no offense its a great video, but this is not autoland. fsx does not have a cat III which would be an autoland. in here, you must disengage AP at DH, or usually 200 feet and flare the aircraft yourself. if u leave autopilot on it will slam you into the ground. a REAL autoland would do the flaring and gentle touchdown for you. this is called an ILS CAT II approach. great vid though! If I were you, Id Learn how to FLY first then Landing Later On, since in FS you can always Crash and Start again...unlike in Real Life Scenerio.

Learning to Fly is Easy, but Landing is an Issue, even myself I'm experiencing issues, I have completed a manual landing today and I was so Excited...hoping to learn how to ILS..

In PMDG FMC Select Sid/star for landing then confirm the action and thats it then it would utmoaticly come up.

You could use your GPS onto nav hold, it lines u up, then you disangage Autopilot and so a manual landing...or ILS:) hope it helps!

Hi mate can you help ive got a big problem with the PMDG 747 Autopilot, when im changing a dial e.g altitude it will only go one way. I can increase it only decrese (varies on what the dial controls) and i really want to fly this beast. Im running FSX SP2.

Flaps, yes. Speed, maybe. You could do as I did and use the autothrottle up until a few hundred feet agl. Or you could just manually control it.

@theflea912 You can have the auto throttle control it all the way until touchdown. If you set final landing flaps and final landing speed, it will be fine, once you land just cut the throttle and reverse thrust, simple :)

Not having played in a while, I cant say for sure. But, I believe you could manually set it in the LEGS page of the FMC.

But that begs, the question: why? If you are following a STAR, there is a certain plan that the ATC follows, and that the FMC knows.

Its possible up to a certain amount. I dont know off the top of my head. FS default planes kinda suck at ILS. I would first get some real planes, and as you see, these planes do the roll out, like a real 747.

Yes, and real life planes use ILS approach system very often, and people who play flight simulation, wants as realistic experience as possible... And i think realistic flying is much cooler and more fun than flying some unrealistic default planes whole manual... But i do manual landings very often, too.

They can use ILS whenever the pilot wants to regardless of the weather as long as they inform ATC which has to be OK with it. In fact the autopilots have to perform an autoland every so to keep their validation and certificates that say they can perform an autoland. The weather in this video didn't warrant the use of autoland, a manual landing could have been performed safely and legally.

Fine. Ill be totally honest. The "very boring" part...? Honestly this video has 4 stars. I guess your alone in that belief. Besides... it's autolanding. It's not supposed to be an action pack sequence.

FYI the PAPI in FS9 is terrible. It bases the lights off of where the camera is. And in reality... its called and INSTRUMENT landing system for a reason. I shouldn't need to check the PAPI (only for VFR, and does this look like VFR?) Thanks for the comment tho!

I think the ILS approach feature is all versions fsx, And Auto approach, but manual last land and touchdown you can do much light and better touchdowns...

1whiteiphone, you may be looking for an "Autoland" button but there's none... You must tune the ILS freqeuncy then set the Autopilot to NAV or APP which will guide the plane down to the runway (i tried only with APP)

you must maintain your altitude until it is established on the localizer, then press the APP button and the plane will automatic lined up with the runway and, as you may notice, if you had the ALT button on, it will disengage de ALT and in you PFD you will appear this --> "G/S". it means that the autopilot is taking care of your rate of descent. to make it smoother in the final, just disengage the A/P before you touchdown and make your plane "kiss the runway"!! cheers mate...

depends on loads of stuff. if you have active sky and voz and all sorts of stuff activated and a really shitty computer... than yes. if you have a shitty computer in general your kinda screwed i would think. i have a decent computer, and look at it try to load the plane.
