  • Awesome man , and your quads and hammies look great.

  • LIFT!!!.... GOOD LIFT!!

  • If you're deadlifting with strict form, you aren't maxing. Of course he was roundin his back. Duh.

  • in some of these lifts your back was slightly arched about half way up. is it safe to have that little bit of give in your back. i have only been deadlifting for not long i have been told to keep back straight as possible do u feel any pain that isnt muscle related from a lift like this?

  • @jbh00d12 I did not have any pain from this session. My CNS was fried for a week though.

  • @jbh00d12 Sorry to say man, but at max lifts like this it is not entirely necessary to maintain strict thoracic extension. Look up KK deadlift and tell that guy he should keep his back perfectly straight.

  • I LOVE THE ENDING!!!

  • Love after he does 500 he talks shit to the wall....And the hot girl is laughing at his ego

  • @Rhinoroids72 You don't know the feeling you get from this. Moreover, you probably don't have the inner drive for this sport. Don't arrogantly speak about things you truly don't know about.

  • oh my god shes trying to teach a class and hes doing that

  • It might help if you use your legs and not your back.

  • not here to say anything bad but if you try to do the professionally you will have a problem because the ivanko plates are smaller then the ones in most gyms it does make a difference

  • I love how the lady is trying to teach a class or something and hes screaming

  • Great lifts Jay! The 'half lift' comments are laughable, Those people are obviously half sharp! :D

  • Crossfitter or not, that's solid weight for your size. These props I give to you guy. Although I am a huge crossfit fan haha

  • sickkkkkk liffftttt

  • im sure you impressed all those women in the background with you're "manly" scream lol

  • The women were 'miring you

  • where in burlington is this?

  • @ripco5 1423 Graham's Lane.

    Near Brant & Fairview intersection.

  • This video scared me. I was sure he was going to slip a disk on the 500.

Also - you should probably lift it - then lower it again and not just drop it.

But not a bad effort all the same

  • buff ass mofo.

  • SUPER SAIYAN!

  • I know a 16 year old kid that does this! In our football program every body that is a junior or senor does this easy! In high school!

  • @famousvlcm22 Probably the strongest deadlifting football team in the nation. Possibly some national records in there. Get them in power lifting.

  • @jayrhodes Strongest lifing team period! :D haha but for real though. A kid i know does 4 plates. And front squats 3.

  • @famousvlcm22 Bull...........shit; unless you're talking about trap bar deadlift.

  • @RebelWrestler45 What he did the first time.

  • @famousvlcm22 no its pretty common

  • @famousvlcm22 Super duper mega cool story,bro.

  • @darkflame1254 way to be a fag

  • @famousvlcm22 stop talking BS

  • @ichater Nah this is REAL TALK yo.

  • No lie, I missed a lot do to chekcing out chick in background. Does she have a Youtube? I like women more that deadlifts. Good lift though.

  • Who is the girl in the background? She is smokin!

  • Excellent! Amazing lift.

  • HEY WE HAVE THE SAME SOCKS!

  • @ZzDe0 ahahaha wicked. I believe those are Walmart brand specials....

  • @jayrhodes Yes that's correct!

  • Fuckin nice man. Awesome lift

  • strong fucking lift man, of course ur last deadlift was ugly if it isnt ugly it isnt ur max lOl

  • Good lift dude. Be careful when deadlifting heavy, you looked like you were dangerously curving your back towards the end. Long term injuries are NOT nice (I speak from experience)

  • hey. what do you yell at 01:20? i cant fuckin figure it out!!

  • Whos the chick with the blue tshirt? Can you zoom on her please!?

  • Jay, I wouldn'y even bother replying back to the some of these guys. They're saying "half deads" because you're just letting it go at the top, but I bet they dont have an almost 3xbw dead... Or they've never seen some bigass powerlifters deading against alot of band tension either lol.

  • More impressed if he put it back down with grace and saved the over-the-top screaming for a world record attempt

  • thats a one way ticket to snapcity!

  • Crossfit.. The #1 cause of lifting accidents since 2008

  • Hey bro fuck what these online wanna be know it all's. Good shit man, your form was fine. LIke you said, it was for a PR. YOu back rounded slightly, and with that weight how can't it. you aren't even 180 pounds, deadlifting 3x's your weight. I wanna see these "critics" come close. props bro.

  • I bet you're not so tough anymore when you drop the bar on your knees.

  • @kilbob2 ....how is that even possible?

