  • uhh i was just watching videos for nostalgia and i find out i have something like $350 of saturn games in my locker.. nice

  • ey miau wer will camen

  • For 12 years, I dream of a continued ...:(

  • Never got to play this, but i do remember they would compare this to FFVII. This never got the same attention as FFVII probably cuz it was on the less popular Saturn.

  • I didn't bother paying $200+ for this game. I bought the Japanese version for way less and I find it very playable. Sure you might miss out on the story but that's what videos are for. I play this game for its battle system and atmosphere. Figuring out the item list and menus wasn't difficult at all.

  • I thought my mint condition suikoden 2 game was worth cash, this bitch is 300 bucks on ebay for a used copy!

  • @xmagicxx01 Yeah, I'm pissed I returned my copy after finishing it in the 90's.

  • is it possible to get this on a emulater?

  • You named the dragon "Trogdor"?

    WIN!

  • Never played this game but I do own a sega saturn... I play world series baseball 1 and 2 on it and LOVE the game.... Saturn is a cool little system.... I looked up this game on ebay and it's going for dam near 300 dollars!! DAM!!! One of these day's I'll try to find a copy....

  • For those who don't know, Edge's voice actor also plays Gaara, and Gash's voice actor is Jiraiya (both from Naruto)

  • THIS GAME NEEDS A RE-RELEASE, I only ever found the demo disc, I mean DAMN If they can do Panzer Dragoon on XBOX Then they can make another 'SAGA' right people??

  • @panthakurai

Sega lost the source code for the 'PD Saga' so no imports are possible on current consoles. They'd have to start from scratch, and I doubt they have the money or the incentive to do that. Also Team Andromeda developed PD I and II and Saga and they disbanded after this game. Shame, as this was a fantastic game.

  • did anyone every play the mini-games? After defeating the game you had minigames.

  • @freeman8201 I did :D...And I've the game at 100% on everything (it was not easy).

  • @darktiger888 What was up with those baby dragons in the mini game?

  • @freeman8201 Nothing I guess. It's just for passing time and to enjoy the litle ones, since you can only see one of them flying around with your dragon until you get the solo wing. So, I guess it's just for fun and nostalgic purposes. And yes, getting the game at 100% on everything is not as easy as many people may think.

  • They're working on Project Draco for Kinect.

  • they should bring this back and make it like riegn on playstation 3 well just the being able to go anywhere part

  • A TRUE MASTERPIECE, SEGA AT THE TOP OF ITS GAME, A TRUE CLASSIC IN EVERY RESPECT, IF ONLY SEGA PRODUCED TITLES OF THIS QUALITY NOW DAYS, SHENMUE 3 ANYONE ?

  • such a rare game over $200+ for each copy. your lucky.

  • Drunk off 7up!? What kind of trickery is this!? All jokes aside, this game is amazing. I remember playing this when I was a kid and being upset when I had to get rid of the saturn.

  • Simply one of the greatest videogame experiences you can have, its a shame this game has not had the exposure it deserves, due to the saturn only format. There is a great story to this game,a fantastic world to explore, very unique itself.Great visuals and one of the best soundtracks you will ever hear! If you liked Final Fantasy 7(the best one)you will love this,a similar game in scope and size, both with great storytelling and charectors. Easily a 10/10.

  • or you could per se emulate it.

  • I consider Panzer Dragoon Saga the " Blade Runner " of videogames. It's atmosphere, characters, and plot are unlike anything I've ever seen. Metaphorically, this game is like one of the most beautiful shooting stars that soared across the sky while the majority of the world's population never got to witness it. However, for those of us that did, it's simply impossible to forget.

  • please make a PS3 disk with Saturn classics SEGA...

  • @drewskione Its not going to happen. SEGA maintains a strict patent on Saturn and continues to protect its trademark.

  • @Tornado1994 No, drew is on to something. I don't know about the U.S. market, but the japanese get to enjoy Sega classics compilations on PS3 disks, but I've only seen lesser Sega games re-released. Sadly, it's been said around the net, that the original source code has been lost... it's too bad.

