in some of these lifts your back was slightly arched about half way up. is it safe to have that little bit of give in your back. i have only been deadlifting for not long i have been told to keep back straight as possible do u feel any pain that isnt muscle related from a lift like this?
@jbh00d12 Sorry to say man, but at max lifts like this it is not entirely necessary to maintain strict thoracic extension. Look up KK deadlift and tell that guy he should keep his back perfectly straight.
@Rhinoroids72 You don't know the feeling you get from this. Moreover, you probably don't have the inner drive for this sport. Don't arrogantly speak about things you truly don't know about.
not here to say anything bad but if you try to do the professionally you will have a problem because the ivanko plates are smaller then the ones in most gyms it does make a difference
Good lift dude. Be careful when deadlifting heavy, you looked like you were dangerously curving your back towards the end. Long term injuries are NOT nice (I speak from experience)
Jay, I wouldn'y even bother replying back to the some of these guys. They're saying "half deads" because you're just letting it go at the top, but I bet they dont have an almost 3xbw dead... Or they've never seen some bigass powerlifters deading against alot of band tension either lol.
Hey bro fuck what these online wanna be know it all's. Good shit man, your form was fine. LIke you said, it was for a PR. YOu back rounded slightly, and with that weight how can't it. you aren't even 180 pounds, deadlifting 3x's your weight. I wanna see these "critics" come close. props bro.
@damolyman no no no.....of course there is. And it would be how I'd do them now (although I don't deadlift for max very often if at all now) The comments saying no lift are silly though.
@Hyyylzor The lift is complete at the top of the movement. The deadlift does not need to be lowered to the ground to complete the movement. Touch and go is only required when performing sets of more than one rep. For a one rep max to count, the weight is dead on the floor, lifted, and the body locked out at the top with the shoulders, hips, knees and ankles lining up. That is a deadlift. How about you give this a shot before you say something else incorrect and so blatantly fucking stupid.
Wow, that's like almost 3 times your body weight which is really impressive. Even tho there are people who can deadlift with rounded back(I've done it too) it can be making you prone to injury. The most important thing to remember is to not to twitch/jerk the weight up from the ground because that's what really stresses the lower back. But what am I to give advice :P Hoping to reach that 500lbs deadlift some day. Going at about 441lbs. How much can you lift now as it's been a year?
Impressive dead lift, but the last two weights you really lose back curvature in a bad way. I have to kinda agree with pokellaa, I'm surprised you didn't hurt yourself. I tore my erectors doing exactly that with only about 295 on the bar. Set me back for an entire month of rehab.
I'm impressed, just don't screw up your back, shoulders, wrists, and hips like i did. Used to be able to toss around those big square bales around like they were nothing. (+500lbs) problem is the human body isn't made for it.
@604parkour Not at all. I don't like that "cult" attitude. I make fun of that stuff.....I was a strength & conditioning guy long before I found crossfit, with background in sprints and football. My training now is based on a lot of olympic lifting, and a strength & conditioning approach to competing in crossfit.
My point was that if I can clean over 300#, don't you think based on force development that I could handle slightly over 300-350 on a deadlift?
@604parkour You came across one video from a year ago where I'm clearly overextending myself to hit a PR. No it's not a pretty lift and I probably wouldn't do that again.
I know a little more than you think. I have certs other than CF, and went to University for Kinesiology (some call it Human Kinetics). In my opinion though, the most important is the experience of actually doing and coaching every day and seeing what works.
@604parkour 300-350 is 60-70% of this PR man. I don't think you should be giving out any advice until you seek medical advice... Or post some of your own videos =)
It looked like you let a little for slip after 475, but that is very impressive. You could probably crank out even more if your lower back was straighter. Great job!
Of course everyone on youtube turns into a personal trainer and wants to critique your form. Personally, I've avoided deadlifts b/c of my bodytype, but it's clear that you know what you're doing. Ignore the haters, but always keep it safe. Great Lifts man, keep em comin
worst thing you can do is laugh while this guy is trying to break his PR and break his concentration, come on people so he yelled alittle what is this planet fitness
Respect for those heavy weights. Agreeing thought with the others, back isn't looking too good on those heavier lifts, you can see how you loose some of the flex when you begin lifting but I'm sure you're aware :)
thats right man! tell em! good shit brotha. ill tell you why this vid inspires me, its because you weigh less than i do, im 185 and i can pull 435 x3. I know ill be at 500 soon and i know if i stay consistent and dedicated ill get there. Keep up the good work. The form police should just shut up unless they can post a vid of themselves doing an immaculate looking deadlift
