@TheBhoyJoe I'm not sure I agree that it is an 'inferior' sound. After all a sound is a sound and one sound cannot be inferior to another. I do agree it is a different sound though to Stone Roses. I do love Led Zep and '70's rock so maybe that's why I love this sound.
i don't understand why the Roses get slated just cos Second Coming doesn't sound like their first album. That is what I liked about the Roses. Like REM, they weren't about one sound.
@mousehead2000 I hear what you're saying but, I think that the reason why they get slated is because their first album brought an original sound. Their second is far from original...it sounds like Led Zep etc. Also, it is an inferior sound and album, as most people would agree. Still decent but a rather large let down considering the time it took and the departure they took toward guitar centred blues rock.
"The more i miss the good times' baby.. let it roll again "'.. quality fkn tune, been playing it all day, ive fell in love with this album all over again...every song, is pure class, nothing will ever fault their debut, for me but , this comes bloody close, .. lovin it..... play it loud, never wanted a reunion, but to hear this live... yeah dream on.. anyway roll on june, brownie, manchester.. got replay this again.... GOOD TIMES BABY......
Yeah Second Coming is tops. As good as the first album in terms of vibe and groove. They should've dropped How do you sleep and this track, and put Can'See Me in instead. This song is the most un-Stone Roses song they ever recorded. Interesting to see Reni play differently, with some serious kick-drum action as usual, and Mani tucked in, but Squire was off on his Lynyrd Skynyrd trip with this one.
The most under-rated album ever. Fuck the critics, they were totally wrong, this album is just different, and it is as good as the first one ! A masterpiece, one of the best albums of the 90's !
@dionycos88 I agree it's a criminally underrated album. But I have to disagree on one point it's definatley not a patch on the 1st album and not even close to there B-sides like Some things Burning, Where Angels Play or tracks like Elephant Stone/Fools Gold/What The World/One Love in my opinion.
great fucking band, decent fucking song, good fucking album.....sorry but altho this album puts many bands best efforts to shame it is nowhere near in the same league as the first....nowhere near it
The first roses album was as groundbreaking as when the Beatles went into the studio, stopped pissing around with pop & made Sgt Peppers, was as groundbreaking as the pistols, the smiths, it was that important in modern music. They were then held back for 2+ years by contractual obligation. Then they released the second coming. Think how good they could have been if the wankers in suits hadn't held them back. IMHO they made 2 of the greatest albums ever, just think how much more they might've..
groundbreaking - nothing groundbreaking about this album. The first one was though I think. Though it hurts me to admit that yes, these bands you cited are a different category in terms of inventing music. But the music is just Amazing - This GUITAR!!
... And I hate them for splitting up like this ...
Really like Ians vocal on this, they're aggresive off fuck near the end. As for Second coming i didnt like it at first but for me it is the biggest grower album out. Like all the songs on it although Straight to the man is a bit shit.
hank couldn't agree more, if I was forced I'd say tightrope or sugar spun sister, but there are far too many classics to choose one and single it out.
Second Coming is one of the most underrated albums ever. Yes, it's not a patch on their debut but it's still a classic.
As for Good Times, well this song is the most underrated Roses song there is. The gentle intro which suddenly breaks into life, the choruses and bridge and that fantastic solo at the end.
@VCK9009 Having heard this LP/CD a gazillion times, I would have to say that it is as good (albeit different as their debut. All educated people agree on that.
Wow... I got into the Roses about a year ago, when I bought their first album. I then read all those horrible reviews of Second Coming... When I got the album, I was shocked. I thought it was fantastic! I still do. Those of you that hated it back then - please... the album deserves another listen.
it was'nt much of a second coming because it's a completely different type of music from the first one and nowhere near as good. unless your a blues fan.

Hopefully the Roses will get back together and do a few more albums.
No reason why not, and they still have all the talent in the world.
Led Zeppelin were together from 68 to 80, Roses from 83 to 95.
Zeppelin only ended with death of Bonham.
No excuse for Roses, as Reni never died, he just walked away.

Dude, you can like the Stone Roses all you want, but comparing their "groundbreakingness" to The Beatles, The Sex Pistols, or The Smiths is retarded.