If this is true, this game will never be seen anywhere other than Saturn, it's a shame.

  • @junkshun626 That's only because the Saturn was very successful in Japan and SEGA of Japan premits free use and resale of its IPs. In fact for 10 years, Saturn games were actaully sold in vending machines!

  • This game ruined RPGs for me forever. I probably would haveloved other RPGs a lot more if I didn't know a game like PDS could exist.

Also, is that comix zone music I hear? thumbs up for that!

  • @Sinnical Same happened to me. The combat mechanics, storyline and artistic direction in Saga are so unique that I simply lost my interest on other rpgs. And now I just remembered I still haven't played Orta. I'll probably buy a Xbox just to play that.

  • right now on ebay i saw it for $200+ almost to $500, and someone have it seal it, and they are selling it for $1000. i never got to play it. thank God there is emulators :D

  • @CaptainCrunchityzer He made it free, you good a hacking these old consoles, I would be scared incase I fked the thing up lol. Heres some good games you should check out for the console if you get it sorted out... Deep Fear (would go for the import) Panzer dragoon saga Resident evil Dark seed (import) NiGHTS C&C3 Dark savior Shining force 3 Shining the holy Ark The of the dead Alien trilogy Quake
  • @steve5123456789 C&C1 sorry lol not tiberian wars it was not that advanced lol; what sort of games you like, fighting, rts, shooters, rgs?

  • @CaptainCrunchityzer I met a mate who works in trade you could get one off him for a great price; its where I got mine from, I got some amazing games I sometimes think he is retarded for the great deals I got off him, got a dreamcast in excellent condition for £25 with a pad and cables, plus phantasy star in new condition, I will ask him if you like if hes got any left, and the action replay I got it for £19 new off amazon I guess its pretty good price, I could tell you some good games aswell.

  • @CaptainCrunchityzer Just came out on psn, and xbox arcade didn't it?

  • @CaptainCrunchityzer I don't know it isn't the same, theres loads of great games, I was like you; only reason I bought it was because of House of the dead 1 my all time fravourite, and the doors suddenly opened up, you should get one ill give you 12 excellent games you should get.

  • @CaptainCrunchityzer It feels good, and so dirty :) treat your self.

  • another thing... only 25 copyes of this game came to my country.... and i have one... hahahahahahah

  • this is is the game that made like the rpg games.... total classic

  • 5:30 The dragon must be male. We tend to show affection by impaling girls with our horn.

  • oh i remember this my better playing times...

  • Panzer Dragoon

    Panzer Dragoon Zwei

    Panzer Dragoon Saga

    Panzer Dragoon Orta

Highly artistic games with heart and soul

FF series can kiss my ass

  • Wow, within two minutes there's a huge ending spoiler. Granted it's the sort of thing you suspect by the end of the beginning cutscene, but 30 hours later you'll most certainly have forgotten about it.

  • @skoi87 Remakes don't use the old code, that's why they're called "remakes".

Anyway, Gametap owns the rights and could put it on their service if enough people were interested.

  • @skoi87 that´s true. I saw an interview where they said that

  • I went out and brought this game after watching this video! i got it for about £100 on ebay and i can honestly say it was money well spent! one of the best games ive ever played! Shame there is nothing like this these days! sega should concentrate on making more games like this!

  • Finished the game and loved it from start to finish, i actually look forward to playing it again, unlike nothing else just a really orginal game! amazing! sega can create some amazing games!

  • Best RPG ever in terms of ambiance and overall too.

    1st . Panzer dragoon Saga

    2nd. Shining force 3 and FF7

  • for the fanboy like me, the seiyuu who dub the voice of " Azel " is also the great j pop singer Maaya Sakamoto !!! ^^

  • this game cannot go out of my head, it was a shock for me more than Shenmue, the freedom of move and the Morphing of the dragoon is awesome unfortunatly we cannot have this quality on today game, check this list on saturn , there was Radiant silver gun, wachenroder and plenty of kick ass RPG like Grandia, Wachenroder etc it's just awesome, in europe we just have the bad game, it was a miracle that Panzer dragoon RPG released in europe.

