I was at this show the last show where Danny played Sandy with Bruce. I didn't know the end was so close for Danny. But the song made me cry anyway. It's not the Dancing in the Dark or Glory days that or it for me. It's Sandy or Racing in the street. Been there since the beginning listening to The Promise on Bootleg Studio tracks 20 years before the release.
This must have been so hard, for all of them ,especially for Danny .it brings tears to my eyes when i watch it knowing it will be his last bow in front of an audience. look at bruce his face as well at around 2:40.Brings back memories from the last weeks out of my mother's life who died also of melanoma cancer .the skinny face of Danny with that look into his eyes it throws me back in time and remembers me of those last weeks of my mum when she had about the same look.i'll never forget both you
Danny Federici was an amazing keyboardist. Four years ago he passed away. Rest peacefully my friend. For on behalf of Bruce, Max, Steven and the gang, you're still remembered.
With Bruce Springsteen by your side - that rock'n'roll nature force-, even though you know you're gonna die - as all of us -, you must feel inmortal. In fact, you are, R.I.P. Danny Federici.
I've seen Bruce a dozen times. I even shook his hand once but my favorite moment, that I wish BRUCE could've seen, was the red headed kid, early 30's, in a green Tshirt, way up in the stands near me, dancing an old Irish jig to this song. Just a magical moment I'll never forget!
GREAT BRUCE VIDEO!! I have a teen-oriented, hockey themed book coming out in October which has over 25 Bruce song and characters from Bruce songs, references (the hockey team is named the Magic Rats, the lead character plays hockey "undeneath Abrams Bridge" etc)!!
I did a promo video for the book and you can see the video by just clicking on my name.
When you loose people like this - we loose a little of our collective soul as a species. Rest in Peace - Danny, Heath, Steve and the various other great talents who we have lost in the past too . you guys are missed
When I read this for the first time a couple of weeks ago, I was a long way from home in another part of the country. When you've followed a band for the last 3/5ths of your life (since 1985), it resonates with you.
Down here in Australia we've lost Heath Ledger and Steve Irwin in less than 18 months. Both of them very relatable and great guys. So for Springsteen fans here, it's all a bit much sometimes. I hope things quieten down and we don't lose anymore great people for a while yet.
I guess it's just the optimist in me, but I hope this isn't the end. I saw these guys in Charlotte, NC this week and they rocked harder than ever - it was amazing. Danny was missing, but he was still a big part of the show...
primitivlink: Good post. Sad, and depressing, but true. Bruce & the boys started us off w/ "Greetings" in January of '73. Now, it looks like the E Streeters will disappear w/ "Magic" in '08. My God...My God...they sure were friggin' awesome in their prime. Nothing will ever EVER touch the "Darkness" tour. God Blessed this Band.
The E Street nation has just taken a big blow. I'm crying and so sad right now. It's like the band of brothers that seemed so unshakeable has just showed it's mortality, and it's scary. We're all human. God bless you Danny, and thank you for everything.
God bless you Phantom Dan. You were the very best there was. My prayers and deep reflections go out to Danny's family and to his extended family, the E Street Band. Rock the heavens, Danny.
Enhorabuena por habernos hecho disfrutar juntos a tus amigos de la E Street Band, la mejor banda de rock de todos los tiempos. Lo he sentido mucho. Desde España
You and Springsteen and company have been the ties that bind for many a year for this Jersey boy living 44 years now on this planet and now on another coast. Thanks for all of your contributions to music and my life. Rock on Danny, rock on.
"Now i'm out here on this road, Alone on this road tonight. Close my eyes and feel so many friends around me. In the early evening light. And for the miles we have come, For the battles won and lost. We've so many roads travelled, So many rivers crossed. And i ask God for the strength, Strength and faith in one another, Cos it's a good night for a ride to cross this river to the other side My blood brother." You've crossed to the other side now, Danny. Rest in Peace.

The look on Bruce's face at 2:43 says it all - his feelings for Danny and the road ahead without him.
Rest peacefully Dan Federici. We think of you always whenever we hear the E Street Band.

I don't think they will ever stop. It's in their blood. I can still see them playing together in 10 years time. Or am I just being optimistic.
