I recently was trapped in my car in a 500-year flood of the Snoqualmie River. Pitch black. Sleet. In ice water to mid-chest. Current threatening to roll my car. Battery dead. Unable to kick out the windshield. I wedged myself through the crack of the door I was finally able to open against the water pressure with do-or-die adrenaline. Since, I have been unable to get warm; sleep marred by nightmares; failure of autonomic functions due to hypothermia. Those teenagers did, indeed give their lives.
Matt 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven
Everytime I've watched this, I feel a sense of gratitude that can't be expressed. I will forever be in debt to these great men and woman who paved the way that I might have the truth and legacy of faith.
Yes it was a big deal and if they were your ancestors I am sure you would have a little more respect. You can't brainwash anybody to do what these faithful saints did. Most of us wouldn't have the guts or the faith
Your name says "theTruthNotLies", perhaps you should change it to say "IHateTruth&EmbraceLies", but nomatter what you say you believe, I know you know its true; we love you friend.
What a reminder of terrible difficults they went through. What they had to go through. It makes you feel your own difficults pale in comparison.Thank you for this great and powerful video.
Wow............wow....That was awsome. I may be a male, but this brought me to tears. They did good. Much good. I salute them...as Kaiju Master. Thank you.
Very touching, my family will always be grateful for the pioneers of this church. They lived great and they died great. I know the Churh of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the only true church on earth today. Never regretted my decision to be in it, 26 years ago.
Thank you for posting this video. It touched my heart. I am thankful for the gospel of Jesus Christ, and for those pioneers who have gone before who are an example to me of faithfulness even in the most trying circumstances.
Thank you for that. I look around at all we have today, our freedom to live the gospel, and am so very grateful for what these young men and thousands of other faithful saints did and sacfrificed. Would I have had that same strength and faith? I hope so, but ?? Imagine what an abstract idea coming to Utah was to them back then, but theyhad FAITH!! And look at what we have because of that faith!!!
I agree with Alertafifalwonder, this was the perfect thing for today! I have Mormon pioneers in my family tree and am grateful for the their sacrifice and courage and the efforts by these hereos and all LDS pioneers who struggled to establish a refuge in the desert. We owe much to them.
I couldnt have found out about this video at a better time I just got back from a youth pioneer trek and I was in the martin company as william marsh who died at the Sweetwater River.
These boys sacrificed for those pioneers and all passed away. That courage to help and yet were killed all by that year from freezing to death. President Hinckley surely made this story so meaningful.
Actually...they didn't all die that year. They did die early due to the effects of the water. One of them was my ancestor. Pres. Hinckley even said that they died years later. But that's ok. I just wanted you to know! Great Video!
Greater love hath no man than he that layeth down his life for his friends. The three 18 year old boys:
C Allen Huntington
George W. Grant
David P. Kimball
They are true heroes. They never recovered from the elements of the storm and died years later from the ailments. HEROES!! My ancestors also made the trek in the 1850's. I want to say thank you to them. Happy Pioneer day!!!!
oh thats really kool we just got back from a trek 2 or 3 weeks ago. it was a really great experiance. but the bad part is that i got bit by a tick! icky
I love this story, but most of all, I just love hearing dear, wonderful Pres. Hinckley's voice again. How I miss him! When I say my prayers and am asking Heavenly Father to bless the prophet. I have to stop for just a milisecond and remember it is Pres. Monson now, and not Pres. Hinckley! I love Pres. Monson too, but Pres. Hinckley was the prophet for the majority of the time I've been a member of the church. He is the prophet I "grew up" with, spiritually speaking that is! Thank you lds9999!
Giving your life to rescue someone else is to me the ultimate sacrifice I could give and probably would be one of the most difficult decisions to make. Even though these boys are probably not mentioned in any history text as true heroes, I am sure that in God's eyes they are heroes. Many thousands of people are alive today as descendants of the rescued handcart company because of the act of these few courageous boys.
The handcart company left Iowa City, Iowa on 28 July 1856 and started across the plains to the Salt Lake Valley. Because of a series of unfortunate events, by October, cold weather and snow caught them in the mountains in central Wyoming.

Amazing how you can miss the powerful sacrifice discussed in this video, regardless of whether or not you agree with the theology.

Courage? Or foolhardiness? How stupid to cross the frontier in Winter? Many, many people made this trek, but not with so very many casualties.

Amazing! I am so grateful to be here
in Zion, and I am so grateful that my
journey here was nothing like what
the pioneers went through. And yet,
it is Because of what they went through,
that I am here. I am overwhelmed with
gratitude!