  • wow nice use of comix zone music

  • And they said Final Fantasy 7 had the best graphics ever back in the day.......those fanboys obviously never played a Sega Saturn.

  • @CorvetteCoonass Panzer Dragoon Saga is an excellent example of the Saturn's superior processing power over PSone. The Saturn was FAR more capable than PSone in every way.

  • @Tornado1994 It's just sad that from what i've read it was extremely complex and expensive to develop for :(

  • @ShadicPT It actually had a fairly mid range development cost budget. And yes it was quite difficult and complex to program.

  • I played this game because of your review. Thanks. Great game and excellent review.

  • Best fucking game on theSega Saturn to date!!!

  • @DragoonWarlord64 grandia and suikoden as well XD

  • I had this game for years in mint condition because our Saturn broke. I didnt no how sought after this game was so i sold it for £130. not bad

  • Very toughtful review. Many thanks. I wish I got this game when it was available.

  • i want this game but its only on line and its to exspensive for a old game on a obsalet console $200 is redickulas and not worth it no mater how rare it is its fucking bullshit the only way i can play it is on a emulater but i cant get the saturn or any other cd rom emul to work it requirs exstra programes like a ios and so and if it dose work will the 3d grathics work on my computer or will hae cliping and mising backgrounds?

  • let me just say that this game is probably the only rpg i have ever enjoyed. i just can't get into the final fantasy games, they're unbaribley boring in my opinion. but this peice of gamer gold. this game is so good, not having a true sequel just seems right. i mean look at journey of dreams, that game basically made a true nights sequel less likely than before.

  • They could remake it again, with better graphics, same story and on all the consols and PC... then.. I would kill ANYONE to get this game. It is just so amazing that if I think about it I shiver from hapiness.

  • @CoolDude420xxx

have you played this shit? oh thats right, you can only afford superman 64

  • Excellent - that was so cool to watch - thanks .

  • @DawnOfTherion

Jesus DofT, have a little self respect. You're only embarrassing yourself .

  • ill sell you mine for 250 us dollars a deal?

  • Good footage and commentary, but One Winged Angel NEVER was what people made it out to be. I consider it vastly overrated for what little that track offers.

  • I can tell everybody. This is a great, great game. there are very few things like it. The Grephics are clean and very impressive. Sadley i had to sell and give awaey all my Videogames a couple of years ago. I didn´t have space for it. I can tell you all that the only system i miss - is Sega Saturn and all games i had for it. The playstation 1 & 2. Nintendo 64 it´s alright but i don´t miss them. you play them for a year. and then you can just throw it away. sega saturn never got me borred!

  • Hope you got a good price for it.

I was actually considering getting a used Saturn, considering they're dirt cheap. For now, I'm settling for the SSF emu. They've actually made some really good advances with that emu, although it's done entirely in software meaning lots of aliasing..

  • @xirux01

i must say, the graphics aren't the best, but one thing i have noticed about saturn games that arguabley makes them more beautiful than any other console's during that generation was the blend of 2-d and 3-d. i mean, you look at a screen shot of pds, and it seems fully 3-d, look closer and you see that the 3-d is made up entirley of 2-d. this is something not found on n64 or playstation.

  • @mat7540 well if you look at the racers on Mario Kart 64 closely they're not true 3D either. Although N64 didn't have that beautiful blend quite as often, it did occur sometimes.

  • @MrEnigmaStatus you should put it on Ebay as its a rare Saturn title much sort after and you will get way more than $20 for it, take a look on ebay yourself and you will get an idea of its worth,,

  • i can tell you this. It´s 3D all the way. I never had a game for Sega Saturn that was 2D. Look at Sonic R and i hade about thirty games to the system. And to put N64 and PS1 in the same sentence as Sega Saturn. Sega Saturn was so much bether. I had sega saturn, Ps1, Ps 2, N64, Mega Drive,Dreamcast and many more. so i know which of them are the best.but i bought the sega saturn before the PS1 and N64 so when i played n64, and ps1 i got a bit Disappointed on ps1 and N64, the graphics was awful

  • Only 25 units of pds arrived in Portugal... and I have one of them... some friends offered lots of money for it and I always say no

  • i love this game..still own it but dont have a sega saturn anymore :(

  • Nice! If I were you,I would give it to me!

