yeah that's something- I think I've seen him do it a few times live here are there- but I actually like the sound of the alternate picked arpeggios (just before; 6:35-6:40) better than the sweeps~

In my opinion you can't say whose the best guitarist...all the guitarists you've listed are great. The only thing you can say is which guitarist you like most and thats different for anyone. I love Steve Morse style of playing most but everyones taste is different!!
