@GooglFascists please read history properly. British did built railroads, waterworks but that was to ensure they can rule the vast country and to make Indians pay taxes. Read about the British Govt response to femines and about how the Indian silk industry was destroyed as British govt reduced India as only as a source of raw material. British govt 'divide and rule' policy created separate electorates for muslims and hindus and splited bengal state which became divided countries.

about your argument that British lost interest just after war...then you should be knowing that signs of Gandhi in India can be traced from way back from champaran satyagrih(1918-1919) from that time you can see the British shaking..

@piccashu Your first information is wrong. Not all Nobel peace prize winners are called children of Gandhi.

And the term does not come from Nobel committee, but comes from time magazine.

About your second opinion: Gandhi's contribution was more for "Social struggle" than freedom struggle. He never wanted Free India, but a quasi-governmental(untill 1942). Gandhi was a great Man, a great leader, but he was a man.(With lots of mistakes.)

Hero's were never perfect, nor was gandhi.

Gandhi was not talking about independence before 1942 (QUIT INDIA) because India was not prepared for that....

This Dandi March was really a historic event...!!! He covered 142 miles walking with his 78 chosen Followers to Sea coast of Gujrat & reaching dere , he Violated the Salt Laws by producing salt from sea water....!!!

Pls note that Bhagat Singh chose himself to be a model in martyrdom. He didnt try to kill anybody or escape during and after the parliament bombing. And believing that Gandhi cold have stopped his hanging is absurd. The British wouldn't have spared him at any cost after such an offence. You might not approve Gandhi's ways, but his ways did save a lot of lifes by avoiding a bloody war for independence.
