Okay, well, I drive using a modified Hungarian bridge too.
Really, I'm a nobody that has learned some from haflinger and belgian breeders that I'm friends with and have both taught myself, and am now teaching my second horse to drive. This video is of the second horse. She's only two, and I've had some trouble with her along the way. Mostly just trouble with not wanting to walk past scary boogers outside the fence. But I think over all she's doing pretty dang well, even with me.
she looks like she's going fine! If you're only driving for fun, not in shows or traffic where you need to show other people where you're going, then you're fine. Will she go passed the boogers without her bridle? I knew a horse that HATED garbage cans, once they were passed her sight she was fine... until the next one. If you can walk around the arena with her by the creatures with the bridle on to show they they don't kill, she should get over it quickly
Ho do I signal in traffic? well the roads I drive on rarely have traffic but I said "I drive with one hand when I need to, if I'm having to do something with my right hand." So I already answered that. Whether it be drinking a coke, reaching for my whip, motioning to a truck to slowdown, or holding my wifes hand. but then I go back to two hands.
Let it be known that the shows I've gone to in the last 3 or 4 years have almost all been for draft horse, and draft ponies.
I tried searching for driving horses of any kind, fancy quarter horses with a tiny cart, mini horses with the little carts, the little fancy buggies with 4 rubber tires....on youtube and all I saw were people driving two handed, including on your videos.
That's right. I've also stated that she's broken her hand and can't take the stain in one hand anymore and now drives using a modified hungarian bridge. Also as I've said, the only reason it's acceptable is becuase everyone does it. That doesn't mean it's right. There isn't the same knowledge of driving with most poeple. They are horse people that have a horse that happens to drive. They aren't drivers. I've been certified by Equine Canada for 6 years. I teach driving to people.
no offence, but what is "right" meant to mean! When riding or driving so long as you arnt causing the horse trouble then you method is ok isnt it? who says you cant drive with two hands i often do
Your in Canada. We're in the states. Maybe that has something to do with it. Its perfectly acceptable here and Im pretty sure it even says that in the ADS rule book. If I really cared, I would go get it. But I dont feel like wasting my time on someone who thinks they can scold other people who are doing something perfectly fine.
It is PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE what they are doing in this video.. Like the OP said, your even driving two handed.. OOHHH, your doing it all wrong! Uh oh!
in north america the standards for driving are lower than a snakes belly. traditionally single and pairs are shown in one hand in the methods I mentioned. four-in-hand is the split. 1 or 2 hands. a 6 hitch is done in two hands because the lines are too heavy. I do advanced dressage and I can't see saluting the judge with a line in my hand. How do you signal a turn in traffic with a line in each hand?
Hmm, well lets see. Its called putting the lines into ONE HAND to salute the judge. Or putting the lines into ONE HAND to signal. Ive done that in a pattern and gotton first in the reinsmanship classes, one which Muffy Seaton herself judged and was extremly impressed with a 16 year old. So, I think that if I was driving wrong or didnt look good with two hands, I would know by now. But, I dont think thats a problem see how Ive gotton championships at every show.
I drive with one hand when I need to, if I'm having to do something with my right hand. I have never seen anyone show single or teams using one handed driving though. Maybe that's because I've never seen fancy coaches being shown in person though.
They are holding the lines perfectly fine. I see no problem, and any judge Ive talked to prefers two handed over one. How they are holding the lines here is actually prefered in competition.
And I think they can ask for a trot any way they want...
you're holding the lines in seperate hands. driving is traditionally done one handed in one of two acceptbale methods. coachmen or aachenbach. both have the lines in the left hand, the near rein between the thumb and pointer and the far rein between the ring and middle finger with the right hand used as an assister to turn. and slapping the horse on the ass with the lines is NOT how you ask for a trot.
Oops! I meant single handed. My trainer has broke her hand so she can't take the strain in one had, that's why she doesn't show anymore, she can't hold the reins properly.
this looks like the exact pony i have with exact same name

I still don't know why you said that I was driving wrong?

Why are you holding the lines like that? You're not doing dressage, silly! Driving is hold handed with the other hand used and an assister!
thecostumer 4 years ago
This comment doesn't make any sense....
"hold handed"? what is that?
I watched some of your videos and they showed holding the lines the same way. I just didn't have my whip during this video.
