I appreciated this video.  It is good advice. Minnows can be used for bait to catch larger fish. If you have enough minnows you can make fish soup/broth. Why is everyone so critical in here. Lighten up, I don't think anyone is trying to win an oscar here, just get out good info.

minoes are useful. if you manage to catch enough you can simply make a pitfall trap and lay them in the center and scavengers will smell it and fall in. ive done this with a cyote and a dead catfish.

it wouldn't be easy, but it can be done. If you get a small, thin stick you can poke a hole in the plastic. Just do this all the way around, with the holes as close together as possible, and then you can tear the top off.

Or if you have a way to make a fire you can use a small hot stick to melt the plastic in a similar way.

You don't have to use any bait. The fish will swim in there anyway due to the way they follow the surface of the water and the shoreline, and try to hide in and under things.

Excellent demonstration. You need to punch a few holes in the side to allow you to sink it to the bottom. A small rock inside will overcome the buoyancy of the plastic but not an air bubble.

you could add some rocks inside that will anchor it down too. then you could place it in deeper under the water. if you were in a situation that you didnt want to get wet you could tie some cordage to the trap toss it out and pull it in.

It is an Ontario RAT folder. EXCELLENT knife. They are no longer in production, but you can still find them brand new on ebay. They are in the $30 range. INSANE value. You should definitely get one.

Well this is for wilderness survival, when you have to use whatever materials are available. You may not be able to live off JUST minnows, but everything helps. And you can eat them while you build larger traps and snares, or even use them to bait your other traps and snares.

This trap is so easy to build and use that its worth knowing about.

well there are different ways to make field expedient hooks out of bone, wood, etc. But you can just eat the minnow directly too instead of using them for bait.

Or use the fish to bait dead falls and snares and other traps on land to catch dogs, raccoons, cats, small carnivores etc.

well it sits on the bottom full of water, it doesn't float. It can drift if there is waves/current/moving water, which is why I mention that you can anchor it with a stick or a string

Some small bits of ham(rancid is better) and you'll get crayfish. Bread bits and you'll get minnows. If you open or cut the bottle neck open more you can use wet cat food and catch a bullhead(need to secure pieces together for this).

I'm a hunter so I stuudy up on stuff like this and practice with things related to survival. These actually work well. If you scrap the funnel with your knife and cut the hole slight bigger and bait it with some sort of meat it will catch crawdads. Its hard for them to get up if the plastics smooth, so scrap it.

you could also place some smaller rocks in the bottom to help weigh is down and stop it from rolling in waves, as well a piece of cordage around two long rocks placed on either side with the cord across the top would be sufficient in holding it in place. Also, many smaller fish will swim up current as smaller food sources will flow with the down current, mind you they are also a food source to larger fish so keeping a minnow or two to use as bait or live bait for a similar deeper water trap.

If you want results, you bait it. Also poke drain holes into the bottom, it helps sink it, and lets it drain when you take it out.

Here in Greece we use it as a trap for insects. We pour a little orange juice in the bottom of the bottle. Insects enter through the small hole but then they can not go out!!! That's pretty good if the insects bother you when you went camping!!!

You don't have to bait it. If it is right under the surface they just swim in and can't find their way back out.

Bait may help entice them in though. Something like a small piece of meat or leftover animal guts would probably work.
