  • I imagine Naoko cutest than this girl, sorry

  • @AdiVampire i think that's the girl that was in same movie as brad pitt.

  • @SparkyNicki YEP! in Babel!

  • is main actress the deaf girl in Babel?

  • @ssotkow yeahh i think too

  • @ssotkow Yup!

  • 1:54

    NOT TAKARA

    he is KORA KENGO

  • like..is this for real? will there be a movie?

  • IT'S L! XD

  • Japanese women are so HOT.

  • err - *thEn* I meant.

  • toi dang rat mong cho " Rung Nauy". Cac dien vien that tuyet. chuc tac pham thanh cong

  • After seeing this+the trailer...Sorry but this cast 's suck,Toru's too much of a pretty boy,Naoko's not classy enough,Midori's kind of Japan pop idol pretty,And Reiko is she from Korea's Tv industry...i always imagine Norwegian Wood's characters are kind of normal looking yet aloof ,detached from the world around them, trying hard to fit in yet never can, these actors look good but they seem fit right in this tactical Japanese TV drama...

  • as much as I am looking forward to seeing this movie the images in my mind vivid and more real than what will be seen on the big screen will attempt to be fair although from having seen glimpses of the characters portrayed in the flesh by real actors I am going to just have to accept the film for a film, and the book will always be foremost in my mind as being the best. comprende??

  • The cast seems ok, even Watanabe, but that Naoko does not look like the delicate/fragile girl in the book. I'd love a film about Wind-up bird Chronicle, but it would need like 30 hours to make a good one.

  • @corucorules

That's a bad picture. I guarantee you she will seem different in the movie. Tran sometimes makes funny-seeming casting decisions, until you see the movie: than it makes perfect sense.

  • хуита

  • Where the hell is Storm Trooper? Man, he's my favorite!

  • C . R . A . P

  • I cant wait to see this movie! this book was just unforgettable...

  • Muy fea esa Naoko, y yo en su lugar ponía a Kizuki por Watanabe. Ese Watanabe es muy guapo. Midori es tal como la imaginé!

  • It's seriously all too nostalgic, seeing all those names again.

I've read Norwegian Wood for so many times through all those years, I feel like all of the characters are my friends. It's hard to describe.

  • @Mikailamylove te escucho... : )

  • cant wait until December to watch this nice film :(

  • Omg! When is the movie gonna be out? The book's AWESOME!

  • Hey, that's "L" from Death Note!

  • @Wodey25

    Thats exactly what I said ,I was like " Thats L "

    I luv Death Note ! :D

  • Some drunk people should have been missed the "I Like" button! ... Can't wait for this...

  • i was thinking the same thing @illnessinducingx

  • OMG! Nagasawa (L)

  • omg omg,

Can't wait to see... cast looks good.

When is it going to be out?... and ...hope they don't screw it up.

  • can't wait to see the film... mmm...

  • The girl who plays Reiko doesn't look old enough to me.

  • Think Mamiko Noto is better for Naoko

  • @Anchiovy I agree!

  • @Anchiovy I think Rinko is better, becuase the one you mention looks too "sweet" and lacks hence the vulnerability Rinko can convey. I have only seen Babel og Rinko's films, but I think she does an outstanding part in it. She's talented and touches the audience. If she'd been too pretty, it wouldn't've been the same!

  • @EscargoTouChaud Naoko is a delicate, vulnerable girl; Midori is a fighter, self-aware and independent, thus I find more similarities between Rinko and Midori, think they share quite same character and strong personality

  • Were they influenced by The Beatles song title: Norwegian Wood?

  • @DAYD111

Yes, the book starts when the protagonist, as an adult, is sitting on a plane when norwegian wood plays, and it reminds him of past happenings in his youth. And so the story continues with the memory.

  • @Gnaeus1

Hmm, well, I didn't understand something: when he was in Germany he was talking to Naoko ?! Naoko killed herself in that sanitarium, or however they call it. I believe, Toru was dreaming he was with Naoko in Germany.

