i love this performance.. i personally dont know why in the world people are aware of xma videos and bash about what is real and what is not! the solution is simple, don't watch it! not to mention, these martial artist focus on tradition as well. its called sport karate for a reason. you need to know how to separate practicality from entertainment.
Nice Dance. It has nothing to do with swords. where's the Tutu. This is not martial arts. if he did that with a real sword he would behead himself in the first minute or so. That would be something to see.
Hahaha, come now - can't you see the control of one's body to do a 'dance' like this? Nobody (who knows anything about fighting) is pretending this "kata" would ever work in a fight. It's sheerly a show of control and power.
This is coming from someone who uses (among other styles) Kung Fu San Soo, essentially the Chinese equivalent of Krav Maga. Entirely practical moves; Only rarely do you see fancy moves.
There is little control and no power. the kissaki flops around like a wet fish. He is a talented acrobat that happens to have a sword in his hand.He is moving so fast he has no control over the weapon. if someone yelled freeze he could not. its all a blur that would easily be overcome by a strong fart.
Your first statement is half-correct. There is control, but little power. I ask you; Can you do a "Webster flip", or a Butterfly Twist while landing with the kind of precision that he does?
Your answer is probably no (I don't mean to sound aggressive). Given that, you don't know the kind of absolute-control it takes to land such maneuvers. So, while he sword IS swinging around whilly-nilly, he DOES have incredible control.
But even further, his whole routine is MEANT to be a 'show' - it's entertainment. He's not pretending he could actually win a fight with these techniques. True, he IS trying to demonstrate control, but still, it's all for entertainment value.
But to say this directly; I agree with you to a large degree - this has no/few practical implications. I consider 'practical' to be Krav Maga, BJJ, and Kung Fu San Soo (which is a time-tested style, in it's true form).
And to give you an 'advisory' for the future...I would recommend against negatively-commenting on XMA, in the context of practical application. Because for most, it's already assumed that it's impractical.
And if you haven't seen my profile videos, I myself am an "XMA-ist". And I'll even say this IS a dance. It's aerial-breakdancing, basically. But it DOES take an incredible amount of strength and control. Which DOES transfer into practical fighting ability.
This does take a lot of control. No doubts. The acrobatics are amazing. I do wish i could land a whatever flip you mentioned.
BUT we are also correct in the fact that this is not martial arts at all. I have seen a few XMA guys with all the goods. Great control, Great form, great concentration, and even one guy had power. it was impressive. You did not come off as aggressive although the word "advisory" sounded a pointed. Peace and have fun my friend.
@videoedit69 it's not martial arts at all...... let's just completely disregard the fact that XMA is based around the best martial arts moves in the world, because this just clearly IS NOT martial arts.... *sarcasm intended, if not noticed*
@MichaelC."XMA is based around the best martial arts moves in the world"
Put down the pipe. Half the stuff XMA does is crap. There is no control.
Stances are terrible. Any "martial arts" is set aside for the OOO look at me factor" XMA is garbage as far as martial arts value. It is acrobatic, athletic and energetic, but useless in ALL aspects when it comes to "fighting" This guy doesnt even hold the sword correctly. Its very nice twirling.
Just watched a sword performance with tricking on youtube and I JIZZED IN MY PANTS

Again though, I'm not meaning to sound aggressive/jerkish/combative. And I apologize if I came off that way.