  • then go use emulators!

  • Got the demo disc of this game not so long ago so am looking foward to playing through first part of it

  • This game is simplily awsome in very single way,

The graphices, the sondtrancks, gameplay, story

    everything!

wanna know how much this game costs in europe??

    its about 150€

its very rare to find one, and i have brought 1 that was only played 2 times in more than 10 years, i have 2 panzer draggon saga games. they are simply the best game ever made!!

  • nice review, most awesome game, love it. IIRC the language they used throughout the game was a fantasy mixture of Japanese, Latin and German.

  • i wonder if some day the saga continues!?!

  • Add Shining Force 3, Shining the holy ark, Dragon Force, Virtua Fighter 2 and Blazing heroes and you've got the Ultimate Saturn Collection.

  • dont forget guardian heroes and radiant silvergun.

  • That's it I'm in love !

  • just type 220467476749into ebay.....thats the item number.iv just put it up today on a 3 day auction

  • Best 32 bit game in existence. Best soundtrack on any game.

  • At the minute i am selling my PAL copy of this game on ebay. Its in excellent condition.(pics available)Heres your chance to grab a copy of this excellent RARE collectors RPG for the saturn

  • @psynema i say best game ever in existance , i sold mine for 300 on ebay a few years ago and i really wish i didnt i regret it i should have kept the game

  • @gqunit69 Ditto, but I think I only got 190 in 2004 for it. WHAT IRKS me is back in 1998, Toys R US had a SLEW OF THEM for $20 each...AHHHHHH...damn hindsight

  • Again, thanks - I've already got ahold of Dragon Force and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Japanese version), so I'll keep these others in mind. :-)

  • Cool review. I owned this game back in the day. Some of my other favs for the system included Burning Rangers, SF3, Shining the Holy Ark, a few others. I wish I hadn't sold it all way back then. I had no idea how much they would sell for these days...

  • I'm thinking about buying a Sega Saturn - can anyone reccomend any games? QWith the exception of Mr4. Bones, which I played years ago, I really don't know where to start.

Oh, hey Cybercat! Look at that, didn't expect to see her outside of the Silent Hill reviews. That's pretty cool. :-)

  • just get a modchip and play any game you like...

  • Thanks, I've actually got something lined up right now that allows for play of both Japanese and American Saturn games...I'm probably gonna buy that. :-)

  • That will definetly help , but just in case you don't know : the modchip allows you to play backups that you can download for free over the internet.

About the best saturn games , check out racket boy's web site(google this :"The bes sega saturn games for today").

And if you're looking for an online site to buy a modchip , just let me know and i will pm you.

  • Dragon Force was probably one of the best games that was released on the Saturn.

  • Thank you...I'm putting together a birthday gift for my son, and he's into older console games, so that's definitely a help to me. :-)

  • I burned it..

  • TROGDOR THE BURNINATOR!!!!!!!

  • "Burninating all the people, burninating the peasants" TROGDOR!

  • cool game bro

never played this one only first and xbox one

  • i got this game when it was released and i still have it in mint condition. disk 1 is still in my saturn.

  • Me to, ha ha. Mainly cause I've been away from saturn for a while, So I have just watched the opening into like 6 times. It's really works me up when I think of the long journey I took with this game 2 years ago. Once you been through it all, you can really understand the into and just relax and let your thoughts remember whatever they can about your trip through the greatest 32bit game ever made. IMO

  • I feel lucky to own a saturn.

  • I just bought this a few weeks ago (been after a copy for ages) and even though it wasn`t cheap ,I got a good deal it cost me with postage a total of about £70 UK pounds (Approx $165 US ) Now I hope I enjoy it! LOL, good review BTW

  • Great review for one of the greatest games of all time. Like the lady says, "don't care how much it costs, just buy it!" If you consider yourself a real RPG fanatic buy a Saturn and this game off EBAY and (if you really can't afford it) sell them when you are done.