  • @jayrhodes lmao i thought of collegehumor when i saw this

  • @kilbob2 idiot

  • LMAONOBREATHE

  • Cool half deadlift breh

  • How about doing a complete deadlift and not just a half

  • @Hyyylzor I heard putting it down is the hardest part.

  • @jayrhodes So you're saying that there is no benefit from doing a full deadlift?

  • @damolyman

its a 1 rep max not reps so lowering it down means nothing

its about how much weight you can get off the ground simple as that.

  • @damolyman no no no.....of course there is. And it would be how I'd do them now (although I don't deadlift for max very often if at all now) The comments saying no lift are silly though.

  • @jayrhodes Indeed. It is very hard.. at least 2x harder than lifting it up.

  • @Hyyylzor The lift is complete at the top of the movement. The deadlift does not need to be lowered to the ground to complete the movement. Touch and go is only required when performing sets of more than one rep. For a one rep max to count, the weight is dead on the floor, lifted, and the body locked out at the top with the shoulders, hips, knees and ankles lining up. That is a deadlift. How about you give this a shot before you say something else incorrect and so blatantly fucking stupid.

  • Lol at the lady trying to instruct her class at the 500lb lift while you try to set personal records lol.

  • Lower the fucking weight

  • Despite rounding your back at 500, if you're back doesn't really hurt you're doing fine.

Also 3x bw wtf. All the girls mirin

  • Nice PR, but you don't need to be so butthurt.

  • lol crossfit

  • lol the girl at the back.

  • fucking sweet lifting bro, 500 lbs is quite the milestone! and i love the instructor just falling apart because of that monstrous lift

  • this guy is weak. no proper form.

  • what a piece of fuckin garbage.....let the bitches work boy!!!!!!!

  • Wow, that's like almost 3 times your body weight which is really impressive. Even tho there are people who can deadlift with rounded back(I've done it too) it can be making you prone to injury. The most important thing to remember is to not to twitch/jerk the weight up from the ground because that's what really stresses the lower back. But what am I to give advice :P Hoping to reach that 500lbs deadlift some day. Going at about 441lbs. How much can you lift now as it's been a year?

  • Comment removed

  • Impressive dead lift, but the last two weights you really lose back curvature in a bad way. I have to kinda agree with pokellaa, I'm surprised you didn't hurt yourself. I tore my erectors doing exactly that with only about 295 on the bar. Set me back for an entire month of rehab.

  • I'm impressed, just don't screw up your back, shoulders, wrists, and hips like i did. Used to be able to toss around those big square bales around like they were nothing. (+500lbs) problem is the human body isn't made for it.

  • stick to doing proper technique around 300-350...then you will see the weights go up properly.

  • @604parkour I'll stick to those weights for CLEANS. How about I coach you? lol

  • @jayrhodes typical "cross fit cult" attitude

  • @604parkour Not at all. I don't like that "cult" attitude. I make fun of that stuff.....I was a strength & conditioning guy long before I found crossfit, with background in sprints and football. My training now is based on a lot of olympic lifting, and a strength & conditioning approach to competing in crossfit.

My point was that if I can clean over 300#, don't you think based on force development that I could handle slightly over 300-350 on a deadlift?

  • @604parkour

    The faggiest comment on youtube.

  • @Bodorio I see your parents let you use the internet without their supervision.

  • @Bodorio kid, go back to play video games! weight lifting is not for you! 604parkour is absolutely right.

  • @Justme9731

Its not correct, its pants-on-head retarded.

I wouldn't have any powerlifting trophies if I lifted with perfect form every time. In fact, my deadlift would probably be atleast 100kg lighter.

It all comes from jealousy, 604parkour is probably completely talentless strengthwise, and has to insult the form of better lifters.

If you don't push your body, you wont get anywhere. If you can't progress because you want percect form all the time, competing isnt for you.

  • @Justme9731

We're talking about a guy who actually buys the "big cliff" joke here, lol.

  • @604parkour You came across one video from a year ago where I'm clearly overextending myself to hit a PR. No it's not a pretty lift and I probably wouldn't do that again.

I know a little more than you think. I have certs other than CF, and went to University for Kinesiology (some call it Human Kinetics). In my opinion though, the most important is the experience of actually doing and coaching every day and seeing what works.

  • @604parkour 300-350 is 60-70% of this PR man. I don't think you should be giving out any advice until you seek medical advice... Or post some of your own videos =)

  • great job ur started to roll a lil on that 500 hundred though carful other than that good job!

  • to even think a guy of his weight could lift that's is SICK MAN

  • What is your vertical jump? I'm guessing 40 inch + minimum!

