this month or next, pretty soon though Sprint is getting it.
The 8830 rules. Yes its less durable than the older model but it does so much more. I watch full length movies on mine, surf the net, text, email, i LOVE telenav GPS...what more could you want?
I know what ur talking about the 8703 is just such a good durable phone like i dropped it on every kind of terrain and its fine....like i like big bulky heavy phones. i dont like the light skinny phones... thats not me....but the 8830 is just very hot sleek and sexy
what phone do you have now

after around 2 years this comparison fits perfectly to the Bold 9000 and 9700. And I really understand and share your opinion!
ResearchInMotion9000 1 year ago
@ResearchInMotion9000 I agree with you totally. I have the 9700 for work but I miss the size of my old 9000. The 9700 almost seems a bit too small.

fruitroundz665 2 years ago
I didn't keep the 8830 too long, the size just never felt right in my hands. The keyboard was okay, it's just the size that I couldn't get used to.