  • Panzer Dragoon Saga doesn't work that way.

  • when i was 15 & the saturn was just going under i went to the videogame store to find a copy of burning rangers. i had burning rangers in my hand & out of the blue i asked "you don't by any chance have a copy of panzer dragoon saga?" and the clerk guy was like "uh...actually yeah someone just returned a copy today." other than the dumbass writing 'used' in black marker over each disk of the game and on the box art's barcode, i got my perfect copy of PDS for 30 bucks albeit 11 years ago.

  • Comment removed

  • wow!!!! I Paid $165 !!! lucky you.....

  • @paulspydar actually I over calculated £70 GBP = $112.73c US

  • Sega should make a sequel for the current gen somewhat like what Square did with FF7 compared to previous games--better engine, and taking elements from previous games, while having everything else new (setting, characters, etc...)

  • Well the Rumor is it hasn't happened because they lost the code

  • woah! if true, it'd put sega on a whole new level of FAIL.

  • it's true wiki it people died and whatnot also lol i'm on the 3rd CD right now playing on something I won't mention here(but you can guess lol) it really is a great game XD

  • they did release Panzer dragoon orta for the xbox

  • it was a very good game, but somehow it didn't sell well enough to warrant reasonably timed sequels.

  • thanks ,but I don`t understand why you told me that?

  • In an ideal world, we would get a full blown sequel.

    *sigh*

  • you don't wanna see that. they'd just mess it up the way sega is now. its not the same company/quailty of workers. smilebit did a taught and beautiful job with the last game, but it just didn't have as much substance and sincerity as PDS. was perfect fan service though.

  • Yeah, another sad thing is that Smilebit were merged into Sega's first party after the deal with Sammy, I wouldn't be surprised if most of the staff were laid off since this whole recession thing seen as we haven't seen anything from them since the Xbox era. Stuff from Smilebit such as PD Orta, JSR Future and Gunvalkyrie, although really good, was generally high budget and didnt make much of a profit. Xbox users were too busy playing Halo and Splinter Cell. >:-(

  • And the trogdor flue in the Niiight!

  • I got this game for $12.99 at goodwill, LOL

its used but good condition. I'm selling it on ebay right now

I know some kid's dumbass mom was just like "He never plays these old games anymore, I'm giving them away."

  • WOW, that is one HELL of a lucky find!

  • i paid $150 for mine!!

  • but

    why is it so good?

and why is it so expensive!?

  • The controls and menus are intuitive / well designed. Character development is high. Overall a highly atmospheric game. Original and solid battle system. Lots of weapons / items; dragon has robust list of special moves. Dragon can be morphed, and also has a few special forms that can be attained late-game. Hidden stuff. Great music as usual. Good use of color, etc. Lots of places to explore. Strong story. Good controls, fine camera. Whole dragon rider theme is always nice. (cont.) --->

  • Night / day feature, which plays into the game at times. Nice bosses / boss battles. Monster list / "hidden monsters". Mild puzzle / maze stuff. Anyway, I could probably list a number of other things that make this game good, but the best parts about it are music & highly atmospheric feeling. I actually fell asleep in the desert area early in the game on two separate occasions, not because I was really tired but because the music and visual is so soothing, lol. (cont.) --->

  • I suppose there are a few reasons why it's so expensive. 1) The code for the game is gone forever = no remakes = value is greater. 2) It qualifies as one of the best games ever made; easily one of the best RPG's ever made. 3) It's part of a series of games -- a series that has "cult" following, thus it is kind of a collectors item. I was getting EGM magazine when it came out, and they almost gave it perfect 10's. Anyway, hope that helped.

  • all your info is correct and seconded, good sir

  • thanks

  • The main reason for the high price is because it was one of the last games to come out for the Saturn, so they made a limited number of copies.

