@DecepticonDevastator They're not robots, they are like cyborgs, no, kinda. Greg Farshtey (the creator) explained it better. Now, the Toa Nuva were completely mechanical until they became soaked in protodermis and actually became Toa Nuva. The Toa Nuva were after the Toa Metru.

@DecepticonDevastator THEY'RE BIO-ORGANIC ORGANISMS! they have a mechanical exo-skeleton with enough hydraulics to keep it balanced and in position when it moves, and on the inside is organic protodermis composing the organs (ie muscular system, cardiovascular system, nuerosystem, endocrine system, but no digestive system) their muscles move the exo skeleton just as if it was your bones...all in all...they are manufactured sapient beings.