@pokellaa common misconception, doing it wrong doesnt mean your hurt, Im 15 and i got 435 today bodyweights 175 and I frankly did it sorta wrong but I'm fine
@6arba9eman listen idiot i said good job, can u not read.. Strong lifts, man. I too am a lil guy @ 5'8 150, I used to dead 405 in the 3-5 rep range max, trying to get back to that point as I had stopped DLing due to injuries. As many below pointed out I will also have to recommend breathing out on the way up and not just at the top. You can get a hernia doing that and you don't want that, trust me I have one and it's an annoying injury.
@hypur Have you ever been instructed to lift heavy weight? Holding breathing and forcefully pressing out against the belt creates lost of internal pressure so that you DON'T sustain an injury. Don't give advice if you can't back it up.
@itsanameisntit No, it's not. It allows increased internal pressure keeping you more stabilized, thus lowering any chance of injury. Aside from that, explain why all power lifters and olympic lifters do it......
This isn't your local gym's step aerobics my friend.
@hypur breathing is not going to prevent you from a hernia its going to stop you from being able to lift that much weight and its also going to put a bigger load on your upper midle back and your going to get an injured. jayrhodes....that was a fucking good deadlift man your an animal hopefully i can do this soon.
@hypur Seems like you haven't tried deadlifting your max. At least it is impossible to me to breath while maxing out in deadlift during the lift. You know that movement which has both dynamic and isometric force like deadlift the pressure in your body is massive. If I remember right measured blood pressures for example were something like 400/300. That screaming and letting air out lowers the pressure for sure.
Nice lift, strong for a little dude. Only thing to troll on is the skins with no shorts look. Only male that can pull that off is Paul Smith. No homo.
@fullofgreendust haha I'm cool with that. I forgot shorts that day, I don't normally wear that. In fact I don't think I've worn those skins in a few months.
@mkrulic517439 its safer because you don't have a chance of straining yourself trying to set down such heavy weight. And you sound retarded. Weight room safety is the most important thing to understand.
@Zaban94 "There's no negative to the deadlift, dropping it is just better and safer."
if there is no negative then what exactly is the risk? if you are really this worried about risk maybe you should wear a helmet everywhere you go. Im just saying be a little more humble w/ your lifts. dropping them screams for attention. he's doing deadlift I dont think he's that concerned about risk.
@mkrulic517439 This has to be the dumbest comment I've ever read on youtube, which believe me, is saying a lot. Are you the gym manager? What do you care? Ever think maybe the floor is designed to take heavy drops like that?
@blinkmefx "This has to be the dumbest comment I've ever read on youtube, which believe me, is saying a lot."
it says you havent been to the political/religious section of youtube.
the only reason is to draw attention to yourself and the lift should be enough. its like a five year old standing in a room full of adults screaming look at me, give me all your attention. Im just saying...
those that say dl's are bad for your back....I had serious back problems PRIOR to lifting. To the point I was nervous about going heavy...I just PR'd 435DL day before yesterday (video on my channel) and my doc says my back is in way better shape...why because I train abs hard i train dead's hard i train everything hard stronger body muscles fixed my weak core and in turn given me a better quality of life...
@jayrhodes Hey so I think this was a real good video, I have a question regarding form, when you get to the heavier weights, and you use a belt and I do use a belt, I noticed you were rounding your back on your 500 lift, I was wondering if this is acceptable or if you were just tired, I been taking videos of some of my heavier lifts and its a very small amount of rounding but is this acceptable and will I herniate if I round too much? Cousin says to keep straight as pos all the way through.
@Leezy730 Damn I'm glad I'm not the only one, I'm far from 435 but I got scoliosis and according to the x-rays I have previously gotten I have reversed the progression, no surgery needed, a lot of physical problems can be solved with the power of heavy lifting.
Haha, pretty awesome lift man. But aren't you a little concerned about the curled lower back? When I do heavy deadlifts my back curl the same way and after watching some Andy Bolton deadlifts I got kinda nervous about it. Think I should try arching my back more throughout the lift, but I'm not sure.
@albomale If you've got long limbs you might want to try sumo style deadlifts. You'll never pull as much as this guy at that body weight, though. He looks to be around 5'7" - 5'9".
Are you trying to stick around that weight? I'm 5'7" and I can comfortably carry up to around 215 lbs so that should be no problem for you.
Awesome man , and your quads and hammies look great.

