  • I don't know why they don't play this at Christmas time anymore. :(

  • I saw this movie one time when I was broadcast in the 70's. I would love love to get a copy of it, just for the sake of nostalgia! KIngscrown25. I'll pay you to send me a copy. :-)

  • @stevesalyer you can get it on amazon. That is where i got mine.Love this movie.

  • Truthfully, It's a wonderful Life was kind of a lost classic when this movie was made. It wasnt until the 1980's with repeated showings on locall stations that the original film became a classic(the copyright had run out and the film was in the public domain). This was the first version I saw. I had never seen the original until a couple of years later when it aired late on our PBS station.

  • this was just weird ?

  • It was made for TV movie....but I have a DVD of it...commercial free!

  • This movie used to be played every Christmas. It's very hard to find now....this final scene moves me to tears every time! How wonderful to realize that we all affect and touch the lives of so many! To realize the joy that our own life was truly worth living.

  • It's a wonderful life came out before my time so i don't remember it but this one i watched every year as a kid with my Mom. I'll have to check the other one out but i know because it was something i shared with my Mom I'll still like it best because of the memories.

  • Not even close to the original. There are some classics that should just be left as classics!

  • Not even in the same galaxy as the original.

Those who say this was the same or better than the original, should actually watch the original.

  • @tamato43 Watching this is just watching people recite the lines from the original.

  • It's not often that they can do this and make it work again. Marlo Thomas great in this as was Jimmy Stewart in the original.

  • You can't just put anyone in a great role.

Thomas-- she's not believable as personally "invested" in the S&L or the role.

Rogers-- stick to MASH, you don't play a good wife.

Leachman-- what were you doing in this? and what was that accent?

Welles-- someone should have woken him up.

Guest-- played a great wimpy dolt. oh wait.. he's supposed to be a hero.

supporting cast-- most just drifted by. unlike the original where they added real character to the movie & you believed they care about George.

  • even ugly babies are loved by someone but how in god's name some of you think this thing is anywhere equal to or better than "wonderful life", is beyond me.

i am glad i watched it though, in order to appreciate than not just anyone can make a good movie & not just anyone can make a role great.

if you're going to put yourself up for comparison to a classic, you better do it well or different enough to make it your own. This movie does neither.

I read that this was just an ego trip for Thomas.

  • Pete was not played by C Thomas Howell. Someone made a mistake on that since he wasn't even acting in 1977. Pete was played by 70s child actor David Hollander. Does anyone know who played Susie? She looks familiar from other shows.

  • My favorite TV movie ever. It should be released on DVD. Heck, I have only seen it once on a cable channel this last decade or so.

  • THIS IS BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL. WITH THOMAS AND WELLES AND LEACHMAN AND WAYNE ROGERS AT THE HELM, IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS:)!

  • Reading how many viewers are inquiring on the whereabouts of this film and how they may buy a copy I can only add that I have never read this much of a loyalty to the original that for a decade was forced down peoples throats, now I say it was watchable but the acting in the Marlo Thomas version was a ten.

  • Iam 56 years old sssaw this before jimmie stewart version marlo totally outperforms mr stewart she was made for this part. i say this movie is my alltime favorite Christmas movie , marlo thomas and the soundtrack are memorable

  • This was one of my Favorite movies EVER!!!

    better than the original !!!

Does anyone know where I can get a copy?

  • When I first saw this movie, I had never seen the original with J. Stewart. When I finally did see the original, I thought this one was SOOOOO much better! After all the original was b&w so my opinion was how could it possibly top the color version? It all depends on which one you seen first. This aired for 3 Christmas's in a row then was dropped when the classic resurfaced. Leachman was nominated for an Emmy for this. Orson Welles was perfect casting as Potter (decades before Harry.)

  • classic cinema movies dot com 14.95

silver age movies dot com 12.99

    crafts classics dot com 10.95

  • I liked this better than Its A Wonderful LIfe.

