  • Great generator

  • awsome.

  • sorry to ask, is that a electric motor or an alternator?

  • generateur 24 V site Weeb discoide1451

  • whats that power generator thingey called ?

  • can we produce 220V with this kind of electric producer?

  • Did you weatherproof the motor?

  • cool and good luck ,mine is keeping my batteries well charged at my cabin , the hub that came with my blades is fastend by an "arbour" that has a set screw "allen key" that tightens to the shaft like a collar, best of luck , have fun

  • @goboats hi woould you be so kind as to let me know where you got the blades regards chris ps good wind generator bravo

  • @united4mi hey thanks for the comment ..the blades i got off ebay but here is the link to the guys that have the best ,there called hydrogenappliances...best of luck ...

  • Hey this is great I bought the same generator, the 42 vdc model, and the same blades with hub, but how did you connect the generator's keyed shaft to the hub? Please help!

  • good question comf i have mine locked to the north west so i dont need one but you can get a special collar for the top of your post that swivel with the wire, thanks for asking

  • Hey i couldn't help but notice the wiring. whats your solution for the twisting around the pole?

  • HEY YO I WONDERED WHY THERE WAS THREE WIERED SHAPED HOLES IN MY FRIGGIN WHEELIE BIN, AND WHY MY WASHING MACHINE HAS STOPPED WORKING! PLEASE SEND ME BACK MY BITS!

  • How much wind is needed to make it go that fast??? and what is so special about that particular motor?

  • I want to make my own, but how do you deal with the wire tangling ant tension when the unit rotates more than 360 degrees?

  • @TheHellFarmer put a stopper on it so it can only turn 80 degrees each way

  • have you applied a motor to it yet? mine isn't a vertical, ad hauls butt till I add the 1 to 5 gear ratio to it and the motor. I had an idea since it's easier to reduce the gears from 5 to 1 than 1 to 5, we should be able to use a pully system that gradually uses the gears to pull up a 100lb weight with ease, and hit a lever to drop, while producing enough rpm to charge a battery bank, this way all of the wind is utalized for power at some point as a cycle, instead of relying on high wind only

  • that black pipe will bend.... my electrical condiut bent 45 degrees!... i have alot of the same setup but i have 9 blades and my indiana general is a little longer... im getting a good 120 watts from mine

  • 3:08 - Does Joshua buy his own socks and do his own laundry in order to go outside in stocking feet? :)

  • I think you did a superb job! Your blades are balanced, your welds look solid, and I'd like to see more of your videos!

  • volts volts volts what good would that be your looking for amps and watts not 1000 volts. toys make volts... real wind generators make watts watch what you buy out there they try to sell volts and make it sounds like your going to get something yeaaah this baby will put out 90 volts!!! lol. great video.

  • couldnt watch it. camera movement making me sick

  • Have you considered using a "squirrel cage" design? I think you could make more power with that. Just a guess but I think you would get a more consistent power source with a squirrel cage design as the direction the wind is coming from doesnt matter thus it does not have to turn to face the wind. Have you tried putting anything in place to regulate the voltage/amperage? Are you going to use this for anything practical and if so what? Thanks.

  • @helloman1976 Well designed propellers have a higher maximum theoretical efficiency than all vertical axis (VAWT) designs, like squirrel cage. But vertical designs are built anyway because of other advantages than efficiency.

  • nice build. funny vidkeep up the good work guys

  • If it can sustain 8 amps continuously, your 100 a/h battery will be charged in slightly more than 12 hours. At 5 amps, that will be 20 hours. And that would have to be constant over the period - same level of wind. The battery will then contain 1200 watts of power (1.2 kWh) of which about 80% is usable. In a cabin with a very light load (a couple LED lights and a laptop say) that may be all you need. It would run the afore-mentioned washing machine about 30 Minutes.

  • The wattage is always rated at max efficiency, amps X volts =watts (power) thats never accomplished .The meter is set up from 20 to allow readings over 20 ,alsothe gauge does not lie ,.We measured load on a 12 battery and got 13 .5 volts per hour in a 25mph wind , So you cant do much "with that "??? except charge a 100 amp 12 volt battery in about 8 hours 13.5 X 8 =108 and thats just fine with me :)...its acually being set up at my cabin this summer ..will send you a copy of the next vid

  • @goboats you rock!! too many people think that a wind gen is direct current to any electronic device, but they always seem to fail to consider battery bank charging!!

