First of all, I don't blame Russell for Survivor sucking nowadays. I blame the producers. They edit the show really badly. What's with the horrible music they play at tribal council and during the challenges? And why is Jeff so biased? Hosts are supposed to be impartial. And he hogs the camera too much.
Tell me something though. If Russell got the same amount of airtime as lets say, Jerri, would you respect him as much? A lot of current fans wouldn't.

The previous season had just wrapped up filming a week or so before Heroes Vs Villains started shooting (both took place in Samoa btw). Nobody on the cast had watched Samoa, because the show wasn't even on tv yet when they left to play Heroes Vs Villains, so they had no clue who Russel Hantz was, and what he had done in his season then.

No, this started before Samoa aired. They weren't allowed to ask him questions about who he was. If anything, the show is rigged for him due to that. Russell is NOT a good player. He's all talk. He even admitted that he can't play the game without a handicap last night.
Reason why Russell one of the greatest survivor players in history. Not only sabotage and hid the machete but took the heat off his ally, Parvati which eventually final nail in the coffin for Randy!! FTW!
The tribe is going to be weakened by not having something as fundamental as the machete. Tribal strength is essential at this early point in the game. Russell should have waited until later in the game or at least stuck to stealing things less important to the tribe's physical survival. I hope they figure it out next week and mark Russell down for their next execution. His whole "I'm the boss! I'm the king!" thing has been embarrassingly silly and deluded anyway.
Russell had to steal and hide the machete: 1) to cause conflict in camp 2) to show coach and boston rob that's he running the show and 3) to take heat of his partner in crime, Parvati & focus on voting off Randy instead.
Seriously, why did they leave this out? They created all this false tension suggesting Parvarti might be up for elimination, when the vote wasn't even close. It's the most obvious misleading editing I've seen in a while, if not ever--what happened at TC was completely incongruous with what was shown to us happening in camp.
