@tm601 the pin moving lots basically means he is feeling; emotions trigger changes in heartrate, etc which the machine reacts to and "scribbles". Then when the pin stops and the machine gives out a continuous beep, it means there is nothing for the machine to register, therefore there is no emotion; he has switched it off to focus on his next actions.

Actually the leader himself is a person capable of feeling.

But, since he is the leader, he is not one that is capable of catching the resistance.

So he creates a man who will take his place and do it for it.

Basically that man is John Preston, except the problem is that he goes and truly rebels at the end and goes and kills everyone.

If he hadn't been like not without incident, he would probably have been given another chance, by just making him take his drugs and stuff again.