  • lol at 1:30

  • It looked like you let a little for slip after 475, but that is very impressive. You could probably crank out even more if your lower back was straighter. Great job!

  • Of course everyone on youtube turns into a personal trainer and wants to critique your form. Personally, I've avoided deadlifts b/c of my bodytype, but it's clear that you know what you're doing. Ignore the haters, but always keep it safe. Great Lifts man, keep em comin

  • worst thing you can do is laugh while this guy is trying to break his PR and break his concentration, come on people so he yelled alittle what is this planet fitness

  • Respect for those heavy weights. Agreeing thought with the others, back isn't looking too good on those heavier lifts, you can see how you loose some of the flex when you begin lifting but I'm sure you're aware :)

  • oh shit dude watch your form actually haha i just defended you in a comment but be careful that was SLOPPY.

  • imeant keep up the good work!!

  • overall thats agood achievement keep out the good work!!! consistency is the key is what i keep reminding my self...

  • thats not proper lifting, his back is killing him know

  • @pokellaa Actually I power cleaned 300lbs today....back to you.

  • @jayrhodes People putting you down are keyboard warriors. You look strong for 168 man. Keep it up.

  • thats right man! tell em! good shit brotha. ill tell you why this vid inspires me, its because you weigh less than i do, im 185 and i can pull 435 x3. I know ill be at 500 soon and i know if i stay consistent and dedicated ill get there. Keep up the good work. The form police should just shut up unless they can post a vid of themselves doing an immaculate looking deadlift

  • @pokellaa common misconception, doing it wrong doesnt mean your hurt, Im 15 and i got 435 today bodyweights 175 and I frankly did it sorta wrong but I'm fine

  • @pokellaa u mad?

  • @6arba9eman listen idiot i said good job, can u not read.. Im all for it I do the same thing if not more weight, what ru talking about ? i noticed how he kinda strained on the first attempt where his back was doing more pulling and simply made a comment..Why r people so sensitive about comments on their videos?Block comments then..Or stop posting videos..Godbless and have a great day!

  • Did anyone else notice the chick in the blue with the nice tits at 1:20?

  • Did anybody else watch the girl in the back when he did the 500 lbs?

  • epic screams

  • the pants did it.

  • I lol'd at the idea of her trying to teach with ur screamin in beast mode, nice job

  • dude i watch this alot and im happy to say i did it too your video inspired me . thank you

  • Awsome i too hit 500 lbs it made me happy today!!!

  • In socks

    Like a BADASS

  • Thats ........ Amazing for his body weight!!!! Damn!!!! Jake good work!

  • The best advice I can give you is to show more of that chick in the background. PLEASE

  • nice impressing the ladys lol

  • Strong lifts, man. I too am a lil guy @ 5'8 150, I used to dead 405 in the 3-5 rep range max, trying to get back to that point as I had stopped DLing due to injuries. As many below pointed out I will also have to recommend breathing out on the way up and not just at the top. You can get a hernia doing that and you don't want that, trust me I have one and it's an annoying injury.

  • @jayrhodes

Lol holding his breath while lifting; Enjoy your hernia, bro!!

  • @hypur Have you ever been instructed to lift heavy weight? Holding breathing and forcefully pressing out against the belt creates lost of internal pressure so that you DON'T sustain an injury. Don't give advice if you can't back it up.

  • @hypur ur a complete moron. enjoy ur blackout

  • @hypur WHile I was EXTREMELY impressed with that life, I couldn't agree more. Holding the breath is a big no no.

  • @itsanameisntit No, it's not. It allows increased internal pressure keeping you more stabilized, thus lowering any chance of injury. Aside from that, explain why all power lifters and olympic lifters do it......

This isn't your local gym's step aerobics my friend.

  • @hypur breathing is not going to prevent you from a hernia its going to stop you from being able to lift that much weight and its also going to put a bigger load on your upper midle back and your going to get an injured. jayrhodes....that was a fucking good deadlift man your an animal hopefully i can do this soon.

  • @foathkent thank you! haha honestly......people expecting some lemaze breathing class and all the sudden 500lbs goes up with a perfectly flat back??

I'll tell you guys why it doesn't look perfect......because it's REALLY fucking heavy.

  • @hypur enjoy being the weakling in the gym loser lol!

  • Comment removed

  • That chick was pretty hot

  • ridiculous strength. respect

  • Nice lift!

  • why did u have to do it in the middle of that class, to show off ?

  • DAAAAHH!!! uhm make sure you erhh...DAAAAAAAHHH!!! *explosion*

  • @tacosamurai9999 hahahhaa :D !!!

