Whatvdo you donwith the end of the antenna wire ? I understand lashing off the pull string to keep it up there but what if i wanted that insulatorvto be the end of my antenna ..woul i just tie my antenna wire in a knot to the end of that insulator ? Also where do i buy an insulator ?
@parosite You can make an insulator from a piece of UV stable plastic( the sun won't make it go brittle) or you could buy one from ebay.
The end of the wire does not want to be fixed, it needs to be able to move with the tree so adding a weight such as a milk jug with sand in, or a rock?
too light and your wire will become tangled, too heavy and there will to much tension on the feed end.
Always make it break away so your ATU doesn't visit the tree.
Ive just passed my foundation. I am an M6 call sign too. I am really interested in the long wire means of communication on 160 mtr. I am very keen to learn but i am very green to this tech at the moment so thank you for the great info so far.
Great idea, Mark. Would be a little bit of a trick to get my kevlar wire through with all the tie wraps installed. I guess with a large enough opening and some patience, it would go though.

You said that you would tie the end off to another tree or stake into the ground. Do you ever use counter weights in the set-up?

@stewsmeatmarket Hi
I use a counter weight at the moment, I think its the best way, Bunji's are also good for the single day portable setup,
Plastic milk cartoons are a good one.

I'm now studing for the advanced license, i'm 2e0rky at the moment should be M0??? in a few months time.
Good luck with experimenting with long wire antennas etc
