decided to study slide guitar recently-- started with the master Robert Johnson, and was surprised at how little the art has developed since his 1937 recordings Was amazed to see my neighbor Sonny Landreth had actually done exactly that-- he has incorporated some very interesting techniques into the slide guitar --like RJ, he blends standard licks with his slide work, only he advances into killer electric solos --thanks for not sitting down and stroking your guitar like some kind of dog.
There are tons of unheard of super slide guitarists, you just have to keep looking to find them. I give them all credit for trying. As for the more well known: Warren Haynes & Derek Trucks. Oh wow, they kick ass....
@680540 Campbell was awesome! His version of When the Levee Breaks is better than Zepplin's. He was an excellent slide guitarist - especially live. But Sonny is a little more innovative, but Campbell played like he made a deal with the devil and his time was coming. I was playing "Howling Mercy" when the power went out during Katrina - thought my time had come.........
Now my name aint Johnny and it may be a sin BUT !!! i dont think i have to say what im gonna...:) So i will anyways.. Sonny puts the G in GEETAR and he is more versatile than Srv, Jh,Ec ...etc etc etc, Now wait b4 my cyber crusifiction cuz I didnt say Better "YET" ..Btw Check out some Dave Hole << Bad ass slider..
This Mofo is about to make every guitar player wish he were either dead or had another 50 years to figure out how to play like Sonny.Hail to the new undisputed champ.
You Know you got trouble when you go downtown and all the boys in the bar want to buy you rounds!! Your about to have a blues attack! Thanks for posting this one!!

Try to find the acoustic version played on a resonator. It's one of my all-time favourite tracks - not been off my MP3 player for five years.
