  • SUCH SWEET CACOPHONY!

    MAY SLANEESH, SING THROUGH US!

  • Comment removed

  • Marty Friedman is the BEST....

  • You always knows its Marty because of his unorthadox picking style =P

  • i wish i was borned 20 years before my birhtday...

  • What amazes me is that Jason continues to compose, even though he cannot move even a finger. He has in many ways overcome the limitations of his disease to at least bring us the music that lives in his mind, and that is a monumental achievement.

  • fuck you 24 people honestly..no stupid ass lame jokes just fuck you

  • este video es una joya!! gracias por subirlo

  • mi dos guitarristas favoritas

  • 252525 views

  • Jason Becker is a Bad Ass! Too bad that he got this ALS. Such great musician won't play such solos anymore.

  • Lol you can tell who Marty is by the picking hand.

  • 23 bitches

  • I remember seeing them back in the 80's at the Stone in SF. My buddy got Marty's phone number we ended up taking guitar lessons from him. He had a tiny apartment in SF and I had to take my shoes off when I entered! (I believe his girfriend was Japanese).

  • @chucke1963 assuming that's true, you are a lucky fuck lol

  • I love the way marty friendman holds the pick in his hand. most people ankar their free fingers because they can't really play without them anchored out of habit but Marty friedman doesn't have to.

  • Ah well, I love them both!!!! I personally think that Jason was better at alt.picking and speed , however Marty is a school on his own. And even if Marty isn't THAT fast, I believe his licks are harder to play because they re not exercise-like licks. I am a pretty good guitarist and I always find playing scales and arpeggios at 220bpm easier than playing Marty-like melodies at 180bpm where the fingers have to actually think.....So, for me Marty is a harder-to-copy guitarist overall....

  • @irmasil3 What he said......

  • for those saying Marty is better..... he taught becker how to play... Have you even heard any of the music Becker has written? This is the case of pupil excelling his mentor. Of course, Friedman never really played to this standard afterwards in megadeth etc, so he'll always be underrated by people that havent seen his cacophony stuff. But yeah, he's an amazing writer, but in this case, i'm pretty positive that he was writing with Becker's better playing in mind.

  • @panterahead667 i see you're point, and i almost never say a guitar player is better than another, but discrediting marty for his work is ridiculous, it's a different style of music, but marty's work within that frame was flipping amazing, but he still released solo albums and guest spotted on others' songs ripping shit up

both of these guys are flipping awesome...who cares who's better? which can't be proven

  • They're making a movie!! - Check it out on Facebook - Jason Becker Movie: Perpetual Burn

  • Yes Please do it! I am a old Friend and Student of Atma the Drummer on this!

  • Jason can't even touch Marty. He was just an amateur before he met him. Marty showed him how to improvise and compose or he'd be unheard of.

  • @DreamEclipse dude...

  • @shenkeey Yeah, I don't want to be rude to the guy or anything, but Marty composed all of this and was way better.

  • @DreamEclipse well, i dont know about who composed what, so i cant argue about that. but i do know that becker is kinda better technique wise and is less sloppy. =]

  • @shenkeey Straight from Marty's site, 'I wrote most of our first album (Speed Metal Symphony) so I pretty much arranged where everything went'

Marty is leagues better than Becker. Pure technique wise (playing notes at high speeds, not vibrato or bending), maybe Becker is better - Becker was a formidable player though, that isn't saying much because Marty's technique is godly too. Becker can't even come close in the writing and dynamics aspects though.

  • @DreamEclipse alright, i cant argue with you about the writing, youre probably just right.

i have to say that marty's better too, because making songs is the biggest part of being a musician in my opinion.

though i do admire Becker, because he's still writing songs while being ill

  • @DreamEclipse

I don't care who composed what. Jason had better technique and a different approach to playing. Marty had a different technique and a much different approach to playing. If Marty was sooooo much better than Jason, Marty would be playing those blazing leads. Anyway both are insane guitarists and we are the real winners for being able to listen to this. Jason will never be matched (Period)

  • @D1vid3By0 He was out playing those blazing leads. Go listen to anything off Dragon's Kiss, Forbidden City/Dragon Mistress etc. Half of Jason's licks come from Marty, he says this himself. Marty says it too. Jason was basically a guy with a lot of technical ability, but he had literally little to no improvisational skills or whatnot. That is, until he met Marty and improved exponentially.

