I have a fast computer and videos of other HD cameras are not jerky. I have also viewed some videos made by other NV100HD users - they are all jerky because every 8th (or 9th ?) frame is double.
Maybe Samsung fixed this problem with newer versions of NV100HD, but I don't believe that ;-)
But nowadays the NV100HD plays no role anymore as there are many other new HD cameras on the market.
Do you know if its predecessor, the NV24HD has the same problem? Judging from the HD videos I've seen on youtube, the NV24HD has better quality videos.
My \Laptop struggles with the videos in HD so cant really comment on your own camera. But the videos I have captured run perfectly on my tv when I play them back direct via the usb cable to my ps3. Ive posted a few videos with this camera now, but like I say, cant watch them in HD cause my Laptop is not fast enough. Hopefully the codec will get improved or work give me a new laptop(not much chance of that)
ehrm.. i dont have this camera but i do have the Panasonic TZ5.. dunno if ur familiar with it.. it can do 1280x720 in 30fps, but the NV100 can do 24fps only from what ive seen on the webshops..
Maybe the 30fps is like a emergency only function..
NV100HD. im just saying my experience of my camera is that i get better video playback using VLC some people may get better results than others using something else. HD video seems to play fine when viewing through the camera, but when played on pc i noticed it was jerky, which is why i suspected that the PC software also makes a difference. i played mine on a 2.2 core 2 duo with 3GB of ram and an 8600g. not the best set up but it seemed to work well for me. can firmware fix the "problem"?
Ugh. People need to stop bad mouthing this camera. There's nothing "jerky" about this. Smooth as a whistle on my iMac Core2Duo.
If it's jerky on your end then guess what?? It's your computer not being able to handle the H.264 codec that these produce.
I'm just saying. its not the best video on the planet. But at least take the time to realize what the actual problem is first. Get an updated computer if you wanna play with HD.
Try Using VLC media player to playback HD files. im new to cameras and have only just got my samsung nv 100hd but i found that when i recorded in HD 1280 X 720. the supplied software Quicktime was a bit jerky! I now use VLC media player as its playback is definately smoother than quicktime!
The video IS LAGGY no matter which player you use and how fast your computer ist. Every 9th frame of the video is no new picture, but the previous picture seems to be copied instead. Therefore there is a lag of 1/30 seconds every 8/30 or 9/30 seconds (i.e. that every 9th frame is a "double frame"). Of course, you will see this jerking only with fast movements (like cars). But the NV100HD MAKES LAGGY VIDEOS - that's a fact!
i think it is laggy when you watch it on comp because it is reading from a SD card and the memory file is soo big try copying and pasting the file from SD card to the comp and see if its smoother.
The video IS LAGGY no matter where you watch the video. But you cannot recognize the jerking on the camera display because the jerking is quite fine (every 8 frames there's a lag of 1/30 second!). And of course, you can recognize this jerking only with fast movements (like cars).
but i have some negative feeling about it. My hd vids dont feel too "HD-like". Whenever i film in dark places, the darker areas are very noisy, does this happen to you to? or is this a malfunction?
Yes, I have tried another class 6 SDHC card - same problem with this card. I have analyzed several videos from other users and all 720p videos have these double frames which cause the jerking/stuttering!
It is not a single problem of my camera - ALL Samsung NV100HD cameras have this problem!
I've analyzed several videos made with the NV100HD in Austria, Germany and Corea - and all videos contain a "doubled" frame after 8 or 9 frames. Therefore the video playback is laggy. Usually you can only see this lag at fast movements.
i have no such problem with mine...don't know what you are doing

The NV100HD is the only known camera with this lagging problem!
The video quality of its predecessor is even much better than the NV100HD's !!!
But the image quality of the NV24HD is a little bit worse than the NV100HD's.
Therefore:
You wan't good video quality -> choose NV24HD
You wan't good image quality -> choose NV100HD (or other better cameras ;)
By the way, there will soon come out many new HD cameras, e.g. WB100 / TL320, Ixus 960 IS / 110 IS, DSC-W290, EX-Z400, etc.

Thanks for the information! I was planning on picking up a new camera for my vacation. I guess I'll wait for the TL320 to come out!

Use VLC Player for playback! You won't need any further codecs. They only will slow down or raise erros on your system!
For playback without lags you need a fast computer with more than 2.4GHz and enough RAM.
A Dual Core with more than 1,3GHz should work as well.

BUt 1 Que for you here.. Is it NOT jerky in 24p?
tezzofino 3 years ago
the nv100 can film in 15fps, 30fps or 60fps
tehbigtoaster2 3 years ago
yes it can film in 60 and 30 fps.
in 320x240. And thats not even 1280x720p
in 720p it can only do 24, which is movie standard but TZ5 like i have can do 30 which is smooth.
tezzofino 3 years ago
it films 720p at 30fps, not 24. it's not even possible to film with this camera in any mode at 24fps.

You got money from Samsung?
Just watch this Youtube video and you'll see the lagging. Yeah, of course my 3,2GHz PC is too slow for Youtube, all the more for HD vids *rolleyes*
Just compare these two NV100HD videos:
vimeo[DOT]com/2627014
vimeo[DOT]com/1839118
They will show you that the NV100HD can NOT make smooth HD videos (no matter what computer you have).

Complete nonsense! Install the correct codecs on your computer and stop complaining. MY NV100HD gives perfect results

check my vids if you want to see some more samples from this cam

uploader, i have a question for you:
well before that, i just got this cam.
but i have some negative feeling about it. My hd vids dont feel too "HD-like". Whenever i film in dark places, the darker areas are very noisy, does this happen to you to? or is this a malfunction?
please reply!! thanks!
maloomkees 3 years ago
It would be helpful if you uploaded your video.
But what I can say: noisy videos in dark places are quite normal for compact cameras. Don't expect too much of the "hd" videos of a compact digicam.

why others can get smooth video?
search on yt...
- "NV100HD로 찍은 인사동"
- "(NV100HD)Card Magic Trick"
iimvxk 3 years ago
They can NOT get smooth videos!
1) The videos on youtube are re-encoded (in size and quality). Therefore the jerking/stuttering is hardly noticeable.
2) Generally the jerking/stuttering is only with (fast) movements noticeable, e.g. cars. The "Card Magic Trick" is almost a still video ;-)
Compare the HD video 1839118 with the 640x480 video 2627014 at Vimeo, com!
Then you'll see what I mean. I cannot recommend this camera for 720p videos!