  • Nice lift, strong for a little dude. Only thing to troll on is the skins with no shorts look. Only male that can pull that off is Paul Smith. No homo.

  • @fullofgreendust haha I'm cool with that. I forgot shorts that day, I don't normally wear that. In fact I don't think I've worn those skins in a few months.

    And thanks!

  • Hey I'm a bit confused on the grip I heard the people have torn their biceps when dl with the mixed grip. How does that happen?

  • shawty got a nice ass ;)

  • Deadlifting like a boss. Great technique, by the way.

  • as mina pira num fortão

  • Nice but why do you drop the weight on the ground??? any tips on Lift off? for me

  • shit I weigh 170lb and can barely do half that :P

  • At 168 lbs that is pretty nuts mate, a lot of fucking hard training to get to that...

  • It wasn't perfect but hey it's a PR. Good job 500 lbs is your's you own it!

  • now i know how you did it......that girl with the fine ass next to you.

  • chick next to u has dat ass

  • @mkrulic517439 its safer because you don't have a chance of straining yourself trying to set down such heavy weight. And you sound retarded. Weight room safety is the most important thing to understand.

  • 0:10, you can hear his back snap

  • If you can drop it...drop it like It's....heavy!!!

  • DAAAAAAAAAA

  • Beastin it!! I gotta step my game up big time. I weigh 178 but can only get up 340..smh

  • lower the weight back down to the floor. its fucking ignorant to drop it from waist high

  • @mkrulic517439 How is that ignorant?

  • @mkrulic517439 There's no negative to the deadlift, dropping it is just better and safer.

  • @Zaban94 how exactly is it better? and if you are worried about it being safer, ITS SAFER IN THE FUCKING KITCHEN.

  • @mkrulic517439 This has to be the dumbest comment I've ever read on youtube, which believe me, is saying a lot. Are you the gym manager? What do you care? Ever think maybe the floor is designed to take heavy drops like that?

  • those that say dl's are bad for your back....I had serious back problems PRIOR to lifting. To the point I was nervous about going heavy...I just PR'd 435DL day before yesterday (video on my channel) and my doc says my back is in way better shape...why because I train abs hard i train dead's hard i train everything hard stronger body muscles fixed my weak core and in turn given me a better quality of life...

  • @Leezy730 Someone who gets it!!

  • @jayrhodes Hey so I think this was a real good video, I have a question regarding form, when you get to the heavier weights, and you use a belt and I do use a belt, I noticed you were rounding your back on your 500 lift, I was wondering if this is acceptable or if you were just tired, I been taking videos of some of my heavier lifts and its a very small amount of rounding but is this acceptable and will I herniate if I round too much? Cousin says to keep straight as pos all the way through.

  • @fir3share78 Yeah, definitely keep the back as flat as possible. I wasn't tired, its just a lot of weight and couldn't stay straight.

  • @jayrhodes fosho, still other than that nice job.

  • @Leezy730 + if yu use proper form/technique you dont use your back for the majority part of the lift so it shoulsnt be hurting it anyway

  • @Leezy730 Agreed. I have a very similar story. Proper lifting has positively impacted areas of my life that I never could have imagined.

  • @Leezy730 Damn I'm glad I'm not the only one, I'm far from 435 but I got scoliosis and according to the x-rays I have previously gotten I have reversed the progression, no surgery needed, a lot of physical problems can be solved with the power of heavy lifting.

  • @Leezy730 You are 100% correct!! I have a degenerative disk and since iv been deadlifting my back pain has been reduced. 405 is my best.

  • Wonton580 doesn't lift weights at all which is why that comment was made.

  • i want you to feel the AHHHHHHH RRRR...great jay!

  • Haha, pretty awesome lift man. But aren't you a little concerned about the curled lower back? When I do heavy deadlifts my back curl the same way and after watching some Andy Bolton deadlifts I got kinda nervous about it. Think I should try arching my back more throughout the lift, but I'm not sure.

  • Really jealous man. Max I ever did at the end of a workout was like 365. I weighed at 170-175 but at a height of 6'1.

Do you have any tips? I don't know whether my muscles are just too stretched out and not compact enough for my height..what's your height?

  • @albomale If you've got long limbs you might want to try sumo style deadlifts. You'll never pull as much as this guy at that body weight, though. He looks to be around 5'7" - 5'9".

Are you trying to stick around that weight? I'm 5'7" and I can comfortably carry up to around 215 lbs so that should be no problem for you.
