High, fast, well down the runway and trying to force the wheels on the ground. There should have been a voice in his head screaming, GO AROUND, GO AROUND.
It looks like he over-braked in an attempt to make a turn-off. Since they don't show how much runway was remaining, it's hard to know why he would have done this, unless he was just in a huge hurry for some reason and trying to get into the FBO as quickly as possible.
I guess he forgot about the rudder and just went stright to braking hard with both insead of using the right one to keep the nose straight. He almost had it, but it looks like he just panicked and jammed both brakes to stop instead of keeping it straight. Who knows what really happened. I have had several landings in cessnas and lost a brake. Touch it once and it's fine. Touch it the second time and it goes to nothing.
to awnser nc90awd question i would say yes this plane may fly again but only after a complete engine teardown and necessary repairs prop replacement and repairs to the fuselage maybe these repairs will be too expensive for the value of this plane so then this plane may never fly again in that case
with taildragers one can only use the brakes very carefully definetely one cannot apply continuous heavy brake pressure after touchdown elevator can be used maybe a bit to try and keep tail down but only for a while at low airspeed the elevator will not have mucht effect anymore for now i will stick to tricycle landing gear on the aircraft i am taking lessons in
What are you talking about wind? He flipped over because he slowed down to quickly and the momentum of the aircraft caused the tail to flip. It's the equivalent of riding a bike and then jamming the front brakes, so the front stops, but the back keeps moving and flips the bike. Wind had nothing to do with this.
being a taildragger pilot myself, I know that you have to fly from the hangar back to the hangar.....you can't be on the taxi way and look over at your friends because if you do you'll ground loop it.
Ahem... The plane is on the ground or within a few inches of it. There is NO STALL DANGER. Raising the flaps puts increased weight on the mains and makes the brakes much more effective. Up elevator can be applied as needed to keep the tail down - with retracted flaps the plane stays firmly on the ground. I do short field landings in a Super Cub all the time so I know what works. Look up 'short approach' on flighttraining dot aopa dot org.
I just love all the "expert commentary" you can find on a YouTube Video. Everyone is a Know-It-All
" I think his "Reverse-flow-thrust-converter-valve" was deployed to far to the left. That's what caused this one! Yep... I use to put tires on those babys back in the war.....and I know everything about 'em. I'm a YouTube Expert!"
"The brakes are in the rudders" ? No. The brakes are applied when you push forward on the top of the rudder pedals. She did not keep it going straight down the runway and when she saw the side of the runway coming fast she panicked. She fipped over because she applied too much brake right before the tail went up. Bad instructor and woman panic easy.
@bravobravo74 not only laughed at the thud but watch the video again and watch the landing gear, it is so funny watching it wabble as if to say oh no not again lol
dumber than dumb... seriously pitiful piloting .. looks like he saw a chick on the left side of the runway and forgot to slow down before trying to make the turn..
@superhot340 hi there, not to be picky but i think you might be wrong, although you are right about the tail wheel was not settled, from what i saw i think that aircraft's main gear hit the grass on the side of the runway therefore not allowing the aircraft to roll which made it go over it self.
Clearly he tried to take the first taxiway to the left off the runway, over stepped on the brakes, and thus flipped the plane. This is a tail wheel plane, with brakes only on the 2 front wheels, so one must be careful with the brakes!
The AP story that it was a strong wind current is false. This likely was a rookie pilot, used to tricycle type landing gears (i.e. Piper) Or a careless stupid, drunken, pilot. Also, one lands into the wind, so there is no way the wind is going to flip the plane!
@nc90awd Noooooo. With a prop strike, the engine has to be fully overhauled. Then, he must of done some serious damage to the tail, and depending what he landed on, the wings might be damaged. Sometimes when the plane isnt worth a lot, people just part them out, but this one probably will fly again.
from what i can tell and thats not much. looks like left brake locks tries to correct doesnt want to go of the runway locks right brake full back elevator pressure but not good enough. not many schools teach ground looping on purpose. it wouldve saved the aircraft
Your comment led me to believe that you don't know what your talking about...a tail dragger constantly wants to ground loop. Tricycle gear has the weight of the engine on the nose wheel and it goes straight with very little input.
bpbat21; I soloed in a champ. and have a lot of time in J-3's as well as PA-18. I know the difference between a tail drager and a trike, but does not change the fact that you do not stop flying any airplane until it is tied down.
No wind since the plane would have been landing INTO the wind and that wouldn't cause it to flip. It was leaning a bit too much on the brakes that finally flipped it! LOL
stupid piloting caused the flip,,,wind woulda had the camera rustling,,,,fucking stupid pilots fuck up more airplanes than anything else.,,,,,and fucking stupid people totally blow it out of context,,,fuckers,,,keep dumbass's out of taildraggers and in nosedraggers,,and let the real pilots (me) fly these kind of airplanes

Good for you, it will make a totally different pilot out of you when you begin to learn what the airplane can and can't do.
