I'd recognise those red hooks sailing by anywhere - This is the drop-dead sexy tank with the fleet of black bars and the big ol' flagtail semaprochilodus, right?
I didn't realise there were gibbiceps about, and find it interesting to see that there is more than one in there - I've never had much luck with getting that species to socialise with others of the same species.
But then, I've never bought a gang of them as young at the same time - maybe that's the key to it?
we had one around that big, but it started to attack the other fish, so we let it out in a nearby park's lake. on dec.25th 2008, they renewed the water, so they took out all the water. we found him dead. ;(
Really? And how do they catch them? A mid water chase??? I have my 10 inch with neons. Until recently, I had slow moving bumblebees as well. By the way, I have 5 large plecos in there.
I believe he is a Glyptoperichthys gibbiceps (Leopard sailfin) species. I have three of them the largest being 9 or 10 inches in length. The eat pretty much everything and anything
@2footfish When you get a pleco this size don't even think of putting octocinclus catfish with them because you will waste 5 bucks and it will be a tasty dinner for it.
mine grew to 13" i had to get rid of it because it was getting too big for the tank :( i had to get another small one and watch it grow up again -.-

Thanks for the comment. Yeah, the gibbiceps can get a bit cranky once and a while.

You could easily house 6 or so but 2 or 3 is probably best.

how long does it take for a pleco to grow that big?
SomeThingGoneWrong1 2 years ago
Space and lots o' food. Some varieties grow larger than others. Try looking up specific species online.
I'm noticing a video reference to the right that is of a pleco 19 inches long. I'd ask him!!!

Plecos have no ability to "eat" a fish. They will only suck on a dead one.