The crux of the matter is: The only thing Jason might have been better at was technique.

  • @DreamEclipse That is presupposing quite a bit about Jason, I'm quite sure he had a good bit of creativity before he met Marty. Not to mention after he met Marty he certainly became much better. In any case, while Jason could have destroyed Marty in technicality, they're both in another league as far as creativity is concerned, which is really all that matters.

  • @D1vid3By0 I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU,JASON WILL NEVER BE MATCHED,PERIOD!!!

  • r.i.p. !

  • I think that Marty has become an influential guitarist since he recorded Rust In Peace, that is what made Megadeth so great.

  • dragonforce?

  • @ricochetlaugh 20 years before that shitty band

  • @ricochetlaugh - The difference between this and dragonforce isn't that big. I mean except the fact that Marty Friedman and Jason Becker is two of the greatest guitarists in the world and make awesome music. And Dragonforce basicly had one decent song that got featured on a game, and they can't acctually play for shit live nor make any other good music.

  • two guitar masters here ...

  • It's ridiculously sad what happened to Jason. To be such an amazing player, and to not be able to even hold a guitar again. Fuck.

Jason was always better. As far as I know, he composed most of it.

  • i dont really think so, i one of the guitar mags he says jason was his bigest infulence and he taught he alot.

  • @Anderw12345 Jason was the better guitar player, but marty wrote the majority of the music. Marty had the better phrasing and writing skills, but Jason had the guitar abilities. Which was why Marty also quoted him to be a "freak one of a kind". You can hear and see on alot of early cacophony vids that Jasons phrasing isn't the best when they are improvising. However he learned so much from Marty and you can hear it in his music later on.

  • @Nunez87 Well, I would disagree with you on that. Both guitarists are good composers. Jason can compose very well, as we can listen on Perpetual Burn album. The fast phareses, as well as the slow ones, are very rich in melody.

But of course I agree Jason learned a lot from Marty and improved music writing.

  • temasooo,,, mare xq no hay un video con una buena calidad de sonido de becker T.T

  • Im a massive JB fanboy but why are alot of you bagging on marty hes probly better than all of us here hes a monster player.

  • crazy stuff

  • Marty started using Jacksons right before he joined Megadeth

  • i dont think so, i remember seeing him use a guitar that looked like his old hurricane when he was doing his audition for megadeth. and wasnt his first jackson a kelly?

  • I think Jason was better.

  • i know Jason was better

  • also Jason said that Marty was better then him. and if he couldn' t know Marty he wouldn' t get as half good as he got.

  • theyre both great in their own sense.. they balance out each other.. you cant compare two Gods to one an other

  • Might actually be a Hurricane custom. Hard to tell. Definitely a fan of Marty's phrasing and style. Made the weirdest sounds without a whammy bar. Both fantastic players in their own ways. It's really not fair to really compare them against one another.

  • its a red carvin

  • which guitar does marty play in this clip?

  • a carvin

  • He played Carvin NOt exclusively but almost around this time

  • personally i would say

    becker= better technically

    jason=better phrasing

  • thats great and all...

but its jason becker and marty friedman..

not marty becker and jason becker :/

  • that is a cool answer. :)

  • i think it should be jason becker with a little help from those other guys xD

    jp there good to.......

  • LOL at you!

  • I like Marty, hes GOD especially his work with megadeth n cacophony. But Jason is better i think.

  • jason is defiantly better on the technical side but id prefer martys style myself.

  • marty's right hand is absolutely horrible... ¬¬

  • Help me Play this piece by Youtube Symphony Orchestra.

i've already sent a request from their channel.

  • hey Azetecko u mite like his guitar but wat about the bloody legend himself I LOVE MARTY

  • This video is great.

If you want to see Jasons best stuff here on youtube type in, Jason Becker Communication! It is amazing.

    Support Jason!

  • I love Marty's guitar!

  • It seemed so easy for Jason.

  • yeah i agree shawn lane had an awesome legato technique r.i.p

  • he HAD INSANE picking technique as well

that video when he picks those diminished string skipping licks is draw dropping.