At the end of the book, Toru phoned Midori and asked her where she was.

  • I love this book! I can't wait to see it!

  • fuckin perfect

  • The music is Beethoven's third Symphony, 3rd movement. And what does Beethoven's 3rd Symphony have to do with Norwegian Wood?

  • @werderwayne

Read the book (and all of Murakami's) and you'll understand.

  • What does Norwegian Wood have to do with Beethoven's 3rd Symphony?

  • omg, they're making a norwegian wood movie? I had no ideia o.o

  • which song is it?

  • i'm surprised at whom they went with for Reiko. yeah, i always thought she'd be in her late 30's early 40's. midori was a mistake in terms of the cast. i'd have to really think about a better replacement for her, but that's not how i imagined her. more importantly though, who's playing stormtrooper?????

  • Love the book. As far as I can say, all the actors are great artists. Hope they do something about Reiko's face... she is not wrinkly at all. All these beautifull Japanese girls with their beautiful skin... sucks.... it is the imperfect which owns the art.

  • @StupidPinkFairy If you knew anything about art, you'd know that judging an actor/actress simply on their looks is stupidly superficial.

Rinko Kikuchi is a mindbendingly good actress, she'll do wonders with the role. The chick that they got for Midori however is just some superficial fluff, I don't know if that'll work, but we'll see...

  • @GoldenEyeRa

Not so aggressive please! I never mentioned that she is a bad actress. I just wanted them (because I think it is an important part of the book) to do some make-up job on her face. The main character had a very close relationship to Reiko, even though she was much older and had this (very often mentioned) wrinkly face, I think this is important. Because it was her personality he kind of loved. Trough this, you can help the actor to really get into the role and impress through acting

  • reiko was described as older, and wrinkly in the book.

  • reiko ishida, the most beautiful? :S i didnt get that reading the book

  • watching this video polluted my brain I didn't imagine the characters like them ...I hope the film is good though.

  • I can't wait!!!!

  • dare they mess with the midori character... coz I'm in love with her :).......in fact I am considering a personal boycott... I am too much in love with her memories from the book......

  • ohh ahhh ahhh kenichi!!! i love you matsuyama!!! ahhh ahhhh

  • Toru is gorgeous!! and I think Kiko matches perfectly Midori's personality and attitude! Can't wait for the film!!!! Hope it comes to Mexico!

  • omg nana cast haha

  • This is going to be one hard movie to plaese the fans of the novel. Good luck.

  • i just didnt imagine toru is like that

  • tetsuji is sooo adorable!!! i think he'll make a good nagasawa. lol

  • Kenichi is soo cute <3

  • The fella from death note is a good pick for watanabe but i dunno about rinko whatsher face, she's a great actress, just not how i envision her, ah well!

  • When I was reading the book I pictured Midori as the mute girl from Babel and now it turns out she's playing Naoko, haha.

Also, I'm not so sure about the actor playing Watanabe... he was supposed to be average looking. I hope he's a good actor.

  • he's L from the live action Death note....he's a new comer....however....i guess he's a good one...he was able to grasp L's character after all.....

  • damn, these asian celebs are so gorgeous

  • My image of Watanabe is 172cm 55kg, pale but beautul skin, wearning glasses, like to wear white shirt, guy you can find at mathematics, physics or chemical department at the university. So definitely not Matsuyama. Hope this will not destroy the original...

  • He doesn't wear glasses.

  • well, thats not how he was discribed in the novel...

  • I always pictured Tadanobu Asano or maybe Hidetoshi Nishijima from Kitano's film "Dolls" as a typical Murakami protagonist, but Watanabe is supposed to be 19 or 20. I think the director is lucky to get the Japanese actress from Babel cast as Naoko.

  • Kikuchi really is as talented as they come.

  • Midori's really pretty o.o.....

  • Watanabe should not be this cute...

