all of my hangers in my closet have to be facing the same way. my husband thinks i'm crazy because i will fix his closet, too. he doesn't care, but it drives me crazy!!
For some unknown reason I spell words in my head all of the time! I don't know WHY I do this I just do! Usually not out loud ....just in my head! LOL So...see you are not alone! Love ya!
No lemonette, you're not the only one. My husband is always locking doors,he always has a pen handy, and he can work in the yard or tinker with car and never get dirty. But a lady that I worked with once could have been a case study for OCD. She was so much fun to know. You should read "Confessions of a failed southern lady" Apparently the southern culture is filled with eccentric people. I bet you would recognize some of the characters that she writes about with people that you know.
I'm not sure if anyone else shares this OCD moment(this is personal)but when I'm using a public toilet, or any toilet for that matter, I always have to count how many floor tiles or wall tiles there are in the bathroom. weird hey? and sometimes, if I'm waiting for something, or standing around doing nothing, if I see a bunch of text, I go thru the alphabet and pick out the letters in the words, and then after I do that, I go back thru the alphabet and count how many there are in each sentence!
I always pat the laundry. As I fold each piece, it gets 3 pats; When I'm cooking and adding eggs or liquids, they have to be broken or poured into the exact middle of the mixture. When putting biscuits or cookies on a cookie sheet, I count them as I place them. When I knock on a door it's always five knocks in succession. Lots of others; just can't think of them all right now.
I do things in even numbers. Shut off light switches twice. Scratch your back in even numbers like 14 times. I used to do it more when I was younger with the light switches. Something I'm kind of growing out of I hope. I thought that I was the only one.
I do the same thing with my bills. They all have to be facing the same way, and in order from smallest to highest ($1's, then $5's, etc). Also, toilet paper and paper towels have to come over the top, not from the bottom...
well as soon as I think of something that is weird that I do I will do a vid response, even though I am behind on your vids so this will not be current but I guess that is ok? I am not saying that I do not do anything weird it is just I think I do things that I do not THINK are weird to me but to other ppl they are! :P
Do you have any weird shoe habits, I mean besides BUYING THEM ALL!:) I used to work with a girl who NEVER let her shoes touch. She kept tissue in her shoe boxes to keep them from touching, and GOD FORBID if YOU accidentally touched one of them. She was FREAKY about it.
I HATE it when my dogs run through the house and make all my throw rugs crooked. Or, when people don't push their chairs in, when they get up from the table. And I never say "Oh My God!", unless I really need Him. My Gramma taught me to say "Oh my stars," instead. :-)
I am weird =(..I have a thing about door and cabinets being open or closed. I cant sleep if my closet door isnt shut and my bathroom door open. My kitchen can be a mess if the cabinet doors are closed.. Weird (I need prayer) lol
I proofread everything!!!! I hate typos and mispellings on signs, newspapers, menus, brochures . . . makes me crazy to see that!!! FYI - I am doing a Bible study and 5 is the number of the grace of God so that hug and pat thing is a nice idiosyncracy to have. Just wondering, do you have a can of mandarin oranges in your cabinet?
If someone is massaging me, and they only do one side..I have to tell them to do the other side so I'm even..or I'm all whacked out lol. I have to have money straight and in order. I stock flowers..and if everything is not even or straight, I fix it so it's perfect. Lil things like that.
No matter where I am, if I see a penny on the ground, I HAVE to stop and pick it up. I once dug a penny out of the hot tar on a busy road in Gettysburg, PA.
I sell on eBay so I'm at the post office anytime 24/7 (they have a kiosk). Every time I'm there, I clean up everyone else's mess like the backs of labels, kiosk receipts, etc., and I also straighten all the free Priority boxes. It's definitely an obsessive habit, and a weird one at that.
it is a running joke in my famly that if you olook in my wallet all the bills are facing the same way and go from the smallest bill to the largest. I also can't stand cowboys hats being put down with the open part facing down or sitting it on a bed!!
I used to count stairs till I moved to a house that was 78 stairs from the street... Can't put my money away till the bills are faced properly! I celebrate whenever the clock has repeating numbers like 3:33, 5:55 or 11:11.. oh and dates too! 7/7/7 rocked for me, even though I missed the NY thang :(
When your left ear burns it means someone is speaking evil of you; if it's the right ear, they are saying GOOD things about you. These all come from my mom, who was Pennsylvania Dutch.
When the first tooth of a child falls out the tooth is carefully placed in a lump of cow dung, and then tossed over the barn roof . It's the only way new, healthy teeth will grow into the vacated spot. Works every time.
Thank you so much for your help Lemonette! I called my husband at work and I was jumping up and down screaming, "I GOT A MESSAGE FROM LEMONETTE!! I GOT A MESSAGE FROM LEMONETTE!!" LOL Just wanted you to know! hehe Your videos are the best!
Had to cut this message in half, sorry! I emailed youtube about the problem, with no response so far. Others may be having the same problem, which may be why you only have one video response so far. Just a thought. I enjoy your videos!
