@BokoNOM No, that particular part isn't very funny, nor is it supposed to be. I would think that fact would be obvious. This skit satirizes the absurdly negative (and absurdly empty in terms of content) nature of campaign commercials. Beyond that, it's hilarious when David Cross simply says "hi" toward the beginning (if I have to explain why it's hopeless) and an even more subtle joke is when the water ski instructor rethinks his view but then they cut away. It's a brilliant sketch overall.

I am sorry to say but you seem to miss the point of this skit. It's not one that relies on complete absurdity, but rather on the modification of a familiar theme toward absurdity. That is to say, if no-one had ever seen some douche-bag politician advertise themselves on tv this would be far less funny because there would be no reference point. By my comment I meant the ads in the beginning, which could be real campaign ads.

God, do you guys have any idea how many different locations even this little sketch required to film it on a shrimpy HBO budget? I love the result, but we had to shoot this all over town, and it was not fun. We worked our asses off.

Mr. Show was soooo much work, but it all turned out to be worth it. I am so proud to be associated with it. Funniest US comedy since the heyday of 1970s SNL.
