there's no "legal" age for skydiving. the age of 16 is a number set by the USPA, not by federal law. also, someone under 18 doesn't have to be held by a contract (they can't sign their own skydive waiver), and a parent can't sign a waiver for the child when it's waiving the child's health/life, so the skydive company will be taking a huge risk by allowing someone under 18 to go skydive. it's been done (friend of mine started at 15, but that's because he knew people), but don't bother trying..

@CanineVideos Depends how fast you can fit 200 skydives in from the age of 16. Once your 16 you can legally begin Skydive/training, with consent of course, there are parachutes clubs all over the world that will help you with this, just Google it. But BASE jumping is extremely dangerous. And realistically, your looking at 18. You'll know your ready once you can jump from 12,000ft out of a plane, without thinking about it.

Watching this video, as they go to the top and the other jumpers take their jumps, I started to get nervous because of the height and just the unknown fact of..."Will I make it down alive?" But as soon as the camera man jumps..it's like everything is calm and you're not worried. It's like you know this is the thrill of a lifetime, and you're going to be just fine..Priceless. Can't wait to do something like this one day.

@IlovewhenUhate 200+ skydives before anyone will want to jump with you, some guys only base jump and you can do courses but most guys do il;legal stuff from cranes etc...,after become a qualified skydiver you'll not be able to use your gear and will need a special rig that opens quickly with no reserve, a bigger pilot chute.

Skydiving is great fun, but you'll spend hours and hours waiting around, the films make it look great, but seriously there's tonnes of sitting waiting, tonnes!!!!!!!!.

@theblackcatofpb wouldn't recommend doing that, unless you wanna die. basejumping with no experience is pretty equivalent to committing suicide. go skydiving for at least 2 years, do at least (!) 200 jumps (better 500), then think about base jumping again.

wanna know what will happen if you do a 400ft cliff basejump without any experience? you'll have at least a 180 degrees off heading opening, likely with linetwists, then you'll hit the cliff hard with no control about your canopy, and fall.

@theblackcatofpb skydiving or 2 years and getting 500 jumps before attemting a cliff sounds like a more solid plan. i've logged a 100 skydives so far, and got many friends who basejump. two of them offering a base first jump course as well. So i got a pretty solid insight. Also lost a very good friend base jumping a month ago, which definately postponed any possible base-plans. My current plan is to log at least 300 jumps, and then think about base again, from start to end.

@theblackcatofpb also, once you got your skydiving experience, it's very important to either find a mentor, who teaches you everything he knows, and supports you not to fuck up. If you can't find a mentor, find a good first jump course (don't pick the first one you find blindfolded). The more you know about base jumping, the better your chances are to survive longer. I'm not saying base jumping will kill you, but unfortunately your chances to die early will increase by an unfair amount!
