  • this is a truly incredible performance

  • This video was just added to a music playlist at JustPlay.fm

  • he is perfect!! the most beautiful tone ever.

  • Best clarinet tone ever.

  • I really love the Sound of the clarinet and the cello... Which one should I begin to play???

  • @someone2871 Cello. :-)

  • @someone2871 Clarinet.

  • wow i really like this guy. a really nice sound from the clarinet.

  • splendita esecuzione

  • this piece is amazing. leister went for a sound that is completely pure which makes it so pleasant to the ear and i think other players should look up to him and what he has accomplished as a clarinetist.

  • Oh my god, makes me want to play my clarinet with a cellist and a pianist and just rock it out...I also cried cause it's so beautiful T^T

  • This is absolutely amazing!!! His sound is so pure and clear.

  • @sarara110

I'm surprised no one is mentioning Kell

  • SPAZIALE! the incipit's terrificant!

  • I heard German clarinetists say: Leister does have an incredibly beautiful tone... but only one!

  • what do you mean by, 'only one'?Surely an instrument can only sound one way?

  • There is a lot of variety within that sound.

Leister is an artist who made a choice to make that instrument sound as even as possible, which is a great achievement.

The trade-off is: that idea, as beautiful a sound as Leister reached, denies the variation of sound quality, which can be seen as a serious artistic limitation if you consider the exceptional versatility of a clarinet.

Most artists before and after him, even only in the classical field, tried and try to explore a bigger range.

  • cool, thanks for the feed back .

    Calu

  • Agree wholeheartedly!

  • I agree and according to me, Leister had make a choise for a sound that is the most naturally clarinet sound we can obtain; I think clarinetists should listen to him to understand HOW play.. than everyone chooses his way to put out him-self

  • @konsonans Extremely well put!

His phrasing is incredible, but I personally prefer Harold Wright, whose sound was as versatile as his musical ideas, and as refined as his technical precision. But, that's just me. He, Leister, Marcellus, and Drucker are head-and-shoulders above the well-known, showboating clarinetists of today.

  • @konsonans Exaclty! The greatest clarinetist? Probably. As a musician? Not so much.

It all comes down to "expression through sound", not just sound. If I wanted evenness of sound I would rather listen to the piano.

  • @konsonans Also very well put!

  • Although Leister do not have such a good sound as a soilist, I think its sound contrasts and blend (incredible!!) better with other instruments than which occurs with other clarinetists. VERY GOOD.

  • haha whatever.

  • Im doing this piece with my chamber group but with the combination of piano, viola (me) playing the clarinet part and basson playing the cello part. it sounds dang awesome!

  • Karl Leister's tone comes out of my instrument in my dreams.

  • Va bene, hai vinto! :P

    Frimeur quand même...

  • Frimeur, va!

  • one of my favourites! Mange tak!