  • PAR DE MONTRUOS

  • cacophony is damn hard to play

but for jason it seems like a childplay

  • Marty, Guthrie, and Buckets rantings and ravings about Shawn Lane had made me curious.

so I had to see for myself and...WOW, they were right... Shawn Lane is inhuman!!!

Oh, and MAB said it, Cooley said it, Gilbert said it(see SHAWN LANE TRIBUTE)

  • these guys are amazing, but i hear neoclassical so much nowdays it makes me want to barf.

  • man.. this is depressing, what a shame.

  • they are both amazing guitar players its just that marty has a whole new style of playing ever since jason got the disease

  • why doesnt marty play like this anymore? i think hes an awesome player but his newer stuff sucks asshole compared to this

  • future addict sucks, and is contradictorious, because i could think that the good players with the time progressing and been better, but with the time, the most not are better, the contrary, like friedman

  • well he was with Megadeth for how long?

when your in band with players that are at a lower level then you,you will start to dwindle

but Marty isnt a shredder never really was

the best thing about Friedman is his music

Future Addict was "meh" but yeah not ever one can release great albums right after another he has to have at least a bad one right? lol

  • Playing with Jason seemed to make Marty better. Marty is a great song writer but his technique isn't really amazing. I've seem him play a lot. But with Jason he always seemed to be better than without.

  • Satriani was Marty's teacher?

  • no....

  • No disrespect to Marty cause I think he's great but Becker shows him up in every video on youtube. Not on purpose, it just shows how incredible Becker was. From a technical standpoint Becker is the best ever

  • No he's not. maybe he was, but right now you can listen to players like Guthrie Govan or Daniele Gottardo that take it to the next level.

  • how do you compare guthrie's style to jason beckers?

  • I'm not comparing styles, i mean technically. Not about music, about TECHNIQUE. And still, Guthrie Govan's music is just great, listen to Erotic Cakes, best instrumental album ever, for me.

  • I'm aware of Guthrie Govan's music.

Sure he's probably the best player now, but nothing Becker couldn't do, then.

  • Dude Guthrie Govan is insane! the song "Ner Ner",that counter point/interlude in the middle gets me every time and then when it mods to this jazzy kinda of piece and slowly builds to a climax.i cant wait for a second album

  • guthrie isnt that great. i mean like. all tho hes such an incredible player, i jus dont see how anyone can feel anything from his music, its so robotic... this stuff is gold tho!!

  • or your ears aren't use to hearing Fusion players and music

  • People forget about Shawn Lane..

  • This.

Shawn lane was fucking god. A fat beautiful fast fingered god.. lol

He also made great music. Check out "gray pianos flying". Prime example of a great song that isn't ruined, but enhanced by the guitar work.

  • People didnt forget about Shawn Lane hes just in a whole totally different class of his own...and thats the problem lol no one can get in that class....yet

if any one is going to buy his cds get them from his website shawnlane. com

you can fine them on eye tunes but they'r illegal and none of the money is going to lane's family he died Broke he hardly had any money is this how we treat great musicians?

  • Guthrie Govan and Allan Holdsworth are in his class :)

  • *coughs* ah yes Guthrie....JUST INSANE MUSICIAN! omg his album is so great i cant stop listening to it!

not a very Big Holdsworth Fan but yeah mad respects to him

=0 so theres about 4 people in his class...Guthrie Govan,Allan Holdsworth...and none other then Brett Garsed

  • How about Todd Duane?

  • Holdsworth is from another Galaxy lol

Paul Gilbert and Al Dimeola have some insane picking runs

Shawn Lane R.I.P was one of the best ever and a super nice guy too

  • Yup, if I had just a 1000th of their talent, I'd be happy :)

  • u do

    just keep practising

u might be as good as them one day

    ;-)

  • I wish :/

  • trust me

i play stuff thats way to hard for me and i usually manage to get it after a few months of playing it

im gonna try no boundries by michael angelo batio

give it a go it works

  • Marty and Becker, both are awesome.. marty has a n unique feeling in the guitar, and jason has an unique teqnique in the guitar..

but..Jason is Marty's teacher.. we all know that...