  • I loved this movie. Would be great to see the whole thing again

  • Anyone know where i can get a copy of this please??? Looking for a region 0 dvd. thank you. Brilliant upload!!!!

  • wheres tommy?

  • this looks like crap. the original is 1000x better

  • I saw this as a wee kid and for YEARS had no idea there was an original!

  • @mcclainx --- hahaha! when did you find out?!? xox P

  • @maxmillion99

When I saw the movie "Gremlins", there was a clip from IAWL that was exaaaaaaaactly like IHOC. I was perplexed. I went home and asked my Mom about it and she said, "Oh yeah, It Happened One Christmas" was a remake. Jimmy Stewart was in the original. Jimmy Stewart? Jimmy Stewart?!?! Harvey the Rabbit as Mary Bailey?!?! I couldn't see it. Refused to for years out of stubbornness. Such is the power of childhood connection to sentiment. :)

  • @mcclainx -- LOVE it! It's Harvey the Rabbit, for crying out loud! xox P

  • Thanks so much for posting. Would love to see the whole thing someday!

  • One of my all time favorites...Thanks for posting!

  • I saw this when it came out and I love Marlo Thomas but she just doesn't cut it here. Only Jimmy Stewart and Frank Capra could pull this off. When Jimmy Stewart is yelling at Uncle Billy you feel his despair but when Marlo does it she just comes off as mean.

  • I bought a copy on sell.com for about $15.00 and it was for the whole 109 minutes and the quality was 8.5 out of 10

  • HI can anyone tell me where i can buy this movie online? it's one of my favorites...

  • It just doesn't work with a female lead.

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS VIDEO. IT IS OUT OF PRINT AND VERY RARE. IT BROUGHT BACK SO MANY MEMORIES; THANKS AGAIN:)~!

  • I saw this before the Jimmy Stewart version too back in the 70's and I loved it. You are right....Christmas was really Christmas. We didn't have all that political correctness invading it. I love Marlo Thomas too. I wish I could get a copy of this. I wish the full version was on here. Thank you for posting this....

  • Thanks for posting. I saw this movie on tv in the late 70's. Some here feel this version isn't worthy..Of course that's your business, but don't make such a fuss. Wish I could find a copy. I love Marlo and Christmas movies, just watching the ending gave me goose bumps. Thanks so much..

  • Do u know where can I get a copy of that???

Even on Amazon.com I could not find any...

  • Awful as "compared" to "It's a Wonderful Life". Sorry but having a woman doing the man's part in the 1930's just does work. No Jimmy Stewart here. Should have written a new story instead of copying a classic. Will always lose and look bad.

  • I just wanna see C. Thomas Howell!!

  • A awful remake. Burn it.

  • @dahsuerk What are you talking about? It was a pretty good movie. IF you got nothing nice to say just don't say it at all, no need to be an ignorant child about it

  • OH my word....I saw this on TV back in the 70's....back when Christmas was Christmas. Thank you so much for posting this, you made a middle aged man smile :)

  • Thanks for your thoughts Garthrussel, Christmas was really Christmas back then and this film was great.

  • Thank you so much for this uploading ! I saw this film for the first time on Xmas 1979 and it's part of so many good memories ! I wish I could find the whole film and upload it !

  • HAha, Christopher Guest of "Spinal Tap" and "Best In Show" is Harry Bailey.

  • I think this is a hideous version. There is no comparison to the original and Marlo Thomas is NO James Stewart. This just makes me cringe. I wanted to see it again just to see if I had the same reaction...to give it another chance as everyone deserves that...but it just makes me SO mad. There are some movies that just should not be remade and It's a Wonderful Life is one of them.

  • It makes you "mad"?! Jeez. Relax, it's just a movie, not a personal assault.

  • Orson Welles as Potter was a nice touch.

  • both me and my sister love the movie...thank you for this upload......a lovely one.......

  • i wish Marlo Thomas would sell this and give the proceeds too St. Jude Hospital. I know there are millions that would love too add it to there movie collection at home. It also would make a great gift, anytime of the year.