But all the cast seems to be really good-looking. If I were making it, only Naoko and Nagasawa would be beautiful/handsome.

  • Yes, its the official cast of the film! (==>> Wikipedia) The film will be released in 2010!

I think Kenichi Matsuyama is the perfect choice to play Toru! It's amazing, that they will shoot this film. And I agree about jazz - when I'm reading his books it gives me an impression of listening to good jazz music. That's somehow magical.

  • Is this the official cast of the really movie?

  • Tooru is L of Death Noteee =D

I'm looking forward to watching this moviee ^^

  • Ah I want to see Anna Tsuchiya in a Murakami movie one day.

  • Norwegian Wood is probably the most filmable of Murakami's books, though. I think a good movie could be made if the script is strong and the direction and acting are even stronger. But it will not be easy.

  • I agree, but I think that also Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World coluld be a fgreat movie

  • Great book,i wonder if they will succeed in putting all those emotions into a movie, without ruining it...For me the closest one was probably lost in translation which was inspired by his books...Bad choice for Watanabe,I picture him being melancholic-depressed,like all of the main characters in Murakami's books...

  • nah....i don't think it's a bad choice for watanabe....Keichi might just be a good one since he was able to act as L from death note....and anyway....the actor isn't the kind of happy go lucky character if you've seen death note live action....since he is a new comer...we still don't know his scope...ahahaha...

  • I stopped reading much fiction for years. I picked up

Murakami's "What I Talk About When I Talk About

Running." Somehow, it led me to into a Murakami

reading craze. All kinds of reasons in his writing, perhaps.

  • I started reading Murakami the same way, "...when I talk about running was great"!

  • Cool. Somehow, aside from his other talents, I suspect his love for music-jazz, especially, gives his

writing an instinct for phrasing , and bee-bop surprises. Just me, anyway. Addicting stuff.

  • I agree. When I read his book I feel as if I'm in the middle of jazz. Not the crazy, high intensity jazz feeling you get from reading On the road but smoother and melancholic

  • isn't naoko the actress from "babel" movie?

  • Yes, and she's possibly the cutest thing to walk the earth

  • she sure is adorable <3

  • @scofield13 Yeah.

  • Well I just finished reading this book and I liked it but can't help feeling numb by the whole story. Anh Hung Tran is a perfect choice to direct this movie. After reading the book and then listening to U2's With or Without You, it really brings new meaning to the song. The two seem like a perfect match. I wonder if Anh Hung Tran will use it in the movie.

  • vietnamese director????

Naoko is so disappointed ~ ~....

  • Are you kidding? His being Vietnamese has nothing to do with his directing abilities. Anh Hung Tran is an amazing director who did Scent of Green Papaya and Vertical Ray of the Sun. I've never read this book but now that Anh Hung Tran is directing the movie version, I'm sure to read the book.

  • no i was just surprised that he's vietnamese

I don't look down on him or smt :|......

  • @flunacy i also dont understand what were u trying to point out lol... u just repeated someone else's point zzz

  • Comment removed

  • also his debut film was nominated for an oscar for best foreign film. it's not like they hired some random viet director from vietnam. he's an acclaimed french-trained director who besides the oscar nomination also won some Cannes film festival awards

  • mmm..Reika Kirishima is lovely

  • oh gosh im soo happy like wowee just finshed reading the book, very good boook the cast are perfect and really beautful reiko doesnt look middle ged

    anyways cant wait

  • Is this actually coming out? I really hope it is, the book was amazing. I don't think you could beat the novel version but still, I'd like to see a movie adaptation!

  • I think they are different from original image.

Honestly, I do not want anyone to make it into a film.

    Yareyare.

  • and i also forgot to say,i was really hoping there won't be any adaptation of anyx of his books..it's just..not right :D

but still, glad it's not in hollywood production or any other than asian -_-

  • I for one hope I am alive to see this movie. I will keep an open mind but I can say honestly I have never seen a movie based on a book that has ever been better than the book.
