  • how did you fix it because i have the same problem Please answer.

  • yea the DOHC engines have a habit of getting loose from sitting for a while ... start it and let it run then check it.. if its still loose get a new belt tensioner .

  • As has been said before ....that is normal if it has been standing for a while. start it and will tighten right up.

  • So did yu get a new hydro tensioner??

  • THE TENSIONER WAS TOAST!

  • turn it over for a sec and see how much slack is in it then.

  • ITS NORMAL!!!

  • get a new tensioner. mine did the same thing. ge it fixed before you jump out of time. its a bitch to do, but you can do it on your own.

  • u need a new hydro tensioner. mine did same

  • does anyone have the directions on how to reset the timing for a 1993 3000gt/stealth DOHC N/A?

  • that belt looks old if u do any work to it replace the belt...

  • Your idler adjuster pulley needs to be adjusted..

  • Hey do u guyz know why if the RPM shows below 1 RPM and it goes up and dwn between 0 n 1 when the air conditioning is on for the GTO VR4 Twin Turbo? it looks like mine is unstable... u guyz know anythin bout dat?

  • when you turn it on does it make a horrible knocking sound?

mine does and my timing belt is loose as well. not as loose as yours but it has way to much slack in it.

  • I'm expecting to have the motor out of the car tonight, it's just about ready to pull now. The plan is to use the motor for my VR4 with 0psi compression in the front bank, and sell the rest of the car. I will be replacing all timing parts and a few other things.

  • i agree. retighten it.

  • I picked up the car after someone else wrecked it, so I don't know the history. I've heard of people replacing the belt, but not the tensioner...so I'd guess that's what happened and it's a collapsed tensioner.

I'd heard there should be some play in this area, but this seemed excessive.

  • Never heard of that!, The back side rotates toward the crank, it should be tight.

  • there shouldnt be much play in your timing belt, because if it jumps even a half of tooth you might smash your valves, check the belt tensionerto see if its still good also try to remember the last time you performed the 60k service
