Open the Volume Control Mixer, and set your recording source to "Stereo Mix."
Hit record in SongSmith, then use whatever media player/wave editor you normally do to play the isolated vocal track.
It's a bit of a bitch to get the timing spot on, but as far as I can tell, that's the only way to do it, as Songsmith is intended for people who don't know anything about computers and wouldn't understand the concept of importing previously recorded audio. I think.
how come this one's different from the other microsoft songsmith version of this song. im not familiar with the program. did you choose a different style?
Rivers is like a pedestrian trying to cross the street, and the horn section is like a procession of cars who keep honking at him to get out of the way. Two completely different worlds.

If anybody's wondering why it's so off key, ask SongSmith.
I turned the "happy" and "jazzy" sliders all the way up, and this is what happened. Haha.
colonelSTIZZEVE 3 years ago
Also I had it change chords as often as it possibly could.
I was hoping for something like Coltrane's "Giant Steps" but instead this happened.
colonelSTIZZEVE 3 years ago
Haha yeah I was just thinking someone should do a songsmith with Coltrane's solo and see what happens...

How do you extract the vocal track to use with songsmith?
11111lololol11111 3 years ago
I got it from a multitrack ogg file from XeroTheory's old blog...it's a Rock Band rip, I believe. His blog was taken down though, I think.
Check out the Nine Inch Nails forums (Echoing the Sound), that's where I got the original link.

If you get really bored, I'd like to hear the results of throwing Big Country's "In A Big Country" at SongSmith.

Oh my god...is it supposed to sound so off key? Seriously, I've heard middle school bands sound better than this!

Weezer, as reinterpreted by your high school's jazz band.
