Richard Chamberlain is the "King of the Miniseries" because the BIg Three networks turned to him again and again to carry their biggest-budget, highest-prestige, epic-length original movies on his charm and intelligence. They don't make them like this anymore but this is what people wanted back then.
The role of Bourne needs an older actor than Damon's appearance (he always looks boyish) so Chamberlain is not unsuitable here. It seems a very accurate portrayal of the book's storyline.
yes- i see your point, but it's feasible that Matt Damon could pull it off- a person like Jason Bourne would typically have more than a few years worth of military experience in Special Forces- by the time he became a black ops agent for the CIA- he would be at least in his early 30's.
I read the books and I have to say, the movie followed the book quite closely, except for one small detail: Chamberlain was not Bourne! Matt Damon looks and acts more like Ludlums character then Chamberlain. Chamberlain was too good looking and too suave, where as Borne should have been a bit plainer. Damon has that "lost" look, and the "thousand yard stare" that was so evident in the books. But I liked both movies just the same.
The actor is Richard Chamberlain. Great actor. And for its time, this is great. Damon is more boy than man, which makes his Bourne films, as entertaining as they are, slightly less believable in my view.
A gay Jason Bourne...... I doubt that.

I disagree Damon is a lot younger but looking at Richard Chaimberlain here he couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag.
Damon althogh young has the intensity of a man on the edge Chaimberlain should jump off the edge.

the acting is crap, although from what I can tell this version is more true to the whole carlos/cain plot in the first novel.

A mix of the real story and the new bourne films would be the perfect solution.

Wow, this seriously follows the book a heck of a lot closer than the more recent movie, but I do love the 2002 movie.
It's really accurate, except that they call him Cain in most of the book.