Well, Lemonette, I tried my best to make a video response here, to no avail. I just kept getting an error message. I finally deleted my original response and made a whole new video to send, got the same result. So, I decided to try uploading to my site and viola! It went right through. So, if you're interested in my response, you'll just have to visit on my site, I guess.
You know how after you make coffee in a coffee machine there is that water or condensation that is underneath the top drip area just sitting there? I cannot make new coffee until that is shaken out and dried off with a clean towel. I always feel there may be bacteria in that condesation that sits there after you have finished off the coffee. I have to get rid of it no matter what.
"idiosyncricies" is a good word. I have a wierd obsession with numbers, too. I count things like dots on the ceiling tiles, even though I don't remember.
Do you play cards? My grandpa used to count cards as we played, so I got into that.
Everytime I see a wagon pass by that is pulling a load of hay, I HAVE to make a wish! And then I must make certain that I look away and do NOT look at that hay again! Before I make the wish, I have to say these words: "Stack of hay, stack of hay, make the wish come true that I wish today."
Oh gosh, I dont like to think about this!! lol I won't step on a crack on the sidewalk, nothin to do with my mothers back but just cant do it, and I don't count steps, but I count rhythms, it has to be equal steps...like two to each section of sidewalk...gosh I have more, but that sounds bad enough...lol..Ya'll certainly are not alone...lol
When I am walking with someone, and a pole or some other material thing comes between us as we walk, I always say: Bread and butter." followed by Salt and Pepper.
I cannot stand to have a spot on my face. Even the smallest tiny little pimple will drive me crazy till I can squeeze it. If I see someone with a white head on their face it drives me insane. I want to grab them and pop it. I don't know how people can walk around with one.
My son has quite a few. When with a group of people he makes me walk in the path where the most people walk and we are not allowed to walk on opposite sides of a pole.
He also insists that the volume on the TV must always be on an even number. He has quite a few other OCD things.
Lemonette, I am trying to upload a video response, but keep getting an error message. If it is sending every time I try, I apologize! Hopefully, this will work soon! New to this but haven't had a problem uploading until now. Crossing my fingers!
Loved this video! I count stairs all the time! Its helpful to know when you are carrying a bunch of stuff and can't see the step but its OKAY cause you know how many there are! I worked with a lot of money before too and I used to get annoyed when people handed me bills in a big ball.. I'd straighten it all out infront of them and make to all face the same way!
I once picked up a handful of ones with a paper towel (after the guy took them out of his SHOE), rinsed them in the sink, then stuck them on the wall to dry IN FRONT of the guy before giving him his change. I had customers behind him rolling in the aisles! I never had anybody else offer me moist money from their shoes!
LMAO I can SO relate to this! I always hated to be working on a HOT HUMID Summer day and have women reach into their braziers only to hand over sweaty, soggy bills to me! EEEEEeeekkkkkkkkk..NASTY!
I was going to make a video response but I'm too tired. :p Anyway, your numbers thing reminded me how on a microwave, I don't put like three minutes exactly. I'll hit 321. Or 345 or whatever else. Yeah, I know, my 0 button is getting neglected. ;)
I'm the same way with money..drives me crazy when my husband has all of his bills wadded up in his pocket..I have to unroll, straighten, put in order before I feel comfortable again. I have to have the denomenations in order too. I feel like I'm richer if I have it in backwards order, but forwards order makes me feel so much better.
You don't have to have money to be eccentric! You can be a penniless hermit and be an eccentric. I have to turn my money so the faces are at 9:00. Order ? It's called OCD. And yes, 5 is a good number!
Okay, one other thing I do is change the first letter to someone's name (in my head. Like Zipster=Pipster, Lemonette=Femonette, Nalts=Falts, I try to find one that kinda fits them.
i also count my steps, by threes, though. 1..2..3...1...2...3...etc... ever since i was little. have also been drawing the same doodle since i was little.
I pat 6 times-I luv the numbers on the odometer-I obsess about gas prices and mileage-I count steps-sometimes when I'm walking the dog-weird! I like my money to be going the same way-it's just easier to count-right? And losing car keys--don't get me started:{
It helps me to know things -- like once I was aggravated at having to make my bed everyday, so I counted how long it took (42 seconds) then I didn't mind doing it so much. I count and measure all sorts of things. I'm really glad to know it's normal.
Teachers count the first hundred days of school; my husband used to count his fish in the cooler; some teachers have a countdown to the end of the school year. I am so much more verbal than mathematical that this counting stuff does not appeal to me.
Okay...I throw temper tantrums when I lose my car keys or just about anything, and I'm all too aware how it looks to anyone whom sees me throw them...then I feel guilty. I have impassioned debates with myself in my own head and sometimes I just breakout and start talking to myself:0/ Boy, I really should make a Video! :0)
ok ok ok all of the above and more, but everytime I put something away I pat it once... my father does that too. what does that mean? It does not matter what it is dishes, towels, clothes, anything and I will pat them and I just realized that thanks