  • how do sell things on EBAY?

  • sorry not me dude...

  • Pretty nice rig. Couldn't you just put an older model of automobile voltage regulator between the motor and the battery to regulate how much voltage gets there?

  • Great Video Goboats. I just picked up those blades. I have a question for you: In your video when you are right by the unit you can hear the blades whirring. How loud would you say this is from 10 feet away? Would it be something that would annoy a neighbor?

  • Not really very loud ,but could be heard from 30 ft ...maybe like a car running

  • Quite cool. Am wondering how you were able to do this with a total cost of around $150? I'm finding today that the Wind Scorpion blades alone (from Thermodynamic Systems) cost $149, shipped. Then there's the cost of the motor, shaft adapter, tail, rail, pole, welding cable and other wiring, pole mounting hardware, and other misc. parts.

  • not bad! and you're getting 400 watts? what about the connections to your home or anything?

  • pretty neat set up, i want put that on my place in the island. what website did you say this guy sell his product? motor and blades ready made, just the fabrication of the mount and the tower perfect.

  • You are fortunate to have so much wind. Hi from sunny FL

  • Was pretty simple really,The blades come with a mounting plate that has a hole in the center,i mounted an arbour, that comes with a set screw to fasten it to the shaft of the motar, the arbour also has a threaded hole in the centre for a bolt to fasten the blade plate to the arbour...make sure its center...good luck ...have fun :)

  • Hey goboats I have the exact same generator and am about to start this project! I love your simple design, can you tell me how you fit the blades to the motor? what parts did you need? thanks

  • That thing's spinning pretty fast at 6:15

  • You mention good 'power' several times, but never measure it. Voltage looks good, but is only useful if you can maintain that into a load.

  • well of course your right ,when we hooked up to a battery to put it under load it was still averaging 12 -17 volts ...pretty darn good you would agree

  • @goboats Volts are only half the equation. We need to know amps too to determine the wattage output.

  • Wow, very nice output from one windgen! I made one today from scraps I found around the house which is an old electric car fan and some scrap metal, but my blades aren't balanced, so I'm still working on it. Very nice generator you've got there.

  • thanks very much..do some research and these worked out fine..good luck

  • Your Welcome, my blades are homemade if you click on "Dean C993" to my profile you will see the wooden blades that i made with a hub on a 7 volt dc motor not alot but in future i will have a model like yours, thx

  • Very nice, its very hard to get blades that mach the generator!Good job

  • Thats freaking cool. I wonder how you could make the base a bit more stable.

  • your right it was a little unstable ...a large cement pad or bury the base deep

  • I've a 4010D-66 from indiana general. Is yours motor also this model ?

  • the one i have is very close to the same ...model # is 401od-59 , year 1985

    good luck

  • try poor mans guide wind turbines.these blades realy do work.loads of work yet to do.watch this space.

  • Great video, very inspiring. I hope to do the same thing.

  • thanks vm ,good luck with yours, its good fun and usefull

  • What kind/brand/model of motor are you using?

  • its an indiana general dc permanent magnet motor much the same as an ametek 30 that might sell on ebay for a few more dollars, i was lucky to get this one ....needed brushes that were very easy to get

  • I've searched on Ebay and Amazon but can not find those blades? Can you link me to the/a vendor?

    Thank you in advance.

  • just go to "all catagories" and type in wind generator blades ...quaz661 has many listed there

  • Ah, thank you. I actually eventually found them under a search. Sadly, I live on a plot of land surrounded by 45 foot tall trees so I think I'll need a high enough pole to put it on.

  • Look at here GO!

  • These Wind Scorpoin® blades really KICK ASS.

They are the fastest blades that I have ever tested on the market today And they are nice and SILENT.

  • if your talking about these blades your right they really buzz up the rpm

  • Nice windgen. How many amps does it put out.

  • havnt gauged the amps yet but im assuming 3-6 on a good day judging the volts. The motor is much like an ameteck 30

  • please! make sure the base is very secure as it could topple in a strong gust.
