As for the echo pedal, I got the Strymon ElCapistan and really like it ...it has a preamp boost modelled after the echoplex. One question - how do you get that drone chime thing going in the background ...is that the echoplex?

It's an old MXR 1500 rack unit. You can approximate the effect with something as simple as a line 6 DL4, though.

The Eventide Timefactor does that as well, a little pricey but it has multiple functions so it's worth the money!