I'm with you on the money being the right way round, and it has to be in order in my purse. I also count the stairs....and for some reason when I'm slicing carrots I count as I cut each slice!! It actually annoys me that I do it but I can't seem to stop!! :-)
This is interesting. We all have weirdnesses. When I get out of the car, I have to hold the car keys in my teeth while I get out, then drop them in my purse after I lock the door.
12:34 haunts me, I dont know why. I seem to catch it at leas once a day! I face my bills and stack them lowest to highest. My bank counts highest to lowest and it makes me crazy! Oh what to do?
Oh Lemonette! SOOOOO many of those apply to me. My idiosyncracy that I don't think I've ever mentioned to anyone is that I count tiles. I can be sitting in a friends kitchen, and will count tiles across and then widthwise and multiply it out. (Also in bathrooms, lol.)
And my bath towels have to be trifolded facing the same way as well lol OH and the toilet paper has to be from over the top! If I am at someones house I fix it..ok call me obsessive compulsive but I like it that way.LOL
Lemonette You make me laugh and smile all the time! I can totally relate with you on the money! I have to keep all the bills facing the same way and in order,I used to work in a bank lol also my pet peeve is, I place all of my dishes facing the same way(plates and bowls etc..) and the silverware has to be facing down with forks in one slot ,knives in one slot etc and plastic always on the top tray , makes it easier to put away ...2 parter
If I had a video camera I would definitley post a response because mine is difficult to explain. Here it goes. If anyone ever asks me to choose a number, lets say, between 1 and 10, or 1 and 100. I always feel the urge to say a number with the letter R in it. fouRRRRRR..or.. thiRRRRRty. it's really weird, and then once i choose the number I have to say it over and over in my head emphasizing the RRRRR. weiRRRRRRd Rrrrright?
I think we all have something that makes us think we are crazy in some sort of fashion. I have a lot of the same ones you do, but I don't have that talent with money. 5 taps and 5 stars to you sweetie.
How funny! Our family tends to pat 3 times on the back when hugging! Don't ask me why! Other than that, I don't have any habits. Really. What, you don't believe me?! ;) ♥
I love the odometer too. When it hit 112233 I wanted to stop and take a picture. I told everyone! I have green dishes and yellow dishes. I find myself stacking them, green, yellow, green, yellow. I thought I was crazy until I found that my husband does it too. What a perfect pair!
Now I work for a home health agency in the business office. I used to be business office manager, but last year I stepped down to avoid having a major "I dislike corporate life" stroke. Much happier since!
There's a difference between OCD and obsessive compulsive personality disorder (OCPD). In OCPD you just strongly want things a certain way,(often perfectionistic or neat but not necessarily). OCD is characterized by constant obsessive thoughts and rituals that become intrusive and make it difficult to function normally. At least that's what they said in my nursing psych classes.
I cannot STAND it when the toilet paper is put on the roll backwards, and I am constantly rearranging things on my table and desktops. Most of the time, I move them around and put them right back where they were!
Being a banker I have many quirks about money. Each week when we get the money shipment from the Fed I make all the tellers face the bills before running them through the counter. Not all our branches do that and it drives me crazy. Too easy to give out the wrong denominations if they aren't facing the same way!
When no one is in my living room the pillows on my couch have to be in a certain place and I cannot stand the coffee table not to be in place, drives me insane. And bed sheets before I go to bed I have to tighten the sheets on the bed. I know I am crazy.
This'll sound crazy, but counting can be a symptom of mercury toxicity. I had all 17 of my "silver" amalgams removed (they were making me SO sick). Turns out they weren't silver at all, but comprised mostly of mercury and the mercury was leaking into my body. I still do count, but not as obsessively as I used too! My new thing is: I refuse to touch doorknobs and those "pens" attached to checkout/credit card machines for signatures at the stores. Go figure!
Yeah, they told us in nursing school that even with everything we'll be doing that the pen at the checkout and doorknobs would probably be the most contaminated objects we would touch. I do touch these items but then use hand sanitizer afterward. lol
Oh lordy...I have too many of these to list! I'll admit I feel like when the digital clock says 11:26, it's lucky....that's my birthday.
You're a terrific lady, Lemonette, and I've only be a subscriber for about a month. A big hug from deep in the heart of Texas....with 5 pats, of course.
You're the only one Lemonette! NOT We've all got a touch of it I'm quite sure. I have to touch and check for my billfold in my back pocket every so often. Even if I know it's there, I still have to touch it. Now can I have my crazy pill? LMAO Love you to Lemonette! -Jim
AH!! The money thing bugs me too! Mine also has to be in order from smallest to biggest. If the ones get stuck behind a 5 or anything higher, it drives me insane!!! My favorite time on my digital clock is 7:11. No idea why. Another weird thing...I have to turn my house plants 1/4 turn, five times a day. Don't really get that one either.
I like to rip sealed envelopes open and have to get a new envelope before mailing something because I can't resist checking the contents. Sometimes I say things several times too.

