Death Metal, Grindcore and Doom Metal the Most underrated and greatest genres in all of music ! Just discovered this band today and already want to buy an album from them !
@420pieceofshit You've obviously never played a guitar, or you would know how boring and easy this kind of music is to play. Not that it isn't good, just not the best riff ever, or even close.
@incinoman wow the best riff is the hardest to play? well in that case I can write some truly amazing riffs just alternate between the first fret on the 6th string and the 22nd on the first.
everybody says neurosis is so amazing...it's just noise to me lol and I've never heard anybody talk about them other than comments on THEIR videos, so whatever "post-metal" scene you're talking about...i don't see it
@ApplezKiwi sure it is. I've never met anyone who's ever heard of these guys much less heard of a band who was influenced by them. If i'm really failing hardcore that's fine but prove me wrong, what influence have they had on music?
@muffinsNsausage shall we go through the list. they helped get doom metal going, progressive metal, sludge, the start of tribal influences in metal, brought more ambiance into the sludge/doom side of metal, they pretty much started post-metal, if you want I could list all the bands directly influenced by them instead of entire genres. lets not forget they have their own trademark sound no one can match, plus they've been doing it longer than anyone else and continue to grow and influence others
@ApplezKiwi first of all don't refer to "doom" and "sludge" as entire genres, cuz you're trying to make it sound more important than it really is, it's a sub-genre. also i actually would like you to list bands because this band is really not that famous and you're makin' it sound like they've changed the course of human history.
@muffinsNsausage thats just stupid. doom is no more of a sub genre than death or black metal are, and i dont see why it matters if its a genre or a sub genre, you asked what influence they had on music, so i told you how it is. the fact you are on a minsk video talking about how little neurosis has done is stupid as well since its pretty obvious neurosis affected minsk's style. hell, they probably wouldnt exist without neurosis, or would at least sound drastically different.
@muffinsNsausage and claiming a band is not influential because they aren't famous is what one of the dumbest things ive ever heard. go back to listening to the radio if you need fame and popularity to back your music.
@ApplezKiwi The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish, and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in charity and good will shepards the weak through the valley of darkness; for he is truely his brother's keeper, and the finder of lost children.
@mgm805: Minsk rely heavily on psychedelics, and leave remnants of Nachtmystium in their sound; Neurosis have never been influenced by black metal.
Lyrical themes are less extreme, more personal; Minsk, although not religious, set up some type of Vedic personality.
The drumming wanders, almost always tribal, whereas even mid-era Neurosis didn't use it that extensively. In fact, all Minsk material is wandering, lawless, while Neurosis song structures are more defined.
@quadrupleplay listen to Enemy of the Sun the album that defines Neurosis. Last song is a 20 minute percussion instrumental, tribal drums all the way, every song on the album by the way. And neurosis songs structured? lol. Argue what u want, Neurosis is for this sludge/post metal what Black Sabbath is for metal in general: godfathers/pioneers. Does this mean Neurosis is better? Irrelevant and absurd. I can like colour red more than yellow, but stating that red is better, is just stupid.
@neurotic4ever: I've heard all Neurosis albums since Enemy of the Sun. Cleanse's mood is unnerving, creepy, and animalistic, as if listening to Mayans hunting you; this is the pervasive mood of most Neurosis tribals.
Minsk uses tribal drumming to create an otherworldly element that is not definable as part of any school of thought; it is more cerebral, a Tool-like style.
Which band is better is not part of the argument; the argument is that the two bands are NOT similar, based on FACTS.
What is most intriguing about the band is this unusual, foreign quality. Listening to Minsk is like standing on the border between Russia, China, India and the Middle East: all four of these ancient civilizations seem to exist at the same time in this soundscape - most obvious on With Echoes and Out of a Center. I've never heard anything like it.
@mgm805 Agreed. Everybody is influenced by somebody and Neurosis may be one of the most influential bands in the last 30 years. I love Minsk...but the best parts of Minsk are obviously derived from the greatest band to ever walk the planet...Neurosis. Why is there a "post-metal scene?" Why are people starting to finally talk about Neurosis? Because bands like ISIS and Minsk have stated they are influenced by Neurosis. When you first put on Through Silver In Blood your world changes forever.

''They are named after the capital of Belarus. In fact, regarding the origin of their name, their official biography states: "Drawing its nominal inspiration from a remote Belarussian city nestled deep amidst the in-betweens of the East and the West, a city that has been burned to the ground on several occasions only to be rebuilt like a Phoenix rising from its ashes"
So nice!))))At least anyone in US knows Belarus and Minsk!:D
Nope. The guy you're talking about is Sanford Parker, he's producing the Yakuza album and playing a guest instrument here and there but that's where it ends. Bruce Lamont is the singer/sax-player of Yakuza, I think those guys are pretty good pals since they are producing similiar psychedelic metal-esque stuff, plus they are often touring together (btw., new Yakuza album in summer of 2010~!)
Oh, I getcha. Yeah sorry, I mean, all I know is that they are STRONGLY linked, and my buddy Andrew told me that it's the same sax player. Probably should've looked up on that more before I told WilliamofMunich. And cool shit! Transmutations was AMAZING, and even more so, Samsara. So, this is definitely going on my top 10 most anticipated for 2010!
Haha. Well he might be right caus Lamont is playing a guest sax solo for almost everyone (including Nachtmystium and this one grind band whose name I always forget), I haven't heard all of Minsk's Records but all of them are very versatile so there might be a Lamont-played sax somewhere there...
Minsk create epic compositions of heavy and ethereal sonically challenging music. While other bands may sound similar, the subtle nuances that separate Minsk from the rest of the crowd is what makes them original and definitely worth a listen. On a 1 to 10 scale, Minsk scores a 100 everytime.
@Smurfkiller921 mastodon is the gateway for sludge fans, the genre transcends mastodon by miles, depending on what mix of doom, sludge & post-metal you prefer. technically, i would put high on fire & electric wizard higher on the pedestal. with all respect to mastodon, the last really good thing that came from them was remission and leviathan. fuck crack the skye. leave the creativeness to neurosis, minsk, isis and baroness, i was happy with them just selling albums, not concept albums.
There live performances are captivating to say the very least. I saw them not long ago at a bar in indianapolis, their set comprised of three songs (45 minutes) Redolent and replete with Pink Floyd esc instrumentaion, and of course neurosis and isis overtones. Fucking great man.