  • that's also accurate, the day it came out i was on the biggest supermarket on this town and it had only two copies of PDS (and one it's still with me), that turns the game rare right in its launch day.

  • the drafons name was trogdor THE BURNINATOR!

  • Wheee1 I'm getting this game for christmas! cant wait!

  • You won't be disappointed.

  • Man...this game is so expensive

  • This is THE GEM of

    all the RPG history.

  • did that say trogdor???

  • Tomorrow I will buy oh.. I mean TODAY I will buy the European Sega Saturn A Memory Pack EU (ofcourse) And the European Edition of Panzer Dragoon Saga.. For 300 Euro. That is like 150 for each. Okay The 150 for the Saturn is a little to high but man i want to play this game... Nice Review there! Good to know there still lovers hooked on it :D. Became a fan since Orta. Just like the story line so much drama and action. And the characters are like literaly: PEW PEW KAII ACTION GUYS NOW!

  • I know you posted that comment a month ago, but you really should know this. You're far better off getting an American or Japanese Saturn with an Action Replay as the European version of Panzer Dragoon Saga is the only EU Saturn game that runs at 60hz (this is because they rush-released it), which makes it glitchy and buggy on a PAL system which only outputs at 50hz.

  • As cool as it would be to own this classic. I just can't justify spending £100. What with the global credit crunch and all....

  • I actually agree. I think, for the most part, I was just trying to be funny. I wouldn't pay that much for a game either =P

  • zelda ocrania of time was out the same year 1999 and this game is a little better no offense to zelda fan im one.

  • I completely agree with this review. I loved this game. Got it back in 1999 for £20, there were 2 copies, in hindsight I should've got both. If only I knew I could ebay it for a lot more a few years later. LOL. I still have my copy of it, I will never sell it. I even have the "demo disc" from the UK Sega Saturn magazine which was the full first disc for the game.

It's also one of my favourite games ever, has some of the greatest game music ever in my opinion.

I should play this again sometime.

  • I own it, i bought it in 1998 summer, and sincerely i insta-forgot the final fantasy VII hype. Too sad ppl wont give it a chance today.

  • I just got a copy for $150 it had everything apart from the cardboard sleeve.

  • i buy it from ebay before 3 days!! XD

  • Trogdor? STRONG BAD REFRENCE FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • good video! good video!

    12years ago,I played this game.

    I hope remake to Xbox360.

  • the game is only 10 years old...

  • Yes! that's right.

    my mistake.

Perhaps I was mistaken for zwai.

  • This game is worth every penny I spent for it. I had no idea it was going to be that good.

  • PANZER DRAGOON Was 1 of my first games for the PC...And its F*****G Awesome....a never had the chanse to play panzer 2,saga or the new one for the X box...:(

You ROCK GIRL!! keep reviewing games...

  • that game...is WAY too expensive

  • Best game I've ever played. I picked it up for free when I worked on my local market and couldn't believe how lucky I was.

Great game, great story, great graphics for its time. I cannot flaw anything with it. (The only flaw now is that my Saturn no longer works) :(

  • I never had a saturn so I never played this game but quite enjoyed legend of dragoon on ps1 the two games aren't related are they, I wouldn't know having never played this, but they look completely different

  • No, they're not related.

  • Well, this game might just be the most expensive on the Market. New on Amazon it costs $450. Ouch. Xenogears, Persona 2 and Final Fantasy 7 all put together couldn't beat that.

  • So many great memories I have from the time I was playing this as a kid. I was like obsessed with it and tried to beat it as fast as I could. I remember my dragon being built like a tank, lmao! Seriously though one of the most amazing games I've ever played.

  • this game is really awsome. The hisotry of Edge and all history of Panzer Dragoon is well planed.

Besides I played it for 10 times and all the time I LIKE IT!

  • this game needs to be ported to ps2 or wii virtual console.

  • Someone needs to start a petition for it.

  • They lost the code from the game. As so they want us to think....

  • Looking at this game,i like this

  • great review. I lost my fourth cd, damm

  • nice raziel figure in the background