  • well said!

  • I saw this before I saw "It's a Wonderful Life," too. I loved it at the time... think I was eleven years old. Of course, looking back at this clip, it can't hold a candle to the original. It's kind of weird that they virtually used the script verbatim from the original. It can't help but invite comparision.

  • I was 6 when this came out. I think I first saw the movie on Disney Channel & so

I saw this before I knew of the original

    movie too.:)

  • i also love this movie why can't we find the place where we can get a copy of this

  • Some films get shown every year. Why not this one?

  • I LOVE this version of the classic "It's a Wonderful Life" Marlo Thomas is awesome in this role. Does anyone know where I can buy a copy of this movie? Thanks

  • My family taped this from tv to our top loader VCR back in the early 80's. I still have it. Great re-make of the classic "It's a Wonderful Life". I actally like this version better.

  • I think C Thomas Howell is the kid who plays Pete.

  • thank you.....i would love to see this whole movie again.....

  • I can't find C Thomas Howell in this can some one point out were he is in this?!

  • I remember seeing this version as a kid on TV before I even knew it was a remake. I still love this version more! I think it was one of the first things my family ever recorded on our top-load VCR.

  • where can i get a copy of this movie ??? I love Marlo and have always loved this movie !!

  • All I can say is..Officer don't ask what happened to

    her..You wouldn't believe it.

  • ponyboychick its c. thomas howell, not thomas c howell

and i think hes in the part of this when the little kids come running down the stairs, but idk

  • I love this movie and watch it every Christmas. Luckily I taped it back in 1985 when it aired on a local station. Great actors in this from Marlo Tomas to the wonderful Orson Welles as Mr Poter. Thanks for the post!

  • Where can i get a copy of this movie...it is better than Wonderful life...why don't they reissue this!?

  • Does anyone have a copy of the full length movie? My Mother would really enjoy seeing this again, so would I. Happy Holidays!

  • This is a re-make of It's a Wonderful Life.

With the characters of Mary and George was reveresed!

  • Where is Thomas C Howell? I thoight they said Thomas C Howell was in this!

  • Guess what kids? We're going to watch "It's a Wonderful Life"...except...it's the one with Marlo Thomas.

  • I'd love to see all of this...but I've been a big fan of the original for years, and I'm sure that'd color my views of this re-make.

  • Richard Dysart is great in this movie! But of course: He's always great!

  • I love Wayne Rogers! He is so hot!

  • Is this on video--I would love to see the whole film.

  • AWW! That was him at 5:28. AWW!!! He was so frikin' cute

  • I love this movie too. It stayed it my heart. I know where you can get it.

  • Where can I find this movie? I loved it as a child and my Mother would be so surprised to see it again. re:"It Happened One Christmas"

  • This was a very memorable film for me. Unfortunately, they only showed it once in ABC. I also saw this movie, It Happened One Christmas, before I saw the movie, It's a Wonderful Life". Marlo Thomas has so much charm and spunk that she made this film uplifting and great.

  • Ditto. As a kid, I saw this movie before I saw the original. I remember thinking "Best movie ever! How come everybody doesn't know about this?" I had no idea it was a remake. When I saw the original a couple of years later, I loved it too, of course. But I'll never forget sitting there as a kid--just me, our TV, and this movie.

  • Is C. Thomas Howell that real small kid shown at.. 5:28?

  • wheres c. thomas howell lol

  • Dear Classic TV fan:

I don't know who you are, but you just made my LIFE! I saw this version BEFORE ever seeing the Capra classic and since then I have been a lifelong devotee of Marlo Thomas - this is the loveliest, most moving performance I think I have ever seen on TV - did she win an Emmy! And I don't have a copy of it! Is is available on either video or DVD. Let me know. Again, THANK YOU!!!!

    Craig (dirktrevor)

  • Marlo Thomas didn't win an Emmy, but Cloris Leachman was nominated.