LOL, I also have the money thing! Things need to be in order! (maybe it's the need to feel in control even though we're not) I have to run my hands in the water and wring them a certain number of times while I'm washing them before I feel that they are clean! I always have to look back when I'm leaving somewhere to make sure I'm not forgetting anything. LOL! We're all freaks!!! :)
Well, my number thing is that everything has to be divisible by 5. I don't know why. Like, my car radio tells you the volume in numbers, and if 20 isn't high enough it can't go to 26, it has to be 25 or 30. It'll drive me crazy if it isn't. And one pet peeve I have... the little line of water that runs down the windshield. That sucker will drive me mad.
Oooh this is a good one! Definitely there are different sides to this issue. Some will say an idiosyncrasy is really just an illogical and compulsive behavior, others will say it's just harmless and makes people interesting. I used to be OCD about locked doors and making sure the stove is turned off, plugs are fully plugged in, and light switches are not stuck halfway on or off. Weird, I know! Now I'm just careful, but no longer OCD.
Oh, I usually keep my money facing the same way but that's my pattern-matching brain, it likes it that way so it's easier to recognize the bills. (And I live in Canada where we have colored money. Whatever, it's true, blame my right lobe.) I also like noting the big number changes on my odometer.
i have to chew on both sides of my mouth the same number of times & it has to be an even number usually divisible by 4. it's weird, but i just do it. i also need my money to be facing the same way.
When I eat a meal by myself, like breakfast, I always have to read something. And if there's nothing good to read, I'll resort to reading the cereal box.
Hehe I have some of the same 'number' related habits as you! And the money orientation thing - has always been one of my pet peeves too! You are not alone :)
867 steps from my front door to my former place of work. I have photos of the odometer turning to a significant number. I will not walk over a penny - I will pick it up and give it away.
definitely idiosyncracies/fascinations, not ocd. There is however, something called OCPD, which has nothing to do with OCD really. It is perfectionism, but the person spends so much time on the details they can never be perfect. I have a family member with it: The house is spotless at all times, but she thinks it is "filthy."
If she has new furniture, she buys covers for it, but then we can't sit on the covers because it will rub against the new upholstery and wear it out. And when you say that is crazy, she says "THEY say you should do that." ugh. be glad for just little fun quirks!
When I microwave something, I always keep the last 2 numbers the same. For instance, if it calls for 30 seconds, I always put 33 seconds, if it calls for 1 minute, I always put 66 seconds. Not sure why. weird.
I always leave the bottom right corner square on a crossword puzzle blank until the end, and fill in that last letter when the rest of the puzzle is finished.
That patting 5 times is awesome..that totally made me chuckle. Yep..I think we all have some pretty odd stuff we do. Oh, and the $25 thing is amazing!
all of my hangers in my closet have to be facing the same way. my husband thinks i'm crazy because i will fix his closet, too. he doesn't care, but it drives me crazy!!