  • actually Marty was the teacher

when they first met,Jason couldn't improvise very well and his Phrasing wasn't developed yet Marty Really helped him out so did Atma Anur

i see players like this all the time

fantastic skills but they dont have a voice yet this is where a mentor comes in

you can gain so much when you jam with more experienced players

  • i tought jason was the teacher, because in an interview marty said that S:

  • its him being modest.

jason talk about this so many times look it up on his web site not his myspace

Friedman was alot more melodic then Jason and that inspired and influenced him tons.

"I was seventeen. I learned so much from Marty and Atma, the drummer. I was very good, but they opened me wide."-Jason Becker

"If any guitar player, I dont care who you are, wants to get better, just jam with Marty."-Jason Becker

Mike Varney even state that jason grew when he met Marty Friedman

  • Yes.. like Satch and Vai =) now, Jason Becker phrase better than marty =)

  • im not to so sure...thats just an opinion

but i love Jason Becker hes my hero and i want to meet him some day but, ive always enjoyed Marty's Phrases more then Jason's

Marty has that exotic sound that just gets me

  • I like Jason's neoclassical style =)

  • its so meesed up what happened to him i couldnt live with out playing guitar

  • i would say jason was technically better, but no where near reached the song writing skillz of marty. Considering marty wrote just about all the guitar parts for cacophony and tbh altho i respect jason, i'd rather spend a whole day listening to marty play than becker.

  • anyone who like jason should check out my jason becker tribute.. its an original song and going to be on an upcomming album. :)

    love

    fred

  • Jason and Marty were so in tune with each other. It's a shame they didn't get farther than they did with Cacophony...

  • jason becker and marty friedman they are gods of the metal simphonic

  • this is great!!

    this is real speed metal!!

long live to becker and friedman!!

    batio sucks!!!!

  • shame cacophony are no longer able to tour today, good luck to jason B and hope they find a cure, Speed metal symphony was a ground breaking album and showed how fast guitar can be melodic and have feeling.

  • wow, lol nice way to put it.

  • Just precious, we'll have to wait a lot of time before we see another song like this and played by guitarrists like them.

  • yea if we ever do see more like them

  • uh... no hablo espanol?

  • really incredible

  • En mi opinion el mejor duo de guitarrista que ha habido

  • Me no speak english

  • Son incredibles...

  • Eran increibles... o... SON INCREIBLES.

  • Marty es un gran guitarrista, al igual qe Jason en su tiempo, po desgracia Jason esta impacitado para tocar, pero eso no es importante

porqe el amor por la música de ellos siempre estaraa.

  • yo, vanilla,suck balls,comment on the video noy !!!!!!!!

  • bravo

  • both very accomplished musicians no contest here

  • mostro

  • Most of these guys are accomplished pianist which really help understand guitar also a string instrument.

  • thats not even cool man.

  • For heavens sake, cant you people just listen to music without telling who is better and who is worse? Who the fuck cares about your opinion? Go see footbal if you like to talk about whos better and leave art for those that can appreciate it.

  • thank you.after such a long time some one is speaking sense in youtube.

  • the reason being that you can talk as much bull shit as u want on youtube without getting slapped in the face...

But with the way technology is going...

  • be sure of it buddy!

  • Jason Becker was one of the most talented guitarists ever. and i think he is better than marty friedman...... (a little bit)

  • dude your a heartless dick, making fun of a person with ALS. go burn in hell where you belong.

  • personally i prefer friedman...i think that his style and exotic twist that he puts into his music is truely unique...i cant deny that becker is a more skilled guitarist, but his sound and style arent on the same level as marty...either way cacophony is the greatest display of musicianship that will ever be

  • Stellar Guitarist Both of them ! But see where Marty Got his Inspiration from ... Theres a friedman to becker vid on here somewhere. Becker A genius in the full sense !!!

  • This is a true guitar masterpiece. This is guitar at a level that has not been Experienced since becker got ALS. he was a true genius and in my opinion the best guitar player ever his willingness not to give up when he got ALS is an inspiration to everyone.

  • god bless JB for continuing to make awesome music even with the battle against ALS

  • they sure as hell kick the crap out of herman li and sam totman!!!!