Nice lift, strong for a little dude. Only thing to troll on is the skins with no shorts look. Only male that can pull that off is Paul Smith. No homo.
fullofgreendust 1 week ago
@fullofgreendust haha I'm cool with that. I forgot shorts that day, I don't normally wear that. In fact I don't think I've worn those skins in a few months.
And thanks!

Im just saying be a little more humble w/ your lifts. dropping them screams for attention. he's doing deadlift I dont think he's that concerned about risk.

lower the weight back down to the floor. its fucking ignorant to drop it from waist high

@mkrulic517439 How is that ignorant?

@Zaban94 how exactly is it better? and if you are worried about it being safer, ITS SAFER IN THE FUCKING KITCHEN.

Im just saying...
mkrulic517439 2 weeks ago
those that say dl's are bad for your back....I had serious back problems PRIOR to lifting. To the point I was nervous about going heavy...I just PR'd 435DL day before yesterday (video on my channel) and my doc says my back is in way better shape...why because I train abs hard i train dead's hard i train everything hard stronger body muscles fixed my weak core and in turn given me a better quality of life...

@Leezy730 Someone who gets it!!
jayrhodes 2 weeks ago 13
@jayrhodes Hey so I think this was a real good video, I have a question regarding form, when you get to the heavier weights, and you use a belt and I do use a belt, I noticed you were rounding your back on your 500 lift, I was wondering if this is acceptable or if you were just tired, I been taking videos of some of my heavier lifts and its a very small amount of rounding but is this acceptable and will I herniate if I round too much? Cousin says to keep straight as pos all the way through.
fir3share78 1 week ago
@fir3share78 Yeah, definitely keep the back as flat as possible. I wasn't tired, its just a lot of weight and couldn't stay straight.
jayrhodes 1 week ago
@jayrhodes fosho, still other than that nice job.
fir3share78 1 week ago
@Leezy730 + if yu use proper form/technique you dont use your back for the majority part of the lift so it shoulsnt be hurting it anyway
Tomzablade1 1 week ago
@Leezy730 Agreed. I have a very similar story. Proper lifting has positively impacted areas of my life that I never could have imagined.
ConradoThePirate 1 week ago
@Leezy730 Damn I'm glad I'm not the only one, I'm far from 435 but I got scoliosis and according to the x-rays I have previously gotten I have reversed the progression, no surgery needed, a lot of physical problems can be solved with the power of heavy lifting.
fir3share78 1 week ago
@Leezy730 You are 100% correct!! I have a degenerative disk and since iv been deadlifting my back pain has been reduced. 405 is my best.

ThaLime 2 weeks ago
Really jealous man. Max I ever did at the end of a workout was like 365. I weighed at 170-175 but at a height of 6'1.
Do you have any tips? I don't know whether my muscles are just too stretched out and not compact enough for my height..what's your height?
albomale 2 weeks ago
@albomale If you've got long limbs you might want to try sumo style deadlifts. You'll never pull as much as this guy at that body weight, though. He looks to be around 5'7" - 5'9".
Are you trying to stick around that weight? I'm 5'7" and I can comfortably carry up to around 215 lbs so that should be no problem for you.