I cannot stand to have a spot on my face. Even the smallest tiny little pimple will drive me crazy till I can squeeze it. If I see someone with a white head on their face it drives me insane. I want to grab them and pop it. I don't know how people can walk around with one.
cynlynj 4 years ago
My son has quite a few. When with a group of people he makes me walk in the path where the most people walk and we are not allowed to walk on opposite sides of a pole.
He also insists that the volume on the TV must always be on an even number. He has quite a few other OCD things.

Loved this video! I count stairs all the time! Its helpful to know when you are carrying a bunch of stuff and can't see the step but its OKAY cause you know how many there are! I worked with a lot of money before too and I used to get annoyed when people handed me bills in a big ball.. I'd straighten it all out infront of them and make to all face the same way!
iluvdblchexs 4 years ago
I once picked up a handful of ones with a paper towel (after the guy took them out of his SHOE), rinsed them in the sink, then stuck them on the wall to dry IN FRONT of the guy before giving him his change. I had customers behind him rolling in the aisles! I never had anybody else offer me moist money from their shoes!

LMAO I can SO relate to this! I always hated to be working on a HOT HUMID Summer day and have women reach into their braziers only to hand over sweaty, soggy bills to me! EEEEEeeekkkkkkkkk..NASTY!
Lizzard1963 4 years ago
I was going to make a video response but I'm too tired. :p Anyway, your numbers thing reminded me how on a microwave, I don't put like three minutes exactly. I'll hit 321. Or 345 or whatever else. Yeah, I know, my 0 button is getting neglected. ;)

Ah. Obesessive compulsive disorder. Yeah, I got that. And, yeah Counting stairs is DEFINATELY a sign of OCD.

That one was pathetic but I'm not sure if I can think of anymore...
Oh! When I walk, I am always going "5, 6, 7, 8, 5, 6, 7, 8...". I sometimes drive myself crazy! xD

So I don't think You're crazy Lemonette. lol

Being a banker I have many quirks about money. Each week when we get the money shipment from the Fed I make all the tellers face the bills before running them through the counter. Not all our branches do that and it drives me crazy. Too easy to give out the wrong denominations if they aren't facing the same way!
ravensky23 4 years ago

Go figure!
MrsMozart 4 years ago
Yeah, they told us in nursing school that even with everything we'll be doing that the pen at the checkout and doorknobs would probably be the most contaminated objects we would touch. I do touch these items but then use hand sanitizer afterward. lol

AH!! The money thing bugs me too! Mine also has to be in order from smallest to biggest. If the ones get stuck behind a 5 or anything higher, it drives me insane!!!

SuckLead 4 years ago

Whatever, it's true, blame my right lobe.) I also like noting the big number changes on my odometer.

definitely idiosyncracies/fascinations, not ocd. There is however, something called OCPD, which has nothing to do with OCD really. It is perfectionism, but the person spends so much time on the details they can never be perfect. I have a family member with it: The house is spotless at all times, but she thinks it is "filthy."
snarkdetriomphe 4 years ago
If she has new furniture, she buys covers for it, but then we can't sit on the covers because it will rub against the new upholstery and wear it out. And when you say that is crazy, she says "THEY say you should do that." ugh. be glad for just little fun quirks!
