  • (17 de junio 1.882 - 1.971).. :)

  • @agrilledfish. You're right. It's bar 9 of the Trio section, clearly written C# but here played C natural -- at least, according to the score in the youtube version played (correctly) by Michel Beroff. Could be a mistake, or perhaps at this point the pianist was slipping in a cheeky signal of their personal preference for natural spring water over the sharp citrus-based fruit drinks, such as Hi-C, favoured by Stravinsky. We may never know.

  • @SailorVVV. Oedipus RESQ, Pepsiphone ... the list goes on.

  • I was gonna flag that joke as inappropriate. In poor "taste". Lol.

  • Stravinsky wrote this piece after consuming a can of the carbonated soft drink "Tango". Other similarly inspired works include "The Sprite of Spring" and "Dumbarton Cokes".

  • @fremsley001 is that a joke

  • @fremsley001

oh wow... that's horrid!! But you made me laugh :)

  • enjoyable, ecclectic, well presented. the C issue was most probably a mistake.

  • I heard it, and I reckon the C natural is a mistake. My two cents. Overall, a most enjoyable performance though.

  • we play this in my youth orchestra..! :)

  • This sounds like the performance by Michel Beroff.

  • too fast..

  • @0sweeterthanyou0 it's a tango..

  • now I wanna write a tango

  • Who made that picture at 0:07?

  • i just saw the new Igor stravinsky and coco chanel movie and i was wondering does anyone know the names to the pieces played in the movie?

  • Great performance!!! Pity, you don't know the name of the pianist...Thank you for posting!

  • my grandma plays this x)

    yea, she rocks

  • thank you for this music!

  • At 1:58 the pianist plays a C natural instead of a C sharp, I wonder if it's a mistake or if he had a different version of the score?

  • @agrilledfish

    ...

I'm not sure I hear what you're talking about. It sounds in key to me, but I don't have the score, so you may be right...

  • @MothmanCometh

It's a pretty subtle difference, the C sharp just makes it a bit crunchier. I wouldn't have noticed at all except I learned the piece recently. You can see and hear the C sharp in question in this video: watch?v=isCt1YqZiY4

Around 2:06, it's the top note of the third accented chord in the bottom right measure. (The C sharp is in the key signature)

Anyway, mistake or not, I think this is a fine interpretation of the piece. I used it for reference when I was learning to play it. Thanks for uploading it! Who is the pianist? I think you should include them in the credits.

  • @agrilledfish hello, i have the 2 pianos score arrangment and it's c natural, just for the history

  • @agrilledfish I used to play this and although I don't have the music anymore it sounds wrong to me!

  • @agrilledfish

The Mercury edition shows a c natural in both measures 39 and 40. Is this the measure you are talking about?

  • @agrilledfish since it sounds like it *could* be right - but isn't - I would guess the pianist learned the wrong note. We must always be striving to avoid such learned mistakes.

  • this is not a really tango, this has the essence of european tango with the view of stravinsky.this is kind a joke on european tango, but the real tango is from argentina, thanks.

  • Wonderful piece

  • "Bach on the wrong notes" great quote description of stravinsky

  • Please, who's the pianist? However, a magnificent tango!

  • Stravinsky was a genius. My favorite instrumental composer.

  • I love Stravinsky. Brilliant piece. I've never heard this one. I have a feeling that Astor Piazzola heard it a long time ago. I know Astor is Argentenian but he must have listened to this anyway. Thanks for posting this and broadening my horizons.

  • Perfect! Amazing!

  • I could listen to this music 1000 times without being bored !

  • @lapinot21 that's why i love Stavinsky's music . Unlike many other composers you never never what's going to happen next.

  • Y eso que no conoció al polaco Goyeneche

  • Amazing!

  • 1:15 Why he got arrested?

  • He was arrested for "tampering with public property." His crime? He rearranged the star-spangled banner and played it in Boston.

Gotta love that freedom of speech they're always talking about.

  • He also brilliantly arranged "happy birthday to you" but I can´t find it anywhere now. Does anyone know where this little gem is?

  • @mrmolinodelahoz

    Wow, that's news to me.

  • @MothmanCometh i want to hear happy birthday to you, where is it?!

  • he wrote it for pierre monteux

  • i had it on sony cd...it has title "greeting prelude"

  • @MothmanCometh haha! word

  • really? :-0

  • @Sikisija He was never arrested. He just got warned by the local police in Boston.

  • @devlin20011

lol Yeah, it looks like all they did was give a him good talking-to.

  • As much as I hate tangos, I love this sarcastic and ironic version by Stravinski who also smelled the cheap perfume in Buens Aires danse halls.

  • The question is, do you love this piece in itself or because you hate tango? I liked La plus que lent by debussy long before I knew it was ironic.

  • Comment removed

  • Not sure I agree with you that the best music is ironic. I wouldn't consider Bach as ironic.

  • Comment removed

  • Ha ha, Your bullshit is wasted in here. I refer you back to what you said earlier: "Without irony most of music would dissappear". That would be to say MOST of Bach's music is ironic. Do you even know what irony means?

  • Comment removed

  • I'll take that as a no.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm not disputing what you say. I think I can learn something from you. In what way are Bach's recitatives ironic? Mr Irony.

  • Your idea of dissonance may be different to the next person. What do you mean by "unpredictable movements"?

  • Please listen to Stravinski¨s

    Happy Birthday to You.

If that doesn´t do it, nothing will.

It can be found on YT.

  • Excuse me if I'm like a dog with a bone when it comes to Bach, but I do believe you are talking through your arse.

  • Comment removed

  • You're right. I'm humble that way. Unlike you, I realise there is much to learn. I don't bluff.

  • I said bluff, not fool, grandpa. There is a subtle difference.

  • What are you talking about? I never said that word before in my life up until two hours ago.

  • Back in Bach's time, people didn't need to be ironic because everyone said what they meant and an offensive person could be challenged to a duel. :)

  • John, I wonder if you are putting me on?

Or you are really that ignorant and educated. Read Moliere, Racine, Voltaire, shakespeare. They all said very clever and witty things and they didn´t end up dueling because they weren´t so stupid to react that way. John, find yourself some educated friends and start reading and learning how to think.

This is all a bad bluff, without humor or unfathomable stupidity. Too many Hollywood movies I suppose.

I wish you well in your search.

  • Does that mean you're declining my challenge of a duel?

  • Great performance. Who is playing?

  • I love this piece!
