@blahblop123: This Porsche is definitely lighter. ZR-1s weigh roughly 3400lbs. You have to also take into consideration that this is a manual vs. a PDK gear box. That PDK gear box shift without loss at all in acceleration. I say the way the vette pulled in the second race is pretty accurate.
@V8Supercar1 the porsche with the manual is 3450, with the pdk its 3520.. the zr1 is 3340 its almost 200lbs heavier than the zr1, its got 140 less bhp, and it has more drivetrain loss thanks to the 4wd...140+ whp is ALOT... the porsche has no right to be anywhere near the zr1 no matter how quick/seamless the gear change is... 0.0001s gearchanges CANNOT compensate for 140+ whp and almost 200lbs... the pdk is good but not THAT good, THATS witchcraft.. something is clearly wrong

@IDontHateOnCars GM told me GM motors are being built in Mexico. GM shut down about a dozen factories in Michigan since around 2005. And I think they currently have 3 or 4 facilities in Mexico. Last I heard (about 5 years ago) the LS7 were going to be built in GM's Performance Build Center in Wixom, Michigan; and that they are all hand built. Don't know if thats changed. I can tell you my 2008 HHR says "MFG by General Motors de Mexico" on the VIN badge. Same as Escalades and many other GMs

A PDK has a sequential manual gearbox. It shifts millisecond faster than a regular conventional manual. No matter how you power shift.
It uses a double clutch which gives it faster acceleration. Porsche website says the standard manual 6 speed transmission gets the turbo to 60 mph in 3.7 sec. The same car with the pdk 7 speed transmission gets the car for 0-60 in 3.3 seconds. The older porsche gets to 60 in 3.9 seconds.

The primary difference is that PDK is not really a true 'automatic' transmission. What it is, is a dual-clutch transmission that's electro-hydraulically actuated that has manual and automatic modes. It's the same type of transmission that comes in the GT-R, 458 Italia, BMW DCT M3, Audi DSG, Veyron, and McLaren MP4-12C.
Benefits over a manual are all of the above, plus no loss of boost between shifts, more consistent shifting, and no fear of mechanical over-rev.

Plus, the clutches on the C6 are notoriously tight, thus taking more effort to engage.

Who always wins lemans? Porche and Chevy. Both are great cars. Porche had a good first run but the ZR1 pulled him good then on. That being said the ZR1 has been out for a while now. It's a performance benchmark to strive for. So is the Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR. Now if you want to mod these cars the Vette has a ton of options in the aftermarket dept. @blahblop123: This Porsche is definitely lighter. ZR-1s weigh roughly 3400lbs. You have to also take into consideration that this is a manual vs. a PDK gear box. That PDK gear box shift without loss at all in acceleration. I say the way the vette pulled in the second race is pretty accurate.

@V8Supercar1 the porsche with the manual is 3450, with the pdk its 3520.. the zr1 is 3340 its almost 200lbs heavier than the zr1, its got 140 less bhp, and it has more drivetrain loss thanks to the 4wd...140+ whp is ALOT... the porsche has no right to be anywhere near the zr1 no matter how quick/seamless the gear change is... 0.0001s gearchanges CANNOT compensate for 140+ whp and almost 200lbs... the pdk is good but not THAT good, THATS witchcraft.. something is clearly wrong

@V8Supercar1 true, on the track is where it makes the most of its super wide tyres, super grippy tyres and light weight ... in a drag race, its lacking.. it wasn't even from 0mph.. it was from 50mph .. 2nd gear pulls @ 50mph in a zr1 produces no wheelspin as you saw. so that only makes 4wd at a disadvantage with its drivetrain loss... i still think the zr1 underperformed here... on the track it would be a different story though.. thats a fact

Last I heard (about 5 years ago) the LS7 were going to be built in GM's Performance Build Center in Wixom, Michigan; and that they are all hand built. Don't know if thats changed. I can tell you my 2008 HHR says "MFG by General Motors de Mexico" on the VIN badge. Same as Escalades and many other GMs

Yes a 640 horse porsche would make it a fare race if the Porsche made it at the crankshaft. If it made 530 horse at the wheels it would probably be dead even fender to fender then it would come down to the aerodynamics , then weight, the auto vs manual trans then which one you would rather buy.

A PDK has a sequential manual gearbox. It shifts millisecond faster than a regular conventional manual. No matter how you power shift.
It uses a double clutch which gives it faster acceleration. Porsche website says the standard manual 6 speed transmission gets the turbo to 60 mph in 3.7 sec. The same car with the pdk 7 speed transmission gets the car for 0-60 in 3.3 seconds. The older porsche gets to 60 in 3.9 seconds.

The primary difference is that PDK is not really a true 'automatic' transmission. What it is, is a dual-clutch transmission that's electro-hydraulically actuated that has manual and automatic modes. It's the same type of transmission that comes in the GT-R, 458 Italia, BMW DCT M3, Audi DSG, Veyron, and McLaren MP4-12C.
Benefits over a manual are all of the above, plus no loss of boost between shifts, more consistent shifting, and no fear of mechanical over-rev.
