Fuck I love Orbital. Lush is the most amazing track(s). To think I only heard them in high school some 5-6 years back, it seems like I was there in the 90's they've become such a close companion.
When they were young and doing this stuff no one could touch them. Nobody from Detroit, Berlin or anywhere else in the UK. It was undefinable then as it is now.
@artmack Saw 'em some 1993 or was it '94 here in Phinland. They had those flashlights fitted alright, and played some previews from Snivilisation and after that gig gave a few tapes of that (That's C-cassettes) away. I didn't get one :( They were the Shit. They did it for the audience, it was sequenced but stuff like Satan that really dropped had the breakdown extended as they were in the control...
Remember when started listening to their stuff it was so innovative, still is. They're some sort of magicians when it comes down to the quality of sound. Thanks heaps for putting it up here!
"I'm just gonna ask you the same thing. How did you walk on that?"
"Shit happens"
"You blew his brains all over me and how do they let you win?" "Shit happens." "Shit happens, well I guess so"
"You didn't tell the cops that metal in my mouth makes me gag didn't you? Cause It was a funny thing. I couldn't plastic forks in jail. I had to eat everything with my fingers."
The 3-2 part is from one of my favorite films: Kiss of Death (1995). This song can be heard in the film when Jimmy Kilmartin (David Caruso) prepares to fight Little Junior Brown (Nicolas Cage).
@csisession9 I just saw that film on Tuesday and that scene will stick with me. My reaction: "WUT Lush 3-2!? Little Junior's a tasteful bloke. not bad." lol
This album along with Amorphous Androgynous - Tales of Ephidrina, were the most influential works for me at teh time THey are both responsible for my full on plunge in to raving/djing. Master works.
Damn right the kids these days wouldn't know good music if it landed in their soup. Bring back national service I say - they call all babysit while the 30 somethings go clubbing!
One of their best. Pivotal moment in electronic when this track dropped. Kids nowdays call it "primitive" but they have no idea what this track meant. This type of music has evolved into pop music for kids now and there is nothing as ground breaking and innovative today as this was then. my .02$
Major pioneers in modern electronic music IMO Lush 3-1,3-2 is one of the most under appreciated pieces of music which shaped modern techno, trance, acid and progressive house. The movements are akin to a symphonic structure this is closer to a classical piece than most people realize.
@gcbarone Why? Its just the album cover and the audio needs some work. So why not just buy the album (cos its a belter anyways) and sit and stare at the cover! The cover will be clearer and the audio!
oh my... me- sitting on the beach.. my old n cheap walkman (tapes, anyone remember those? :) ) a little weed..... man. timemachine, please... is it really 20 years already? man i'm old.
@DerImperatorMoebi .i know how you feel.just listened to this track & got transpoted back to 1992.it was on a mix tape by sasha.i used to chillout to it after work with some weed under a star lit nite.best mix ive ever ever !!! heard.sadly ive lost that tape.but great memories remain !
When I'm old and retired in an oap home, I'll be tapping my toes and dancing with my zimmer frame to tunes like this, boring the tits off the pretty young carers about the banging e fueled raves I used to go when I was their age, then I'd grope her breast cos I'd probably be a dirty old man by then.
@MrCriticize I was just discussing this with a coworker last night. We'll be telling kids about this and about the days before mobile phones and they'll just give us the, "Whatever you say, grandpa" :D
I can see what people mean about the brown album. Although Belfast remains my all time favourite tune by Orbital, the brown album flows like a mixtape.
oh yes they did top the brown album with their EP called Diversions.. It was only ever released in the USA.. i got it as an import from HMV.. truely the best ever EP and has the most kinetic version of Impact ever
villalobos played this in fabric a couple of months back. absolutely loved it. best tune of the night. didnt know what it was tho and i just found out. its now my favourite tune of the moment, but it came out 16 years ago lol.
They really know how to do it right..........And their work with female vocals, it's unique.......this track still is and probably will stay, one of the best electronic music achivements
what makes this track so unique is its irregular beat mixed with a fast techno track...not to mention the high almost eery falsetto reminiscent of a seagull's cry...all in all very catchy!;)
This album set the whole poompin choons ball rolling for me.
