Also, as far as Russian nukes I'd be very surprised if half of them launched since many of their silos have poor environmental systems. Extreme temps and temp changes= unreliable solid rocket use.
Some of this is wrong. There are 4 launch keys per capsule crew member, two members each capsule. I have to question, however, how legal owning these are. Also, the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki pale in comparison to what is possible or even to the largest test bombs used. Though our arsenal isn't as potent as what past tests have yielded, we do have the capability of producing massive yield.
Actually, Mark the expert did our radio interview - AFTER the Pawn Stars show and admitted he got it wrong. In fact I talked to him last week and he says that after all this time his museum is exploding with tourists and fans and that is the number one thing folks ask about and he tells them, "Yes, I got it wrong, the were actually ICBM launch keys." He told me the reason he got it wrong was there is lots of information out on the internet about rocket keys none on ICBM Launch Keys.
I always imagined a much more complex key for such a thing. I guess though that there was so much armed security and secrecy about the location of the missile that it didn't matter anyways.
@rdc1622 Because they are a piece of history. People pay allot of money for historical items. I guess they would pay it because they can afford to. It's kind of like a Rolex, I would never pay over 150 dollars for a watch let alone ten grand and over but there are people out there that will.
idk why the phux the gov. would allow someone to hold something that could be the genocide of America or anywhere else....its got to be just space shuttles and, even if you did own them you would have to put them in the ignition which is probably UP TO THE ASS in security and in a foreign country...its still cool to think about it though
What is the point in buying these keys without the lock to use them on? LOL... stupid auction... Do I have to now go to Russia and buy the launcher too? hahahaha
Just watched the episode. They first thought it was ICBM keys but after their expert examining it. They found, in fact, that it was actually shuttle keys.
@Shikamaru0Boo the keys are used for the same thing, they were made from titanium, the space shuttle ones were equally the same as the ICBM launch keys................still it gives you chills down your spine thinking 2 small keys could end the world
wonder what sucker bought those... glad it wasnt me :)
i wouldnt pay more than $5
