  • i have a question about trying to reset/flash my ECU to stock! message me please thanks

  • what did your head unit come out of? i got one out of a 2003 denali, will that work?

  • @5804488 Mine came out of a 2005 Cadillac. The trick is getting one with the same amplifier ("LUX" or non-"LUX" -- both are Bose systems). If you don't, you have to reflash the head unit. So without knowing what amplifier you have, and what amplifier the denali has, I can't say if it will work. You can find a lot of good info on forums like The Diesel Place. I don't know enough about the different options to say for sure what will and won't work. But it is totally worth it! Good luck!

  • i see you have a navigation installed was that a hard process to do?

  • @5804488 It wasn't too bad. The hardest part was pulling the dash off to install the GPS antenna. The rest was literally plug and play. I did add the speed wire from the dash to the radio, but many vehicles have this wire from the factory. With no experience, it could probably be done in an evening.

  • with efi live tune does ur name stay in the little digital message board?

  • @TheBassmaster96 No, it only shows up during the flashing process.

  • Put some diesel in it.

  • @sagius It had a full tank. You can see at the start of the video how the gauge is on full. Once EFILive connects to the truck, it turns off all the computers so it can program faster, which causes the dash to read zeros for everything. You can even see when the fuel gauge jumps down to 0 in the video at 0:32

  • @DAVe3283Martin UNKNOWN DRIVER GETS NO DIESEL

  • @sagius Yeah, screw that guy, no one likes that "unknown driver" anyway! :P

  • Just curious how did u get ur radio to have the GMC logo?

  • @SparkZ1420 That is the factory GM navigation system (out of a Cadillac, I believe), and it does that automatically. It will show the Chevy, GMC, or Cadillac logo (as appropriate). It was really easy to install, just plug it in then have the dealer do the TheftLock relearn. The factory nav system is probably my favorite upgrade to the truck.

  • @DAVe3283Martin Thats pretty cool. I have a 2001 Chevy Dmax, EFI tuned and other goodies. But I have a Pioneer 4100DVD Double Din radio, and I'm tryin to find ways how to upload Chevrolet/GM images to the radio, so that the screen has a logo on it.

  • I just bought an 03 2500hd GMC with the CC, SB. Ordered EFILive and it will be in today!!!!! Can't wait...don't know how to tune though :( I have 2 vids of the truck so far BTW, you should subcribe, i'll be adding more as the truck gets modded. NICE TRUCK!!

  • @scidav87 Thanks! I subscribed to your videos as well. EFILive will be fun, just be careful, you can hurt the truck pretty easily if you go too far.

  • @DAVe3283Martin Got the tuner and put the injector main injectoin pulse at 40% over and put all timing tables (a,b,and c) to the same as table a (high altitude) tables. Made a HUGE difference over factory and should add approx 80-100 HP or so. Put it in 4X4 and launched the truck and broke both front tie rods :( Time for sleeves, lol.

  • @scidav87 lol, that sucks. I've still got stock tierods, so I am stuck with 2x4 for now. Looks like you basically did the McRat 20/20 tune on steroids. Should run pretty well. Just be careful, because where you're at is about all the stock transmission can take. If you ever go on the Diesel Place, download the Timing Calculator V3 spreadsheet, then you can put in some better timing at high throttle. Most people use about 50%, which is pretty safe. Lots to read there.

  • @DAVe3283Martin Yeah, thats what it was pretty much. Got the tranny into "limp" mode on the highway last night too :( I put it to 25%. I'm having "IdahoRob" write a DSP5 tune for me, and i'll look at his tunes and learn even more about tuning :)

  • @scidav87 IdahoRob makes good tunes. He did a DSP2 tune for me when I bought EFILive. I learned a lot from that, and reading online.

Yeah, be careful with your transmission. Diesel horsepower can be addicting, and expensive! Although with a DSP5 on order, you've probably got plans for upgrading your transmission.

  • so do you have to have a computer or can you just use the flash scan v2

  • Currently, you have to have a computer to write to the ECU, but you can read the tune off with just the Flash Scan V2. They are working on standalone flashing, so all you need to write a tune is the V2, but that's not out yet. They say it will be a free update when it's released.

  • edit the messages.txt file

  • How do you enter your tuning name??

  • As Mike said, edit the messages.txt file. It is located here:

    [my documents]\EFILive\V7.5\User Configuration\Messages.txt

Often, only the first 2 messages show up, FYI.

    Enjoy!

  • so have u upped fuelling or just rectified a fault?

I dont like all this electric-trickery, more to go wrong!

  • I find that being able to modify the computers lets me keep the truck running better. So far, 100% of all failures have been mechanical, and I have been able to work around most of them electronically.

For example, I corrected the speedometer (larger tires), disabled a check engine light for a glow plug malfunction (the glow plug snapped off, and I got tired of the constant CEL, and this way the other 7 keep working), and I changed the shift points to give me slightly better city mileage.

  • interesting that u can do all that, expensive to buy the equipment to do it with though.

My main problem with electronics is that they dont last as well as mechanical diesels, low voltages, narrow wires, any slight fatigue or corrosion and it all fails.

In 20 years time will any trucks like yours still be running?

  • The tools are expensive, but like all tools, they work on more than one vehicle.

We maintain all our equipment, and so far I have been able to keep all our electronic engines working just fine (but I'm an Electrical Engineer). Fatigue and corrosion cause failures to belts and bearings just as easily as to wires and sensors. With good maintenance, both mechanical and electrical diesels should last 20+ years.

Keep in mind, the truck in the video has over 230,000 miles and over 7,100 hours on it.
